Someone was shaking me, I hid behind my blankets so he wouldn't bother me. This only helped to infuriate my aggressor who started getting more violent.

 "Come on I know you are awake" The little shit said.

 I got up from bed to face him, he was glaring at me with hate in his eyes but since he was a head shorter than me it was complicated to feel threatened by him. My roommate, Theo, was light skinned kinda pale, he was really into academics and tried to dress like a scholar with his blue robes and, I kid you not, wizard hat.

 To put things into context we weren't actually roommates, I was supposed to be his 'familiar', a bonded beast who would boost the magical power of a magician and in exchange would gain strength equal to the magician's 'raw power'.  The thing is he fucked up and ended up summoning me and he convinced himself I was some kind of rare beast who could transform into a human trying to mess with him (apparently shapeshifters actually exist). 

 3 months had gone by since I was summoned...

 He hesitated for a while before mustering his courage "Today we will form the bond and you will finally start acting as my familiar"

 "Look Theo I say this to you every day, I don't know how to" I was  getting tired of our little morning routine "Stop waking me up and let me rest you know what they say 'a familiar won't work properly without food, wine and regular 10 hours nap' so you know... let me rest and maybe tomorrow we will form a pact"

 "You say that every day..." I hated seeing his sad face, so I closed my eyes once more which seemed to make him quite mad "Stop ignoring me! Get up and get dressed, class is starting soon. A magician can't be seen without his familiar"

 The magical academy of Arat was sort of a fantasy world Ivy league university.  Built in the center of the city of Arat the university looked like a giant fort mixed with a temple, it even had a "barrack" for the students where I was staying with Theo (really it was just a college dorm).

 Imposing walls of polished stone seemed to project an image of strength and power, on the inside you had a courtyard surrounded with various classrooms. In the center you had a tall marble tower whose peak surpassed the wall, the idea was that in case of an invasion the most powerful mages would be able to shoot from up there.

 When I commented that if you knew where the leaders where you could easily shoot them down Theo just laughed at me saying that if wizards were that easy to kill then the crown wouldn't spend so much money training them.

 The classroom was shaped like an auditorium and was quite utilitarian in design.

 "I thought you said class was starting soon..." Theo didn't quite like the angry look I gave him "This room is empty, what did you wake me up for?"

 "Oh come on Zack without putting in some effort I'll never get to be a great magician" He gave a deep sigh and slumped his shoulders "You will see today that I am actually quite a capable magician and once you recognize my worth you will surely want to make a pact with me!"

 It seems this is gonna be a long day so I made myself comfortable on one of the seats and fell asleep.
