The chirping of birds got to his ears, light blinded him and then suddenly a sharp pain on the back of his head. The light and sounds dimmed away, slowly darkness was around Zero and then, nothing.

He opened his eyes and found himself in a bed, staring at a wooden ceiling. Beside him stood a thin girl with a plate in her hands that had food on it as well as a cup of water. “Ah I see you have woken up stranger” she said with a smile and a light bow. A little confused and still feeling a sharp pain on the back of his head he sat up.

“We were worried you wouldn’t wake up anymore after my father found you deep in the woods” she continued and pulled his duvet off him to hand him some clothes, only now did he notice two things, firstly, he was in some kind of strange underwear in front of this girl and otherwise naked, secondly a window had popped up before his eyes. He blushed a bit and put the duvet back over himself, the girl noticed it and smiled, she put the clothes beside him on a chair and left the room so that he could dress himself. Only now did he read the message box floating before him.

Slightly shocked Zero put his hand on the back of his head and felt bandages beneath his fingertips as well as a sharp pain, not as much as in real life but still pain. Everything felt like IRL(in real life for those who don’t know), the bed he was on, the underwear he was wearing, sounds he could faintly hear from below. It all was an amazing experience for Zero. Quickly he looked at the clothes the girl left him before dazing off any longer.

He couldn’t help himself but chuckle at the description of the items, after that he put his new clothes on, they rubbed a bit and he got a sudden itch but other than that they fit pretty well.

Curious he said “Character window” and looked at his stats.

Zero took his time looking at his Character window and nodded a few times during that.

Afterwards he stood up and went downstairs, he found the thin girl together with a bearded, rough looking man and both where sitting at a table. “Ah! Come and sit with us Zero, I was about to send my daughter to get you for dinner. How is the head?” asked the bearded man and waved him to come closer. “Still hurting but it is getting better thank you” Zero answered and sat at the table.

The man introduced himself as Khanas. “Margery you have already met” Khanas said and pointed at his daughter which bowed slightly again. The food arrived shortly after and Khanas told stories about thieving Kobolds, politics, Zero had no idea about, and a war between two countries while they ate. During all of this he grew to like this little family, the wife of Khanas that made this excellent cooking was very nice just like the rest of the family. Zero knew they were not real people but NPC’s programmed to be this way, still he couldn’t help himself but grew to like them as people and not just as things. When Khanas took a short break to gorge himself on the food Zero thanked the family for taking care of him. It felt like the right thing to do. Khanas only smiled “How could I leave a wounded young man to wolfs or trolls? It was only natural. Just to kill some time and so you don’t sit here bored to death do you maybe want to take up a sword and go for a little spar with me?”

A new window appeared before Zero.

[box border=1 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=3 width=60% bordercolor=#f5f5f5 bgcolor=#F2F2F2][col colspan=4 valign=top width=100% bordercolor=#f5f5f5 bgcolor=#000000][p=center]

Training with Khanas:

Khanas wants to save you from impending boredom but also is interested in your swordsmanship, a little spar seems to be the right way to handle this.

Reward: The Skill Swordsmanship will be unlocked and friendship with Khanas grows.

[box border=1 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=3 width=25% bordercolor=#f5f5f5 bgcolor=#F2F2F2][col colspan=4 valign=top width=100% bordercolor=#f5f5f5 bgcolor=#000000][p=center]Accept Quest?[/p][/col][/box]

Zero accepted and they both went outside after they finished their meal. He handed Zero a wooden training sword and held another one in his hand while he put up a fighting pose and smiled as if to say “whenever you are ready.”

Zero gripped his sword hard with both hands and made his mind calm. He was about to enter a fight so a hastened step or a sudden slash was for a beginner like him not an option. He had to wait and learn, while he did that he had to look for an opening, that much he knew from other games that required a lot more to fighting than just mashing buttons.

Silently he waited, the wind blew a few leaves between them and the moment Khanas shifted his weight a bit Zero dashed forward and slashed upwards. It was a sudden attack but Khanas was ready, the weight shifting was a feint and now he spun on his heel evading Zero’s attack while whacking him at the side of his ribs with his own sword.

Khanas hit him another time on his arm before he could get away and out of range of his opponent.

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Lifepoints were lowered by 4.

[/p][/col][/box]

This time Khanas took the initiative and attacked but his sword never reached Zero.

After blocking a couple of times he got the hang of it and attacked on his own after each block. The confident face of Khanas changed into a concentrated one in a single moment and they both fought over dominance in this fight.

After deflecting Khanas’s sword in a sideways angle he lunged putting the tip of his sword on Khanas’s Chest and thrusting forward with all his might.

[box border=1 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=3 width=20% bordercolor=#f5f5f5 bgcolor=#F2F2F2][col colspan=4 valign=top width=100% bordercolor=#f5f5f5 bgcolor=#000000][p=center]

Critical Hit!

[/p][/col][/box]

Zero had surprised Khanas with this move hitting even harder than intended and taking a fourth of the bearded mans health in one go.

