June 5, New World 1875

—Erin

For anyone who may read this, this is dedicated to those who lost our freedom, Dedicated to the Knights of Light. For we were not Knights, but pawns to be used. This is dedicated to my sister, who was killed in the experiments and took her life in the end. This is dedicated to freedom.

The TV plays in the background… “The year is now N.W. 1875,” he spoke in a highly charismatic announcer voice, “but have you ever wondered why it is titled New World?...” the phone rings with a repetitive chime. My parents had always had a particular taste for old-world items. Their old home phone was a notable exception. I rolled my eyes as I sent the phone to voicemail and focussed back on what I was watching. “... was from after Gor was crucified on the cross for our sins, sacrificing himself for us. So why, then, did we start a new period? Well, that is simple, the Old World was full of ecocentric people who thought only of the consequences of pollution on nature, deciding that we should instead stop furthering the human race for such ludicrous ideas.

As you can see today, what they were trying to protect was foolhardy, and our lives are all the better because we ignored them. Through the development of science, we as a race have united all the countries, preceding cultures, religions, and other ridiculous beliefs and differences to join as one government and go headlong into the future. What they had been trying to protect we now have more; they wanted to protect nature, animals, and the ecosystem. We have now been able to recreate all of those through science through technology. We left culture behind because it separated us as a race and made it. Hence, we fought one another in petty differences. And we worshiped things like God because he was able to create life, but why worship something just because it can make life when we can now create life?”

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

When the phone rang a second time, the same number got slightly upset that the scam callers were bushing so hard that day. If only I had picked it up, if only my sister would have picked it up, then maybe everything would have turned out differently.

Focussing back on the TV once again, becoming engrossed in the show I was watching, I let the phone calls float to the back of my head. “So now you see, we have restarted the calendar to erase our past mistakes, hopefully permanently eliminating cultural differences, religion, god, and many more foolish mind devices. But yes, that wasn't enough of a reason. In 107835, a groundbreaking discovery was made that allowed for terraforming. It used special eco-grade nanites that can completely change the shape and even composition of a planet. At first, we thought that we could use it to colonize Mars, but after that failed, and we ended up destroying half the planet, turning it into a barren rock resembling a moon; we found that the problem is that Earth is one of a kind. Using these eco-grade nanites, humans had terraformed Earth, or as we call it now, Tera, allowing us to get to the planet's core where we then built up and out, slowly excavating one wedge of the planet at a time, till we had created our owl planet, made out of steel landscapes and artificial greenery.”

I turned off the TV with a disgruntled press of a button and got up. Entering the kitchen, I started making a snack when the doorbell rang, alerting me that someone was at the front door. Stopping everything I was doing, I walked to the front door expecting to see my parents on the other side. Seeing two strangers in black tuxedos, I opened the door, and they began to speak;

“Hi, we are here from the state childcare center, as I believe you are Tom and Rita's kind, yes? We are here to take you to a state childcare center.”

Looking at them incredulously, I became confused and asked, “why are you here?”

“Well, as you already know from the phone call, I assume your parents have died a tragic death in a car accident. With nowhere for you to go and no one wanting you to live with them, you will be in state care for the time being.”
