So, this is it huh?
No earthquakes,
No nuclear fallout,
No hordes of the damned.
The end of mankind’s reign came without a warning.
Well at least we got the fire part right….
Adrian chuckled mirthlessly.
In actuality, it was beautifully ironic.
The species that prided itself on planning for the future, stomped out of existence by a threat it didn’t predict.
To think that before ten minutes ago his greatest threat was the psychology paper that he ignored all month.
His greatest foe was procrastination itself.
What was the report even on again?
The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.
Something about mental disorders and the brain? Or was it mental trauma? Maybe it was on mental development?
Well, there was no use in caring anymore.
Adrian stared out his window
Besides…
He had more on his plate at the moment. Ever since its signature was first picked up by Earth’s satellites, the force of impending doom, known formally as kr-422, had been approaching the planet at supernatural speeds.
Pictures of the flaming mass in the sky have been circulating on social media for the last few hours, but being the night-owl he was, Adrian didn’t wake up in time to catch the initial uproar.
It was only after he’d woken up and turned on the news that he had learned of the catastrophe.
The planet sized asteroid had an E.T.A of approximately 30 minutes, not even enough time to try and scrounge around for survival gear. It didn’t matter which part of the world you lived in, an impact of this proportion wouldn’t even leave a shadow, much less a corpse.
S***
He needed more time
But what could I even do?
He wasn’t rich.
He definitely didn’t have the money to buy his way into any underground bunkers.
Those were reserved for the Crème de la crème, high tier government officials and the elusive 0.001%
Moreover, even if he did miraculously survive this disaster, he wasn’t even proficient enough in survival techniques to last more than a few days on a ravaged planet.
But that’s if there even WAS a planet left to survive on…
In all honesty, Adrian would hardly describe himself as ‘proficient’ in anything; he was average at best.
He never joined any clubs, writing them off as a waste of his free time.
He never played sports either, blaming it on his disinclination for physical labor.
Why play a sport that you are going to eventually give up on after high school?
If anything, Adrian would describe himself as the type to be proficient in laziness.
“WORK SMARTER, NOT HARDER!” His father had always said.
And he agreed, after all, no one worked smarter than a lazy man tasked with work.
It wasn’t all bad though. When it came to the few things he actually enjoyed, Adrian would work as if he was possessed, even to the point of self-harm.
“UNSTOPPABLE WILLPOWER!” he called it
Adrian laughed mirthlessly once more while staring out his window.
Well I bet my willpower looks really f***ing stoppable to that massive f***ing asteroid …
…
S***
He really wished he had more time.