Rubbing his Chest he smiled “Excellent Swordsmanship” and with that he attacked again even more ferocious than before. The fight went on for a while until both their Lifepoints where at 40% before Khanas dropped his sword and said it was enough. They both had bruises all over and here and there a scratch, it was an intense spar that was for sure.

Satisfied Zero got a pat on the shoulder and watched the bearded man go back into the house. A small window informed him that he completed the Quest. He looked at the new Skill that also showed up in a window.

[box border=1 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=3 width=55% bordercolor=#f5f5f5 bgcolor=#F2F2F2][col colspan=4 valign=top width=100% bordercolor=#f5f5f5 bgcolor=#000000][p=center]

Swordsmanship: Level 0 (24%)

+ 5% more damage with swords

+ 1 Agility

The Skill to make graceful movements with the sword and accomplish amazing feats, seemingly easy swords become deadly weapons in your hands.

[/p][/col][/box]

He smiled. Knowing that the 24% meant that was how far he was for levelling up the skill and making it even stronger he got into a fighting stance again instead of following Khanas back into the house, it wasn’t night yet and he had time to spare.

He imagined the bearded man again in front of him just like in the spar and dodged invisible attacks while slashing and thrusting his wooden sword left and right trying to hit the phantom of his own imagination.

After about two hours when it started to get really dark Zero stopped, panting heavily while his whole body felt like a giant bruise just with a lot of muscle pain. Sometimes this game is a little too realistic, Zero thought and dragged himself back to the house while looking at his Skill.

[box border=1 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=3 width=55% bordercolor=#f5f5f5 bgcolor=#F2F2F2][col colspan=4 valign=top width=100% bordercolor=#f5f5f5 bgcolor=#000000][p=center]

Swordsmanship: Level 1 (13%)

+ 10% more damage with swords

+ 2 Agility

The Skill to make graceful movements with the sword and accomplish amazing feats, seemingly easy swords become deadly weapons in your hands.

[/p][/col][/box]

He smiled at this accomplishment and stepped inside just to be greeted by Khanas’s wife that put a cup of water into his hand. Her name was Tara. “I hope my husband didn’t treat you too harshly in that spar, don’t hold it against him he just wants you to be ready, the world out there can be a scary place... we know that too well” her eyes grew a bit distant at the last words but Zero didn’t pry into it. “I am thankful to your husband for letting me stay in your house, giving me to eat and also treating my wounds, it is more than I could ever ask of anyone.” Honestly speaking no one had ever treated him so good especially not in the real world. He had to grow up in a harsh world where having no parents nearly meant living on the street but he pulled through, alone. This family of NPC’s, this programmed code in a game was so lifelike his heart ached knowing that good people like this didn’t exist in the real world, at least not around him. Lost in his own thoughts Tara looked at him slightly curious but didn’t interrupt his thinking. Only after he snapped out of it on his own did she lead Zero into the living room where Khanas waited, his gaze fixated on a sword that was hung up on the wall right above the fireplace.

After realising there was someone else than himself in the room Khanas gaze fell onto Zero “I have to say you know the sword quite well, far from perfect by the gods but if you keep at it, in a few years you might be a fighting Legend worth a song or two. You resemble my son a lot Zero...” Khanas stopped talking midsentence and his gaze was lost in the flames for a moment. “You should rest, its already late” he said still staring at the flames. He was right and without saying anything else Zero got up and went upstairs wishing a good night to both but only getting a reply from Tara.

With a sudden feeling as if he fell from a really high place Zero logged out and found himself in his own room again, lying on his bed. He checked the time and to his surprise saw that it was half past 8, he had only played for about two hours but Ingame, time ran Five times as fast. That way one could experience a lot more and it actually felt like as if a whole day had passed and not just two hours. Knowing he had about an hour before sunrise in Everworld he tended to his earthly needs and made himself a late Dinner consisting out of Pasta that he hurriedly ate. After that he updated his blog saying he started Everworld recently to the surprise of his followers.

Online he was known as someone who played through old school games in record time and found nearly every hidden feature even those that hadn’t been discovered yet, he himself wasn’t really aware of it but online he was quite famous as a Gamer. His reason for creating this blog was rather simple, Zero didn’t like to interact with people in real life but online he didn’t mind and he liked teaching people, surprised by it himself. The games he bought two years after actual release to save some money he played through and put his knowledge about them online.

Through his dedication with his blog he created hundreds of pages online, guides, game ratings and hidden secrets, you name it. His blog grew a lot and added screenshots as well as proper writing on his part attracted a lot more people than he imagined until he became as known as he is now.

He himself didn’t really think too much of it, he was just happy helping people that where stuck on a game. While he was writing online with one hand he played another game on a portable console in his other. Before he logged back into Everworld he finished the console game that came out about 7 years ago, wrote another guide about it and posted it to the hungry beasts he called his fanbase.

Satisfied Zero put on the helmet again and closed his eyes, he couldn’t help but smile thinking that he was going to go back to this world he already loved.
