Change

"Damn it!" He shot up from his seat, face reddened with visible veins on his forehead. He walked back and forth countless times before saying, "Some of the best and worst luck you could ever have, girl." Sitting back into his chair, he handed the paper to Lucia.

Looking at it, she was once more in a state of confusion.

The board didn't detect her ice element. Only her lighting element was shown.

Perhaps her ice element was weak since it took a while for it to manifest outside of her, or the board was designed in a way to detect only one element. Regardless, Would she tell him her ice element?

"Affinity 5 lighting element. Girl, your element would make any noble throw their golds just to get you." His voice came out slow after the initial one. "Unfortunately, you have some of the most common and useless class."

"Could you explain, sir?" Lucia inferred, handing out the paper to the other instructor.

"You can call me as Mr. Ron.” He said. ”You see, Lancer-class is some of the most undeveloped class there is, that means you are going to be having limited skills and styles of combat. The class will also be the first thing every mage and peasant learn to defend against because it is so common. So not only do you have very little ground to work with, your presence in the battlefield is whimsical at best." He started to frown the more he looked at her. "Now tell me, Have you ever exercised and increased your stamina? What about Your strength?"

"Errr ... I could thrust with a normal spear a few times ..." Her eyes avoided Ron's gaze.

"Hell, You have never lifted a finger on the farm, have you? All zhottos require physical training, it's the only effective way to increase their ki. And don't get me started on trying to win against a beast on its own term." He sighed. “In any case, you have 2 choices. The first would be to train in the lancer class. And the second is to take the general education class. You, unfortunately, need to choose now."

"Wait, could I choose to be a mage instead?" Her hands felt weak, her breathing rhythm broke again. Even she could tell how dire her physical condition was.

"You can’t, girl. It's the school policy, and we’re stepping into dangerous grounds here, I prefer to end it here."

"But, sir-"

"Enough, others are waiting too, would you choose to be a lancer or not?"

"I...I would, sir." Lucia stuttered. Once more, she could feel the dread enveloping her.

"Good!” He signaled one of his staff to continue after writing down the record, Lucia has already left by then. But a staff also left in a rush shortly after. She sat on the bench she found earlier.

What could I even say? Lucia thought. The body is just that weak! The former Lucia did try everything she could and the result? Broke her bloody wrist the last time she practiced her swordsmanship. And now, she will be using it against BEAST! Damn this luck, damn this physical body. And what about the ice element? How can I even prove I have a second element in the first place? I can't even cast a normal spell.

Her monologue went on for a while before she was interrupted by an approaching man, Richard. Apparently, time flowed to mid-noon now, and there was barely anyone on the 2nd halls.

"Lucia! how's the test?" He smiled wide.

"Mr. Richard, Uhm, I'm a Lighting Lancer, affinity 5. it's quite amazing." She smiled, covering up her lie.

Old parents' teaching, she thought.

"Very good, now, about the matter this morning, are you free?"

"Uhh, yes?"

"Good, let's go to my office first." He said before continuing, it seems like he expects her to follow along. And She did, albeit with a mind on cloud nine as she hasn't gotten out of her emotional state yet.

The air was silent, and so were the both of them. Richard didn't bother breaking it, it seems like he doesn't have the slightest care in the world while Lucia was trying to figure out the man before her. At one point, he made her shivered throughout her spine, indicating her instinct is reacting up, or there's something weird about him. Regardless, her effort was fruitless. But, all was not lost, she did see other staff respects him, some slightly lean their head when passing by, and others call out to him first, greeting him in a hurry.

Seems like they respect him to a great deal. Lucia thought.

They eventually arrived in his office located on the third floor. The office has bookshelves on both of its sides, extending until the window, with flower pots here and there to liven up the mood. Richard didn't ask much, only recorded the incident from what Lucia described.

"Now then, Lucia, about your Lancer class." He said, his hands were still, no longer multitasking like last time, eyes staring straight into Lucia, forcing her to do the same.

"Yes, Mr. Richard."

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

"Do you want to have a class change?" He smiled. Lucia, on the other hand, feels like she just got hit by a truck.

"Ex-Excuse me, sir?" She stuttered, not sure what to say in this scenario, nor could she forms any coherent thoughts.

"You heard me." He grinned, after seeing that expression. "Would you like to have a class change?"

"But sir, I-I'm contented in staying this way. Being able to become a mage is i-incredible as it is ... not to mention my infinity."

"Come now, Lucia, it's not a big deal. You see, class change happens all the time. You would be surprised to see how many nobles would resort to changing their class." He said with a casual tone, not pressuring her, not demanding anything from her. "It is nothing but a hassle. Within a few months, they would switch back to their original class because of their little to no progress. At that point, You only need to play catch-up to get back. It wouldn't hurt to try. Besides, you're going to struggle for a long time just to gain a level, a few months ain't gonna be that bad. It would be a big success if you could pull this off."

"Ah, then yes, I'll give it a try." She can feel all the tension release from her body. She knew how pointless it was because of her physical condition and her memories. And just like that, she wonders what the class is really for. "But why go through all of that just to change class if you can change it back?"

