The island of Hamibau would soon be destroyed by the virtual world. But, we're getting ahead of ourselves here. The date is October 23rd, 2019 in the town of Malihi on Hamibau island. Emi Gorou is getting ready for school. As she goes downstairs for breakfast, Emi hears her mom.

"Emi! C'mere! We have a surprise for you!"

Emi rushes downstairs to see what it is. She's greeted with a stack of her favorite pumpkin cinnamon french toast, and honey syrup.

"Happy 16th birthday E!!"

Emi's parents yell. Emi was so excited to eat them! Yet, she was running late.

"Thank you guys! But, I'm running late for school! I'll eat them later! Bye."

Emi runs outside and slams into her best friend Isamu Jirou.

"Whoa there girly," Isamu says.

Emi falls back.

"Yeah, sorry Isamu but, we're going to be late if we don't leave now," Emi exclaims.

They head off to school the same way they do everyday. Down 3 streets, up 2 streets, left, right, left, then up 2 more streets, then Akimi Go High School. They walk into school, change into their inside shoes and head to their homeroom. Emi sits down in her seat and Isamu, next to her.

"Do you think Mr. Hoster would let us move classes? He makes homeroom boring! I hear room 3-6 got to eat breakfast in class the oth-"

Isamu was cut off when Mr. Hoster walked in. Everybody stood up, bowed and sat back down.

"I think Mr. Jirou would like to say something?" Mr. Hoster said.

Isamu buried his face into his desk as everybody laughed at him. This happened almost everyday. Emi started to laugh, then she fell out of her seat, blacked out.

Images of clocks, and 1's and 0's pass through her head. She see's the rest of the world. The one that used to be covered in grass, is now covered in those 1's and 0's. It's a virtual world. One that no longer exists. She hears a voice tell her to not say anything to anybody. Then she wakes up.

Isamu is standing over Emi, shaking. Emi slowly sits up and rubs her head.

Isamu says, "Emi! Are you okay? You just fell right over."

"I just had a dream about a virtual world..our world." Emi says.

"Oh, that's crazy!" The class exclaims.

An announcement comes on: "Everybody listen," It's principal Manakou, "The United States has just went missing. I repeat, The USA is missing within a flood of 1's and 0's."

The whole school went into a panic while Emi's class all glared at her...
