Every story has its start and everyone always has their own side to that story.

This is mine. The world is recovering from a stage of chaos, a war that raged over the Earth. Destroying cities by the thousands and lives by the millions. A war between humans-the mundane-and Extramundanes-the supernaturals- I am not human. But, it was not always this way. Oh and, my name is Valentine.

I stood in front of the mirror applying a lip gloss slowly to my lips, trying my best not to make a mistake but make my lips look full. I don't wear makeup but I was perfectly fine with perfume and lipsticks of pretty much any sort.

Today was my last day as a mundane. I wouldn't know this though. I wish I did at the time.

My brother Hunter yells out from the kitchen at me, "Jeez Val hurry up! We will grab dinner on the way out okay! I may not have a date but I am not gonna let you be the last one at the party!" I laughed, pressed my lips together and flattened my clothing, turning side to side.

"Hey. You look beautiful don't worry. Lets go" Hunter smiled, both hands on the side of the bathrooms door frame as he leaned his head in to comment. I didn't believe I was beautiful. I never did when he or anyone else said so. I was pale and my red hair contrasted this dramatically. 

We did grab dinner on the way out. Just some fast food, a burger and fries, a nestle ice tea for him and a coke for me. He drove, obviously relaxed but with this serious look in his eyes like he was deeply thinking. I guess I didn't really think much else of it at the time. Hunters hair was a natural blonde, short cut and trimmed with edges like those you only see in movies or animes. Made me jealous. He was averagely weighed, and taller than me but not too tall. His eyes were this crystal blue, that also made me jealous as mine were a bright emerald green, also contrasting my always pale face.

Everyone I knew told me the contrasting was what made me beautiful. But I would have preferred blue or brown eyes if I was to be honest. Hunter once told me, "You can't hate everything about yourself when so many others love those things about yourself" and an old friend of mine said to me "a butterfly cannot see its own wings so it will never know its own beauty" 

I miss that friend, I wonder if we will ever meet. 

I must have been zoned out and stare out the window for a very long time because that dulling color from the sun setting was gone and replaced with a dark black, speckled filled sky. Hunter spoke again for the 5th time I am assuming this because the tone of his voice sounded half amused half annoyed. 

"Val?! Uh hello Valentine?! You alive? Earth to Val?!" I burst out laughing and he gave me this most concerned look, making me feel embarrassed just a bit. 

"Oh. Uh sorry. Was caught up in my own thoughts. Whats up?" I replied, smiling. His chuckle filled the car when I came to realize we weren't moving anymore. 

"We got here like 5 minutes ago. We've been still for quite some time. I was a bit scared you got abducted or something like that" we both laugh and I shake my head, undoing my seatbelt. 

"I'm sorry hah... Uh well I guess we gotta get out now" He turns off the vehicle now, telling me to wait as he opens his door jumps out and walks over to "help" me out but when he walks over to my door he makes a face at me and keeps walking. I laugh and flip him off, getting out myself, flattening my velvet red dress down.

The school grounds were fairly full but not so much that it made me uncomfortable. I felt out of place as almost everyone had someone else on their arm or someone beside them, their date. I was here with Hunter but he was not my date he was my best friend and practically my brother. He didn't have a date either but he, "doesn't give a shit" I laugh to myself silently as he nods at me ensuring we are both alright and we continue walking to the Academy into its classes and to the gym which they had cleared out, filled with balloons.
