Intro

"Can you ever really expect the unexpected?"

I mutter to myself, combing out my tangled, jet black hair while staring at my own bright blue eyes. My reflection bounced back a look of frustration, my tangled hair curling around my jawline and draped over my shoulders. My name is Evangeline, and I've lived in this small boring town my whole life, never expecting anything. However, my grandmother always told me, "Expect the unexpected dear" and "Nothing is ever really as it seems" and I disregarded her until the day my Mother passed away. You see, my Father, I never met and was never told a word about, even the small mention of him would set to rage or rivers of tears. I lived with my Grandmother in this town and my mother occasionally visited me. We were never as close to each other as Grama and I were. As a child, I often questioned my grandmother as to why I couldn't leave the town and she always calmly replied, "In time dear. You are a little blossom in the wind, and soon you will be blown away from your orchard and find where you belong" only being 5 years at the time I would laugh and say "That's silly gramma! I'm not a flower!" and she would smile and continue on with what she was doing. When I was 10 years old I remember blowing out my candles and ask her a similar question. She had replied with the same thing. "In time. You will understand eventually". When I was finally 13 -which by the way is a teenager for those of you who disagree-, I was very excited. I thought, "Hey I'm older now right? I should understand what that thing grandma always says, means!" All that became pushed out of my mind when I found out my mother died. I may not have seen her all that often, but this devastated me. My mind flooded with many thoughts but the most persistent was, "I no longer have a mother".
