My veins started to sizzle as I felt my body skyrocket in temperature. My head felt like it was just hit by a truck and my body grew red in color.
I looked up into the sky and felt my consciousness sizzle into the blackest of nights. Into the ever-lasting abyss of nothingness.
As I was about to sink into my final breath I jolted up from my sleep, drenched in the cool liquid of my sweat
“I can never get used to that dream”
I woke to another day.
Another day of the useless throwaway life I have.
It was 7 am, and mom doesn’t wake up till 12. She’s always so tired, so sick.
But that doesn’t matter. I grabbed my shirt and started marching to the bathroom. If I wasn’t going to take care of my dirty room I should at least take care of my hygiene.
Washing my face, I looked into the bathroom mirror to find my calendar in the reflection.
March 22, 1034 AV
I looked at my body as it strewn from the ragged clothes I wore. Cuts, bruises, gashes, you name it I was a jack of all trade.
Where were they from?
Well that’s a secret.
Walking downstairs I instinctively started to clean the place. Though most of it smelled like cannabis and weed, the living room still held fond memories that kept me from neglecting its cleanliness.
Finishing my work I let my body encase itself between the luscious cushions of red velvety cotton. I stared at the white ceiling as if stuck in the same moment in time.
I sunk deeper into the couch until my breath became light and my eyelids heavy.
[d.. K..d kk..s.kds…. D…e..s…troy]
I jolted up from my 30 minute nap to the whispers that haunted my ears
“What the f-”
“Arthuuuuuur”
I looked at the stairs running through the house, mom finally seemed to wake. Her white hair was ragged, while her clothes seemed to be quite pristine.
I locked my gaze with hers, clenching my teeth at the site of her arrival
“Yes mom”
“Have you made breakfast yet?”
I thought she would wake up late today. She always does.
“No I haven’t”
“But I will get right to it”
I gazed down, my head sinking staring on the floor as I made my way to the kitchen.
“What did I say about completing your duties?”
I stopped in my tracks to her voice reverberating inside the room. My body started to shiver. My sweat turned cold.
“To complete them on time, without delay, and to do them early”
“Then why were you late today”
“Always late”
“Always the problem”
“Always trying to play the victim”
She walked to one side of the room picking up a wooden stick.
Lifting my head with its tip I gazed into her crazed eyes once again begging to myself to do something. Anything.
“It was always your fault”
“mom…”
“Please don’t do this”
“IT IS YOUR FAULT HE LEFT”
BAM
She smacked my face, leaving a deep red gash. This is the first time she ever hit my face. I don’t know why.
If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
Maybe it's because I remind her of dad so much.
But that's how I live in this wretched world.
BAM
She hit me again.
Bam
And again.
Bam
And again.
My world started to blur with red. My body was hindered by the blows.
I couldn’t stand it.
Why must I live like this? Why must I cherish her when she hates me just as much as I love her?
Bam
I look at her once more. Her white eyes glistened with tears.
So with every ounce of strength I could muster in this decrepit body I hugged her.
Falling to the floor, she cried her eyes out.
My mom isn’t a bad person.
She…
She’s just unstable that’s all.
As my world faded I looked around to see white.
Strange, isn’t this just like my dream?
[Destoy.. Destroy… DESTROY]
The whisper started to become synonymous with a scream.
My head exploded with the same line. As if a force was trying to control my very being.
As I was looking around for a solution my chest started to glow with color. My eyes turned into a light red. My body was heating up.
My legs became the same color as my blood and my chest tinted with an orangish hue. It was as if I was turning into a bomb.
With one more whisper, my mind came to a stop.
And suddenly. It all went blank.

“Hey Jack, so what’s new with ya”
“Oh you know, same old same old”
It was one fine day indeed.
“I could go for a donut right now, but alas my shift doesn’t end til noon. Might I ask a fine man if he can cover for me?”
Jack looked at my face with a smile. He took out a plastic bag from his pocket and handed it to me.
A crisp donut. Large in diameter, crisp with touch, and fine in smell.
“I think I know what you’re looking for”
Wait…
How did he keep a whole donut in his pocket without it getting soggy.
“Hey jack”
“Ya”
“How did you keep that don-”
BOOOOM
With a large blast, the whole area shook with a tectonic grace. The trees turned backward and the pedestrians screamed. Even in this rural area, the town was stricken with fear.
Jack and I looked at each other with wide eyes.
I brought my walkie-talkie close to my mouth as I started to contact HQ.
“Dispatch to HQ 201, we have a potential void-born in Urban Sector Umbria, There seems to be an explosion. The estimated strength is Revanent.
“HQ to Captain, we have sent 2 Helots and a Freedman to your area. Arrival in 5 minutes.”
As Jack and I started running to the scene we started preparing for the worst and took out our ARs. Thankfully the explosion wasn’t too far.
“Why couldn’t these damn guns be empowered like their weapons?”
I knew why Jack, Us normal humans couldn’t dream of taking down a revenant class without the power of them.
“Powers are specialized Jack. Evcen a rune smith isn’t capable of upgrading a gun to that strength.”
“Ya well we need it, for the sake of officers like us.”
With a sigh, we both finally arrived at the scene.
“You’re late officers”
We both took our hats off at the sight of the person in front of us, bowing quickly to show respect.
“General Thadeus! We are honored to have your presence among us.”
