As you already know, I was a Hero. Many people think being a Hero is cool and all and I thought so too, I guess. I can vaguely remember my life as the Hero. I guess it was cool. Like you would see in some Fantasy Novel. But there’s one thing I for sure won’t forget. And that was the day it started.
All my sorrow, anger and pain started on that day.
I guess that day started as any other. I woke up next to my wife. Her name was Ariel. I did the usual thing. Change clothes, eat breakfast, brush my teeth and then go to the castle to get a quest I can do. Nothing special. I don’t really remember what my quest was, but it was surely something like kill goblins or something. I went home for dinner and when I wanted to head to bed, it started.
“Darling, there’s a guard knocking on the door! It seems like an emergency!”
Huh? An emergency? Shit, I don’t have time to put on my armor or something. I’ll just take my sword with me.
I rushed to the door and opened it. The guard said:
“Come, quick! The King is about to die!”
I panicked when I heard that. The King was someone I deeply respected, so hearing he was about to die made me panic. I didn’t even consider how the King was going to die. I just followed the guard. We ran to the castle, and I quickly opened the gate and rushed in. I wasn’t welcomed good though. I was welcomed with an attack from the behind- which I dodged, of course. I turned back to see who attacked me, it was the guard…
“You?!”
“Surprised?” Someone said, I turned around and saw who said it. It was the King.
“The King?! Y-You’re alright?!”

“I sure am. You won’t be alright though.”
Huh, what is he saying? What does this mean?
“Hero, you killed the Demon King, and I am grateful for that. But we don’t need you anymore, so we’ll kill you off.” He said with a smiling face.
“Huh?”
“My, My, I believe the Hero is quite confused.” The Queen came.
“Queen!? Could you explain this situation to me?”
“I believe the King already told you…”
They were for real? This has to be a dream.
“We will kill you!”
I don’t understand. Why?
Suddenly, 10 guards came and held me down. I couldn’t move. I couldn’t do anything. I was about to die for no reason.
“There’s nothing you can do, Hero!” The King screamed.
But I wouldn’t die like that. I used my Fire spell on the guards. They all died. I took this as option to leave. I ran out of the castle to my village. On the way, the King sent a few more guards.
“Guards, chase him!”
Fuck, what do I do? Why is this happening?
Wait, if they want to kill me, does that mean they want to hurt Ariel too?
Shit, I have to save her. Quick! I don’t have time!
“You will die, Hero!” Someone suddenly said. He attacked from the right. But I dodged again. I didn’t wear the name of the Hero for nothing, after all.
“Zack, you too?!” It was my comrade Zack, I couldn’t believe it, but I had to.
“Yes, me too.”
“But why?!”
“Well, because of money. The King said if I kill you, I would get lots of money!”
“You would betray your comrade for money?!”
“Of course, you dumbass! I love money more than anything so I wouldn’t care to kill an idiot like you for money!” He started laughing.
This is a joke. Zack too? I trusted them! I really did!
“You asshole!” I used my “Slash” skill and cut Zack in half. All of his blood spurted all over my body. It was gruesome. But I had to do it. For my sake. I didn’t have any choice.
I arrived at my Village.
Good, I’m there. Wait, what is this smell?
It’s fire! Shit, did they set my Village on fire?! No way!
I ran around the Village to help the people who lived there but…
They were all going to die, I couldn’t help them. And, they didn’t want me to help.
“Hey, are you okay?! I’ll help you!”
“NO! Don’t you dare to touch me!”
“Wha- “
“Shut up! The guards came and said that you set this Village on fire, so go away! I don’t care if I die!”
The only people I thought that trusted me, believed the lie of the King. Despair, that’s what I felt. Sadness and despair. I sunk deep, very deep.
Of course, I still tried to save the Villagers, but I wasn’t strong enough.
I can’t help the Villagers, but, but I can still try to save Ariel! She will believe me!
I ran to our house but, I couldn’t find her. She was gone.
Shit, where’s Ariel?!
“Ariel! Ariel! A-Ariel!” I began to cry. I believed the person I loved died in a fire. I cried because of the whole situation too, of course. I killed so many guards and a comrade I trusted. Just what did I become? I should have just died.
But then, an arrow hit my leg. I couldn’t dodge, I was too weak. I began to feel sleepy and then, I fell asleep…
