12 - The Mysterious Cloaked Girl

Bang! Bang!

Gunshots echoed incessantly.

Although Ernest was inside the car, he could still hear the gunshots, albeit not very clearly.

Was there a fight with monsters nearby? Because this place lacked police and military protection, he guessed those fighting were probably ordinary citizens. There was a possibility that those fighting were awakened individuals. Still, he shook his head because what he heard were gunshots.

It was common knowledge that air rifles were useless against monsters. If awakened individuals were fighting, Ernest should hear the sound of metal clashing if there were any.

‘Should I take a look first?’

He briefly wondered whether he should interfere in someone else’s affairs. If he approached the source of the gunshots, he would automatically become involved. However, he chose the common option: not to interfere randomly.

‘Let it be.’

He ignored the gunshots.

The longer he drove his car, the gunshots he heard became closer, until eventually, he could tell that the gunshots came from one of the buildings nearby.

He wanted to take a detour to avoid passing by that building, but before he could turn, a stray bullet flew towards the car he was driving. He didn’t really see the bullet, but the impact of the shot informed Ernest.

Bang!

Crash!

The front window of Ernest’s car shattered into pieces. The shards of glass scattered haphazardly in the air. Reflexively, Ernest ducked to avoid any glass shards from piercing his face. At the same time, he slammed the steering wheel.

Srrrtttttt!!

The sound of Ernest’s car tyres scraping the asphalt road squealed as Ernest braked forcefully, turning the road black like calligraphy strokes.

As the car came to a halt, Ernest saw a small hole in the passenger seat and sighed. Ernest was relatively lucky because the stray bullet hit the passenger seat, not the driver’s seat.

“Judging by the angle of the shot…”

Ernest’s eyes automatically looked towards where the gunshot came from. Strangely, the direction of the shots came from a few degrees upward. And when he examined it again, it came from an empty building right in front of where his car stopped.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Gunshots continued to be heard right in front of him.

When he wanted to step on the gas pedal, he stopped because he saw something surprising.

He saw that someone was breaking the glass of the building around the 5th floor. Just as the glass broke, fresh air automatically entered the building floor where the person was. The person’s figure became clear to Ernest due to the bright moon in the sky.

The person wore a black cloak and a face covering like a cloth mask.

It wasn’t because of the person’s appearance that made Ernest freeze like a statue; it was because of what the person did next… the person immediately free-fell downwards.

Stolen story; please report.

‘Did that person just free-fall without any safety equipment?’

Ernest let out an ‘O’ in disbelief.

Accompanied by the tinkling of glass shards, the person, wrapped in a black cloak, slowly landed on the ground. Well, not slowly, but as fast as the blink of an eye.

Boom!

Even when the person finished free-falling without any safety equipment, the person could still stand up as if not experiencing any physical injuries.

Only when that person attempted to flee did Ernest realize something was not fine. The staggering way of running clearly showed that the person was injured.

Although the world had experienced magical events, and superhumans had become commonplace, there were actually very few people who dared to show their powers in the middle of the city.

“Don’t let her escape!!”

Several shouts were from inside the building where the person had been earlier.

A few moments later, they revealed their faces to chase after the person. From afar, Ernest only knew that they were armed men wearing only underwear or bare-chested. However, unlike the person who had just free-fallen, they did not dare to free-fall to chase after the person.

“You, shoot!! Some of you, quickly go down and catch her!!”

When given that order, some started shooting from above, and some went down to the lower floors.

A rain of bullets fell from above. Every step the cloaked person took was adorned with sparks from bullets hitting the concrete floor.

It seemed that the cloaked person was lucky enough because no bullets hit vital points. But one bullet did hit the person’s shoulder. Some bullets also managed to graze the person, tearing the cloak she was wearing in several places.

Ernest really wanted to continue watching the scene that resembled an action movie, but he was startled when the cloaked person suddenly came towards his car. All of this happened in a fraction of a second. The person jumped, opened the car door, and easily entered the passenger seat next to him.

Of course, Ernest wasn’t just sitting still. He had already stepped on the gas pedal, and his car had spun to leave the scene. But the person still managed to get in.

What else could he do?

“Hurry, drive!!”

“Hah?”

Above Ernest’s head, a question mark immediately appeared. Hearing the loud and hoarse voice of the person, he then realized that she was a girl.

Ernest’s eyes immediately turned to her body. He hadn’t paid attention before, but behind the torn cloak in several places, it did show signs of white skin and a very slender figure. Even her large breasts stood out when Ernest looked at her up close.

When the cold feeling of a blade ran across his neck, he shook his head and regained consciousness. Without any other choice, Ernest quickly stepped on the gas pedal as fast as he could as per the cloaked girl’s command.

“Where should we go?”

The first instruction given to Ernest was, “Go as far as possible, don’t meet the police or military, and find a safe place.”

“Hey, how am I supposed to know where a safe place is? Moreover, avoiding the police and military when they should be guarding all places?”

“Shut up!! Cough!! Ughh!!”

Although she tried to speak in a cold and dominating tone, Ernest could immediately tell that she was not fine from the coughing and groaning of pain she made.

‘Can I throw this person out of the car and just leave?’

The idea of freeing himself from the hostage situation surfaced, but when he remembered the girl’s ability to jump from the top floor of a building, his hair stood on end a bit.

Although Ernest’s situation was lamentable, a calm smile still appeared. His mind involuntarily imagined that the girl holding him hostage looked like a wild cat seeking protection.

“Uhuk! I can’t believe you can still smile in such a situation. Aren’t you afraid of dying?”

“Hehe. Why should I be afraid of someone who has no intention of killing me?”

Right, even though the cloaked girl put a sharp blade on Ernest’s neck, Ernest didn’t feel any intention to kill her.

The first thing Ernest did after agreeing to work with the girl was to look up the GPS. Second, he took out his old phone from his sling bag.

“What do you want to do?”

“Hm. If you’ll excuse me, can I ask someone for a little help?! Don’t worry. This call will help us.”

“Don’t dare to do anything funny or…”

The cloaked girl warned Ernest not to do anything funny, but after hearing the person Ernest contacted answering his call, strangely, she did not stop Ernest from making the call.