"Well, you see, we know it allows you to attune towards your style of magic better. Like a fire sorceror specializing in offensive type, casting a giant shield, a defensive type spell, covering his team. He could do that, but it's a lot slower and takes longer to cast. His chance of failing is also high. This is where the class comes in, it makes us feel like it's natural to cast them, almost like using your hands. Apart from that, we don't know much about why the class exists, how it could align our path, and so on. Anyway, back to the matter at hand, what kind of sorceror would you be? You can be the classic offensive type, an evoker, or be a defensive type mage, an abjuration."

He gazed into her eyes again, and he waited. She didn't speak, even for some time and so, he did what he always does, suggestion. "If you don't mind, I would suggest evoker. An evoker is basically an offensive sorceror, hurling spells after spells against your opponent, your element suits this area best. Imagine being an abjurer, casting lighting to form a dome, protecting yourself from a boulder hurling at your way. Good luck with that." He laughs.

"An evoker sounds great, sir. But, uh, about the board, can it detect multiple elements?" Lucia fidgeted her fingers.

This time, Richard was the one on the receiving end. He was stun, barely anyone knows the rumor of them except the aristocrat, he would be an idiot if he didn't catch her meanings, would she be one of them? He thought.

"Well ... actually, the board can only detect one element. The second element can be discovered when you tried to cast it, or it just happens randomly. They are unofficially class as elementalist. Now Lucia," He sighed, he waited a bit, before continuing again. But this time, his voice was slower than before, and his tone became lighter. "When you were taking the test, did you happen to ... let's say ... felt ... like you were being pulled by ... something? It's different for everyone, we don't know why."

"Yes, sir. It was something along those lines." Lucia could feel her sweat dripping down, hands moistured, her instinct flared, chills spread to her spine, making her shivered. Who would want to see that horrifying place again? She thought. However, she could still maintain her appearance due to sheer determination alone. Old habit again.

"Alright, then Lucia, under no circumstances should you tell this to anyone. You see, When you discover a second element, they would likely be able to use other elements as well, that means your usual fire, water, and earth. These in terms, make the royalty and the aristocrat drools over them. They would have you in their household as soon as possible." He narrowed his eyes, His brows furrowed, his voice wasn't so sweet and casual like last time. "However, what do you think would happen if that elementalist hasn't become a full-fledged mage? They get killed, each of them doesn't want the other to have more elementalists than themselves. And this is one of the reasons why they keep their identities hidden. Now Lucia, never mention to anyone about this, understand? And you have to call me Richard, no more of that." His once serious face died down, replaced by a grinned, the usual friendly face Lucia has seen.

"Yes, Richard." She nodded her head at the same time, she was happy also, her choice wasn't a mistake after all. Meanwhile, Richard was re-written something inside the paper before promptly putting it on the side of the board. It slightly glowed before returning to nothing again.

"Alright then, it's changed, you're an evoker now."

"Thank you, si-Richard."

She began to take her leaves before Richard interjected.

"Oh, one more thing. I recommend you to train the basics of your original class with a sword. It will help with your ki as well."

"I'll practice ... but ... a sword?" she questioned him again, doubting his answer. A lancer's main weapon is a spear, swords are just backup weapons.

"Yes, a sword. You can carry a sword to where ever you want, it is the general back up weapon. A spear, halberd, and all of that jass aren't allowed into the city and town. Sometimes, even a village. You don't want an army suddenly inside your capital after all. Besides, a spear is easily broken when you're fighting against beasts. Unless the entire spear is made out of metal and fully enchanted, which is very expensive, mind you. They also tend to be annoying when carrying around. That said, most sorceror doesn't carry a sword with them, it's to tell the other parties you're confident of your abilities. That said, who knows when it might be useful."

"Ah ... I see." To Lucia, it's foolish to not have a backup weapon. If they're going to fight you anyway, intimidating is useless. "About the swords, do you have any recommendation on the type of sword?"

"Yes, I was waiting for you to get on with that topic. In fact, I know just the type for you." He said with a beaming smile. "It would be a longsword."

"A longsword?" She raised her brows. "Isn't a longsword heavier than a 1 handed sword? I can barely practice an arming sword without breaking my wrist."

"Now, Lucia, your biggest advantage is you're a sorceror. That means distance is key. With an arming sword, the strongest point is that you could have a shield with you. The shield is big, heavy, and you will only use it in a rare situation, you're not a front-liner after all. A long sword is heavier, but you can use both hands to assist, distributing its weight. Plus, you're not gonna hold your ground off while casting spells at the same time."

She nodded her head with her mouth forming a circle. She didn't think much of her current situation because of her past experience. Now, she needs to scrap almost all of it. This needs some time to get used to, she noted.

"In any case, who said it's blasphemy to use a 2 handed sword with 1 hand?" He smirked, making fun of her like she was an ignorant child. "It's slower sure, but not by a large margin. Although you of all would say that, I guess."

"Yes, si- Richard. I'll be leaving now then."

"Uhm!" He nodded his head, gesturing her to leave with his hand.
