CHAPTER 42: QUEEN

CHAPTER 42: QUEEN

FIVE MONTHS LATER

SLAKHA KINGDOM

ROYAL PALACE – THRONE ROOM

*CREAKING* *DOOR OPENING*

“HER MAJESTY QUEEN OF SLAKHA KINGDOM IS ARRIVING SHORTLY.”

A knight announced as the Throne room door opens.

*THUD* *THUD*

The nobles who were waiting in the throne room could hear loud number of footsteps approaching. They all turn their gaze quickly to see the Queen walk into the throne room.

“Viscount Carwel…”

A young brown-haired Baron in poor-quality attire calls out to the dark-haired man standing in front of him in a quiet tone.

Viscount Carwel turns around to see who called and noticed a man dressed in cloth unfitting of noble status. He could tell with a glance that the man was just some Baron of some shitty territory out in nowhere.

His head jerked backward as he wondered why such a poor excuse for a noble would need to speak with him. He thought while staring at Baron Jonan with a look of contempt.

Noticing the stare he got from the viscount, Baron Jonan realized that viscount Carwel didn’t remember who he was. Although once, they were friends when they attended the ‘Aura knight institution.’ An institution that was built to train young men to become Aura users. But it has produced no such talent since the institution was founded.

“Hmph… I wonder how such a wretch is even allowed in the palace.”

Viscount Carwal murmurs as he turns away, facing the path the queen would walk through to the throne, with an enormous smile on his face.

*TAP*

Baron Jonan feels a light tap on his shoulders. He looks behind and sees lady Fianna Barstrong.

He flinched, surprised to see her, but composed himself immediately.

“Oh, it’s good to see you, lady Fianna.”

Baron Jonan greeted in a friendly tone while avoiding her gaze.

“Ah, yes, it’s nice to see you too… how many years was it since you’ve been away from the capital?”

Lady Fianna asked.

“Well… it’s been three years since i and my family moved to our Barony.”

Baron Jonan replied quickly, out of nervousness.

Lady Fianna noticed how uncomfortable Baron Jonan was and smiled.

“Hehe, it is no use being uncomfortable around me. I have already moved on from the past. I am no longer the naïve, noble girl that fell for a commoner boy, not knowing the one I loved already loved another.

But we should bury all our feelings and memories in the past don’t you think so too Baron Jonan.”

Lady Fianna asked, with a gentle smile on her face.

“Ye–yes… it’s all in the past now.”

Baron Jonan said in an apologetic tone.

“So… what was it you were trying to ask that pompous viscount?”

Lady Fianna asked in a friendly tone.

It surprised Baron Jonan how amiable lady Fianna is, to treat him like a friend even after what he did.

“Since she forgave me, I should stop acting uncomfortable around her because of my guilty conscience.”

Baron Jonan thought in his mind.

“if it’s not much to ask, Lady Fianna. I wanted to inquire why the Knight announced a Queen instead of a king. I know that I have been away from the capital for a while, but when did the king have a daughter and how did she ascend the throne?”

Baron Jonan asked, confused by the situation.

“Well, I am not entirely sure either, but I heard from my father that an unknown army slaughtered the royal family overnight.

Then their leader, a woman, usurped the throne and proclaimed herself Queen.”

Lady Fianna explained.

“What?”

Baron Jonan yelled silently, covering his mouth with his hand. He could not believe the royal family was assassinated and there was no call to arms for revenge. Instead, all the nobles present seemed not to care that their former ruler was killed and the usurper, a woman, would sit on the throne.

“I know how surprising it sounds, but it happened. And I heard after the royal family’s death the three dukes charged into the royal palace to avenge the king, but after they entered the royal palace with their armies, only screams of death were heard throughout the night.

That part, I heard from my maids, but seeing how all three dukes are absent, it seems their story must be true.”

Lady Fianna said.

But Baron Jonan could not still believe what he heard. To his knowledge, the royal family had five hundred imperial knights guarding them, and everyone one of those knights graduated from the ‘Aura knight institution’, which means they were all second-class- Grandmaster knights. Not to talk about the imperial knight commanders and captains who were third to fourth-class- Grandmasters.

And what was more surprising was that the three Dukes who possessed unfathomable strength as seventh class- Grandmasters, also known as the ‘SHIELD OF SLAKHA’, lost. Even while working together.

Baron Jonan could not begin to fathom what sort of opponents could defeat all these powerhouses in one night.

*STOMP* *STOMP*

“HUH…?”

A loud marching sound interrupted Baron Jonan’s thought. He looks towards the Throne room entrance and sees two lines of men dressed in black military uniforms, and a red one-arm cloak.

They marched through the throne room and stopped before reaching the steps leading to the throne, standing right in front of the nobles. obstructing their view of the path where the new Queen would pass.

Faint mana emitted from their bodies, intimidating the nobles. And out of caution, the Nobles took a few steps back.

But Baron Jonan noticed something strange about these men. They had no swords or wands on them, and they also all had the same color of hair, Red.

“Why do they all have red hair? And what’s up with the silver ring on their –”

*CLOMP*

Baron Jonan muttered to himself before loud steps entering the hall interrupted him. He turns his gaze towards it and manages to see a slender feminine figure, from the brief gap between the red-cloaked men blocking the path.

From what he could see, she had on the same black military uniform as the Red cloaks, but instead of a red cloak, she had a black colored one on.

As she walked through the hall, the Red cloaked men placed one hand behind their backs and placed the other hand on their chest, showing respect to their leader.

Their actions surprised Baron Jonan and the other noblemen. Seeing the red cloaks show respect to a woman was strange to them. They became curious to see what sort of woman could bewitch these many men.

She must be a peerless beauty, they thought. But they could not dare to go further to see as they were cautious of the red-cloaked men.

And following behind the leader were a group of five people with WHITE, PURPLE, BLUE, AND ORANGE cloaks. They followed behind the leader until she started climbing the steps leading to the throne.

After getting to the throne, she turns around, revealing her face as she sits on the throne.

“She is such a beauty, isn’t she?”

A noble in the crowd uttered after seeing the leader’s face on the high throne.

“Yes, I have never seen a woman that beautiful in my life.”

Another noble said.

“If only I could make her my bride. Ha-haha.”

The chattering in the throne room became loud.

“QUIET! YOU ARE IN THE PRESENCE OF HER MAJESTY.”

Yelled the man wearing the orange cloak, releasing a terrifying mana that covered the entire hall. Under the pressure of his mana, the air became too heavy for the nobles to breathe. As they suffocate, slowly.

“ENOUGH…Callum.”

The Queen commanded as she stared at Callum with a cold gaze.

“Yes, your majesty,”

Callum said, removing his mana.

“Huff… Huff.”

After the mana disappeared, Baron Jonan breathes heavily. He could not believe that he who is a second-class Grandmaster knight could not even resist the mana coercion even though they were both second-class grandmasters.

“What sort of monsters are these?”

Baron Jonan thought in his mind with a terrified expression.

“My name is, Diana Slade. I slaughtered the former royal family and took their throne. Step forward if anyone of you sees me unfit to sit on this throne.”

Queen Diana said in a domineering tone, as she waited a few minutes. But no one stepped forward.

“Well… since there are no objections to my enthronement, I shall begin my duties as Queen… Lukius.”

Queen Diana said as she stared at one of her commanders. A tall, young, slender, handsome man with purple hair. He had black colored semi-rimless glasses on, and a purple cloak.

He walked forward with a book in hand. Opens it and started calling names.
