Chapter 2: The Dreams of a Hero

Chapter 2: The Dreams of a Hero

Disturbed, he opened his eyes.

"What's happening here? Where am I?"

Fragmented memories floated hazily before his eyes.

"I should be dead," he realized, confused.

Frantically, his gaze darted around, searching for clues about his situation.

What he saw made him scream.

Instead of the usual ground, there was an endless void beneath him.

Stars twinkled indistinctly in the distance.

"So I am dead after all," he whimpered.

He didn't want to die, but that bastard had to react far too seriously.

He just wanted to have some fun with a pretty girl.

Who would have thought that she had a crazy giant as a friend?

After the giant accidentally entered her room and heard the situation, he killed him.

Shaking, he remembered that sight.

A baseball bat rushing towards his head.

He crouched down completely distraught on the ground.

Suddenly, he heard a melodic, enticing female voice behind him.

"You can let go of all your worries, you are now under my care."

As if his fear had never existed, it vanished completely.

He desperately wanted to hear this beautiful voice again.

Its enchanting tone was simply too captivating.

Quickly, he picked himself up to turn towards the voice.

Floating behind him was the most enchanting woman he had ever seen in his life.

Her golden hair cascaded waves over her waist, accentuating her clear blue eyes.

A golden robe draped her seductive body.

Breathless, he stared, unable to tear his gaze away from her.

Her reassuring smile made his heart beat faster and faster.

"I am the Goddess of Light and Purity, but you can call me Larielle."

Her soft words snapped him out of his daze.

Instantly, he lowered himself to one knee. "My name is Eron Friedesheimer, and I am ready to fulfill any of your wishes, even at the cost of my life."

Her mere presence made his heart leap with joy.

Unconsciously, his decision was already made: to dedicate his life to her desires.

In his old world, he lived as an otaku in an industrialized society. He enjoyed reading manga and watching anime.

Since his first isekai experience, he had wished to become the protagonist of such an isekai himself.

"Finally, my chance has come. I can finally be the protagonist."

Of this, he was absolutely sure; he just had to follow the will of the goddess.

He assumed that he would soon receive an order to defeat the Demon King or something similar.

His inadequate joy reached its peak as he waited for the goddess's command.

"Are you ready to execute my teachings, even at the cost of your life?"

The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.

"Yes, of course, my goddess," he replied eagerly.

"Thank you, brave hero. In the world that is particularly dear to me, there is a religious war raging. I ask you to make the teachings of light accessible to the poor unbelieving souls. As bitter and sad as it may be, you will have to compete against other heroes, including heroes from your world. Will you follow me despite this heavy burden, or would you choose a peaceful life in my world?"

"I will destroy your enemies and make your word resound in all mouths," he swore fervently.

"How many other heroes are there?"

"There are a total of eight gods and ten demons. Each god summons three heroes. In addition, five Blessed are chosen. Blessed are like heroes, but they come from Sintora. Sintora is the name of the world you will be sent to. Demons are beings who rank just below the gods. They have far surpassed the realm of demigods, but they are still not true gods. They cannot summon heroes."

"Shit, there are other peoples who want to become the main charackter. I have to kill them as quickly as possible. I'm the only one allowed to be the protagonist with a beautiful harem," he thought, crafting his plan with a cruel smile.

"I think you understand that you are supposed to work hand in hand with the other heroes I have summoned," she spoke, as if she already had an idea of his sinister thoughts.

He could only confirm her command with a nod.

"Don't worry, you can do whatever you want, as long as you spread my teachings."

"Lucky me, at least nothing stands in the way of my dream of having my own harem now." Excitedly, he began to think about how large his harem would become.

From his expression, one could discern his lascivious thoughts even without knowledge of reading faces. However, the goddess seemed uninterested.

"Now that you agree, let's move on to choosing your abilities and affinities. But first, you need some important information."

"Finally, it's time. I can choose my cheat abilities." Restless and full of energy, he constantly shifted his weight from one leg to the other.

"First, you need to understand that there are certain rankings. Let's start with the ranking system of abilities and affinities. The gods often summon otakus because they often have unique ideas. Such ideas set them apart from the people of Sintoria.

That's why we decided to base the ranking of abilities on those found in manga. So, the lowest rank is F-rank and the highest is S-rank.

Additionally, there is a status where you can see your level. It's important that you read the information about the attributes carefully.

You should always be aware that just because an opponent has a lower level, it doesn't necessarily mean they are weaker.

Experience, talent, and understanding of one's abilities are very important."

He attentively followed the goddess's explanations, but internally, his thoughts constantly drifted towards his harem.

Enemies would kneel before his power, more and more girls would join him.

Full of happiness, he indulged in his delusions.

