Chapter 2 - Friendly Fire!

The Dare Devil.

Ascend from the Lancer class, the Dragoon class proven their mettle as the most annoying weapon on a siege. Armed with long pike, heavy armor from head to toe, and have the highest stamina from all class made them mostly irritable. Their distinct battle skills are notoriously well known in the battlefield. The [Jump] skills. It’s a symbol that net them as daredevils. Who in the right mind letting themself free falling and landing in the middle of spikes? Not to mention those who dare on the receiving end of this skill.

The Almanak – Ledge the Librarian

“Mages!! Put the barrier on! Our position is not in a good position as this area is at risk of those daredevil Dragoons!” yelled Lonstrom as he walks through his man while looking out the battlefield.

The lead division of the siege, commander Lonstrom. He has been chosen by those political hogs to do this dirty job. A big brute from the house of Long, one of those nobles in the capital. I really don’t understand, why they pick this brute as the leader of this siege. Aside from his big voice and position, I don’t think he ever gives any damn about this siege other than succeed. Seriously, over those war meeting happened weeks ago, all I see is him and his whore drinking around and consuming our precious ration while we the magician should be looking for a game from the woods. It’s not that we can’t eat monsters meat, but owlbear meat tastes worse than rocks. That’s what happened to us the palace magician. I won’t dare to wonder how those soldiers get treated.

As this war continues, all I can see is a suicide mission was ordered to us. While they are enjoying the sweet safe walls in the capital, those pig heads are only thinking about how to eliminate us without dirtying their hands, not to mention how to steal the spotlight of our achievement. Oh well, *sigh* this tedious job of sieging the Nulms is going to be ugly.

“Selene!!” as Lonstrom searches for me, “Selene!!!! I want you to give your best shot right now!”

“Ugh…, yeah commander.” The hangover is banging my head. And now this big dog is barking over me. The hell with this dumb man. Charging forward was his grand idea. Due to the first wall is so thick and hard to penetrate, the army has been 2 weeks on stand by and skirmishing the area only to die in vain, punctured by tons of arrows and bolts which surprisingly made by the rocks, mud, and stone. So he asks for assistance. Surely we answer him by pulling the grand magic ‘Grand-quake’. I don’t know why he is so mad at us. It’s just happened that the magic activated right when they move half of the army upfront just to observe and act as a distraction for the enemy. And now on the third day of this siege, he starts trashing on us, the mages, only because of the achievement we have made. The result of that ‘Grand-quake’ collapsing the first wall and felling down all those thick rubble on top of the earth. Of course, that includes those who stay too near the wall.

“So, what do you want now?” I try to properly stand up while keeping my ‘Barrier’ magic which encases this whole platoon safe from the raining arrow. Prop up myself with a pike I speak to him, “Surely you remember that we need one week to redo that grand magic.”

“Yes, and I still remember what the cost of that damn magic you gave to me!!” He fumes, red eyes almost looks like a dragon glaring over me. “haaaa” Logran sighted. “Please lend us your strength great sorcerer, as you can see those daredevils are going to fall over us”

Surprisingly he is gotten meeker. Well, who don’t? After half of twenty thousand men are buried caused by that grand magic and who instruct them to stay too close with that walls anyway *chuckle*. But I think what he says now it’s true. As I saw those light flickering on the sky, my sense [Clairvoyance] told me that there will be fatal fall coming right to us. “hmm, surely this one has a homing sense or some kind of detection on” I mumble.

“Commander, I understand that you were trying to protect your men those free-fall berserkers….” My words trail as I set my sight around the area as some of those Dragoons already wreaking havoc around the army formation. “But what I suggest is we fall back as soon as possible. The one who is coming is quite something to handle.” My sense told me that the soil on my feet is quite damp due to some rain a day after the grand magic. Well, this might be good.

“So, listen to me carefully. Remove all your heavy armor and everything heavy and fall back from here.” I continue as my [Clairvoyance] and [Land-sense] passive gave the feeling of the future and what I have now. Indeed this is a unique combination of skills. “Let me play with this one.”

Logran can only nod as his body starts to feel sluggish and all gradually became heavier. “Troops, fall back!! Leave everything that slows you down. Whomever late will meet their own demise.” He yelled his last order, before running away as his eyes picking the glimmering light gets bigger on top of his head.

As they start to scramble, I move the surrounding mana to fill up my core. Great sense and nature magic are what made us the sorcerer of Sthraum as a respected class in the palace. And myself as Geomancer are one of those who can do magic and hand in hand fight against those berserkers who dare to fall on land. A second pass and my core start to get full. With the eery cry coming from [Clairvoyance] skill, I direct the mana flow according to the natural soil sensed through my bare feet. The chant felt rushed, even though this isn't prerequisite by the book but it really fast forwards the time needed for the spell to take effect. Mumbling softly, I start the chant my voice starts to rise.

“The land is my strength" - I felt the mana start seeping through the land below me.

"The sky is the witness" - Ugh, the ringing caused by [Clairvoyance] is starting to annoy me.

."Let nature heeds my call!!" - in reflex, my voice gets louder.

Stomping my feet by reflex then I yell, "‘QUAGMIRE’”
