Chapter 3 – The General Has Logged In

Well, that was a fresh concept to Daniel. A world where everyone started as basic players, and slowly uncovered new classes and races sounded really cool.

There may be exceptions to this during your character creation. Tooltips are only meant to be general guidelines, and although they are generally true, they may not be representative of every aspect of the game.

Daniel nodded in approval, liking where this was going.

Smiling, he cracked his knuckles in preparation to explore a whole new world. He already felt that he was going to have a hell of a time here.

But… in a bit of a different way than how other players would approach the world. Daniel had the same passion about adventuring and fighting as other players, but he was a bit more analytical than the average adventurer.

The seconds till server opening counted down slowly, as his mind began to pace.

What class was Daniel going to pick? He was more of an analytical type of adventurer. He was more fit to be a perceptive general, rather than a brash foot soldier or even a flashy sword wielding hero. He was a master of strategy and design in the real-time strategy game Starcraft and the moba game League of Legends in the past, reaching the top quarter of a percent of the competitive playerbase in both genres, and he was beginning to show his prowess in his real-life career as well in the cutthroat financial services industry.

He was born to be a general. To be an executive decision maker.

But he didn’t just blow past his enemies with bigger armies or better mouse movement. He was a feeling type of player, a controlling type of battlefield manipulator. He liked to toy with his opponents, test them, dismantle them, see how they functioned, see how they reacted, and use that information to anticipate their next move. To feel them. To understand them. And to destroy them.

Since his glory days as a grandmaster, he enjoyed understanding and feeling his opponents, and that empathy could lift even the densest of fog of war and allow him to predict and anticipate their actions before they even committed to them.

He took a personality test once and ended up with, to put it rather cynically, a “failing score” of INFP. INFP was the most useless kind of personality for building personal wealth and power, and was the complete opposite of a CEO, or a superstar, or a general. According to many studies, it was a personality that was more fit to be a librarian, museum curator, or massage therapist.

As the “most useless” personality, it was a doomed outlook on life. Too much time spent feeling and perceiving life from other people’s points of view, and being too compassionate for their own good.

But Daniel just like he never trusted blind min-maxers, he never trusted blind reliance on the myers briggs test in the first place. It relied on the assumption that personality traits could be boiled down into eight general categories, from INFP to ESTJ.

Little did Myers or Briggs know, an overblown amount of empathy and compassion could actually reverse in the complete opposite direction, resulting in a strange mixture responsible for one of the most cold, calculating, and perceptive personality types of all time.

Daniel didn’t come here to just play this game. He came here to win, and he came here to dominate his competition, just like he did in many games prior.

Servers are now launching.

Welcome to Edenquest Online. Please read the final warning.

-----Final warning------

Welcome to Edenquest. This is the chief game designer here, Jim.

There are currently 107,097,278 players online.

Wow. Just wow.

Since this game has really blown out of proportion from what I first envisioned, and many of you are coming in with your own expectations about how a VRMMO should be, I’m here to set your expectations about the game.

First. This is not a traditional VRMMO experience. It is designed to be as realistic as it is fantastic, and it may be brutal at times. You are expected to die, and you are expected to die often. Do not be discouraged by this.

Second. There is something for every type of play style. You can play as a hero adventurer, going around towns solving quests. You can play as a farmer, and work a plot of land. Or you can even play as a pickpocket, joining gangs and living off the streets.

That is all. The rest will be explained by the guides in the starting villages.

Thank you for trying out Edenquest, and best of luck. Jim out.