"Eron, are you still here?" Larielle called out to him.

"Forgive me, I just need to process all this information," he stammered.

"Don't worry, that must have been a lot of information to take in at once," she replied sympathetically, "if it's too much, let me know at any time."

He quickly shook his head. "I must follow her, no matter what."

A small part of him still hoped to welcome the goddess into his harem.

"After all, I'm the protagonist, so that's actually quite likely," he fantasized.

"Before you choose your abilities, there's one more thing to understand: the difference between abilities and affinities.

An ability is a direct manifestation of your power. Affinities ensure a faster understanding of abilities. They also enhance your attacks.

When two people execute the same attack, the person with higher affinity has greater power."

"Alright, then I'll just take an S-rank affinity in each element. Can you please show me the abilities now?" he requested cheerfully.

"I can only grant you an S-rank affinity in the element in which I have divinity.

That means only in the Light element.

In other elements, I can only grant A-rank," she replied.

"That's okay, then I'll take A-rank in the others," he interrupted her speech.

"That's not possible either," she replied, slightly annoyed.

Suddenly, a matte blue inscription appeared in the air before Eron:

F-rank: 1P

E-rank: 2P

D-rank: 4P

C-rank: 7P

B-rank: 11P

A-rank: 15P

S-rank: 25P

Available points: 80P

"Ah, so that's how it works. It would have been too good to be true," he sighed.

"What do I want to fight as? The choice is just like in a video game where I have to commit to a class.

So, I need to think very carefully about this."

With a serious expression, he began weighing several possibilities. He didn't like pain at all, so he decided to play as a ranged fighter.

"Can you give me only S-rank abilities from the Light element?" he cautiously inquired.

With a nod, she confirmed his assumption.

"Then, could you please show me the S-rank abilities?" he asked.

A second list appeared before him, this time with 20 different abilities.

As he began to read through the abilities, his eyes widened. There were so many good ones.

Slowly, an interesting idea took shape in his mind.

1. Blessing of Light

-- consumes 50% of the user's mana.

-- heals any wounds of the user as long as they live.

2. Endless Regeneration

-- No mana consumption

-- heals 1% of physical wounds per second.

3. Lifesaving Sunlight

-- No mana

-- three times per day

-- fully heals the user when their life is in danger due to a wound or poison.

-- exception = death

"I'd love to have all three, but unfortunately, I have to choose," he thought bitterly.

After much consideration, he chose the Blessing of Light as it best suited his preferences.

He now had only 30 points left.

Excitedly, he informed the goddess of his first two choices: an S-rank affinity in the Light element and the S-rank ability.

"It's so much fun, just like in video games, it's the most interesting thing to choose your playstyle."

Next, he demanded access to all A-rank abilities of the Necromancer type.

The goddess's face wrinkled in irritation. She abhorred the Dark element. In her opinion, light and darkness simply weren't meant for each other.

Before she could explain anything, Eron began to reveal the reason for his choice. "Imagine a Necromancer surrounded by an army of undead, how would you best defeat him? You'd eliminate the Necromancer. But what if the Necromancer himself possesses an ability that makes him so powerful that you have to kill him with one blow? If I now increase my defense significantly, I'll be almost unbeatable. To top it all off, I just need a few pretty companions who are good in close combat."

Eron's expression dripped with pride as his thoughts drifted back to his harem.

"A truly strange idea, but if executed well, the opponent must be significantly stronger than you, or a trained assassin," the goddess smiled at him radiantly.

He couldn't stand it anymore; he just had to ask, "Do you have a boyfriend?" he blurted out, inexperienced.

With a sweet smile, she replied, "No, I don't, but to win my favor, one would have to make a great effort to spread my teachings."

"Soon your faith will be the only one in Sintora," he boasted grandiosely.

Satisfied, she proposed the ability "Death's Ban" to him. She considered this ability to be the strongest A-rank Necromancy ability.

After carefully reading the contents, Eron accepted her choice without hesitation.

Death's Ban:

-- depends on the number and strength of the undead.

-- Undead possess 50% of their original abilities and strength.

As long as there is sufficient mana, the undead are immortal.

Finally, he decided on an A-rank affinity in Darkness.

Excitedly, he asked what would happen next. According to her explanation, there would be a summoning ritual performed by some priests shortly.

A hint of fear suddenly flashed across Larielle's face. Her gaze was fixed on a point far away.

"The Renegade has actually summoned someone," she whispered. Her voice was dripping with disgust and hatred, yet despite being a goddess, her voice trembled slightly.

A few fractions of a moment later, she composed herself again.

A glowing blue pentagram formed around Eron. "Good luck," she wished him, then he disappeared.
