“Glad you are awake.”
I see my mom sitting down next to me. She has a white dress on and her long blonde hair is sheltered by a giant pink straw hat. Her golden eyes sparkle at me.
“I'm fine mom.”
She turns around and starts scrutinizing through her purse. Her purse is giant, I mean way to big. She only puts little things in there and maybe her wallet. My dad bought her that purse about a year again. My dad is not dead it's not a cliché type of story where, where a kid around my age (16) gets hurt and wakes up in a hospital. Opens his eyes to see visiter, that is his mother or father, and is going through something or reminding you how their spouse is dead. Then they fall asleep again, and wake up the next day with a bunch of hot chicks around him.
My dad is apart of the ECFA, people ask me question like “What goes on in there?” “Is it true they created a dragon?” “Yo, bro hook me up with some exotic animals?” my answer is always “Bye.” I’m not a person that doesn’t talk to people or as no friends. Trust me I have lots friends, but I just have low tolerance when people ask me questions like that. The answer is simple, and I know why to. It’s because I never get to see my dad, and he ignores me when I ask him about it.
“Would you like a mint?”
“Thanks.”
As I open and pop the mint into my mouth I scan the room. It’s your typical doctor's room. White or lightly tinted walls. With a decently sized bed in the left corner. Three chairs, and a window with fancy curtains. Lots of tools that you don’t know, what they're for. A little desk in the right corner with a nice black chair that spins. Some picture(s) on the wall(s) with different nature landscapes. Lastly the doctor’s certificates.
“You sure you're okay?”
“Yes mom I’m fine.”
“I just love you.”
“I love you too.”
“The doctors said you can leave when you feel like you're ready.”
“Isn’t that doctor lazy.”
She giggled, “Maybe.”
“Well I'm going back to sleep.”
“What I just got here.”
“Mom, look outside.”
She gets up and walks to the window and opens it, letting the gently breeze fill the room. It's refreshing and smells nice. It must have rained. I guess the weather forecast was wrong.
“Okay I'll leave, but knowing my son you want this open right?”
“Thank you.”
“Bye.”
“See ya tomorrow mom! I promise I will go back to school!”
“You don’t have to force yourself.”
“It’s okay I’m just fine.”
She turns the light off, and closes the door. The doors inside a hospital all have locks, and the only way to enter is with a code, not a key like most locks. The locks activate when the door is completely shut. I think its kinda of dumb.
I close my eyes and drift into a happy sleep.

“So Maka, how'd the date go with Arima?”
“Thanks to you we're dating.”
“What! How did this happen!”
“We hung out all day after you left.”
“And?”
“We ate lunch, and he asked if I wanted to go to an amusement park with him.”
“Really.”
“Yep!”
“Then what.”
“We went to a movie theaters and he asked after the movie was over if he would go out with him.”
“Ugh.” I said jealous of her getting a boyfriend. I guess it's what I tried to set up, but still!
“Hey Maka we have a math test today, did you study at all.”
“Nope!”
“Of course.”
I’m a pretty good student when it comes to grades. I normally get B’s and A’s on my report card. This test will get my math grade to a 90% if I do good. I can just feel my grade rising. My biggest problem at school is science. Science is such a pain! I have a 82% in the class, but that's because I keep using my friend’s has “resource.”
“Come on we are going to be late! to class” said Maka has she started to run into the school.
I walk into the class, and find my way to my chair. I sit down and pull out a notebook and start studying since my first period is math. It’s pretty unlucky. I mean I wake up at 6:00 AM and I have to do a test early in the morning at 7:50 AM.

“Good afternoon people! I hope everyone is having a great day so far! Nothing new going on lately besides a new gun shop being opened on Cand street. If you want a weapon here you have to go through the special training and must purchase the weapon and license for that weapon. The store that was robbed the other day is now closing and moving outside the city.”
I turn the TV on mute. I feel incredibly stupid, for just standing there. Ugh, if I was smart I would have called the cops as soon as I heard everything, or I could have ran away. If I acted fast enough I could have saved that lady.
The TV screen flashes yellow and fades into blue. All I see on the screen is my volume rising and red print that reads “Breaking News.”
“Today, the ECFA lost thousands of animals, be it on purpose or accident. These creatures are enraged with us and are destroying local buildings, and eating humans as food!”
The screen flashes and it's a video feed that is live. The ECFA building is destroyed and creatures by the millions are swarming everywhere. I can see some fighting each other and some eating humans.
“Dad!”
I get up and try to open the door.
“What the hell! Who decides that they can trap me in here! Dumbasses lock the window next time!’
I jump out the window, and start running home. I can see some monster are already here in our small town Akico. I hope my mom is fine and my dad is alive!
“Get out the way kid! Fucking move!”
I ignore the people in the cars and run across the street. I can see my small neighbor. There is about 12 houses rounded together making a little square. My family is rich, but we chose to live in a decent size house that can fit three people.
“Help!”
I look at the house farthest away from mine. It's up in flames and a giant monster is feasting on my neighbor’s legs. The monster has giant wings, it looks like a pterodactyl, but has this giant tail with spikes on it. The monster turns and looks at me. The monster eyes are small, and green. Its giant feet has toenails the size of little boats.
“Sorry.” I whisper while I start to run home.
The upgraded pterodactyl swallows my neighbor and lunges out for me
“Shit!”
I duck under a tree and jump the fence of a neighbor's yard. Shit I’ll rather have my ass handed to me by a baby golden retriever than that thing. I run to the other side of the fence and jump over it. The pterodactyl crushes the neighbors house and smashes the fence. It jumps up, flapping its wings. It’s long pointy mouth advances towards me. Well at least the puppy is alive right?
“Etzor!”
I see my dad with this giant gun. It looks like a “bazooka.” He fires it and the bullet smashes into the monster's face. Blood and scales from the monster flies all over ground including some getting on me.
“Aaahh.”
My dad falls to the ground. I run over to him.
“I’m fine. It's just a little cut.”
I see a cut on his waist. You know a katana right? Well it looks like he got cut with one.
“I have a helicopter at home. I didn’t know you were in a hospital. I was on my way.”
“Shh.” I said while covering the cut
I pick up the giant launcher and reload it’s last missile. I aim towards the monster that is smashing whatever is left of its head against the ground. I fire the weapon, and it misses, but lands close enough to drop rumble on it head. I get up after being thrown to the floor. I pick up my dad and start to walk home.
“Hurry!”
My mom yells as she seats in the helicopter, with two people.
“Help me carry him!”
The guy next to the pilot gets up, and helps me carry my dad into the helicopter.
“You should have left me.” said my dad gasping for breath
“Why? The monster was nearly dead.”
“You could have died, carrying me.”
“Sorry I don’t believe cliché stories where a guardian dies to protect their son.”
“Is that right?”
