“My name is Lieutenant Gray. I come from a far away time, a thousand years in the future. I was sent to protect humanity. In the year 3,050 a wish was made. The most powerful entity in the universe granted it. In ten years time, magic will exist. Your world will change forever. There are others that would seek you for your magic. There is a single question; will you rise together to face the future, or will you crumble against the weight of others that would seek to exploit you? Don’t make us force you to unite.”

When everything changed, I was at home. I am only 20 years old. I was lying in bed sick. Suddenly I felt a change in my body. I got up, and was dizzy. Over the next ten minutes, I was on the ground screaming. I lived alone. I heard screaming from somewhere nearby. Several people in the surrounding area. After 10 minutes, my body changed forever. I was no longer sick, and I felt a new connection. Something powerful changed me.

I was at work when it happened. The pain forced me to my knees. I never felt anything like it. Around me everyone else also fell, some to the ground, others to hands and knees. I was the only one to remain on my knees. After 10 minutes something in my heart changed. It felt wrong, and I know something was different. A connection. To a being beyond compression. A being that changed us.

We were excavating the ruins on the dark side of the moon when it happened. Me and several others from other countries. I fell limp due to the pain. It was like something pulled me to the surface of the moon. It was like I was back on earth. Was it the temple? Was it changing us? No. My gut said something else changed. My heart throbbed in my chest. Something of unknown origin changed us forever.

As I shake, I get up off the ground. My body is different. I don’t know how or why it is different, it just is. It is dim, and early in the morning. I raise my hand as if by instinct, and reach for a power to create a light. All around me the darkness recedes. I created light from nothing?
The light goes out.
Yes, but also no. I can sense something in the air around me. I know not what it is, but it comforts me. I am so very hungry. I need something for breakfast.
I make my way over to the kitchen to get something. I live with a roommate, I see him yawning. At least I thought he was yawning. He is crying. I walk over to him.
“Hey, are you ok?”
“Yes, I’m ok. That hurt a lot. I thought I had a heart attack or something, but I’m still alive. Goodness, I am famished.”
“I had something similar, I don’t know what it was, but I am also hungry. Let's talk over some breakfast?”
He sits down nearby and I pull out some eggs and bacon and start them cooking. Before too long we are eating breakfast.
“I just saw something on my phone. It is very concerning. It wasn’t just us to have that happen. It seems everyone had it happen at the same time, for the same time. And everyone has the feeling of something different changing inside.”
“That is interesting.”
“Interesting? Try bad. Some people have figured out the change already, and they have killed people. I don’t think that this is going to be any good.”
“Well, I can agree with you there. I think that this isn’t good, but it will be interesting.”
“Ok, whatever. Somehow order has been kept.”
“Good,” I say. I hope that people don’t panic and start looting. It wouldn’t be good for us. I wouldn’t be surprised, when nations started to consolidate for some reason from 2,040 to 2,045 people rioted. I don’t understand why we united, but it somehow worked. Even ideologically different nations joined, which I don’t entirely understand.
After a little while we received a message from the government.
“Citizens of the world. As you have all noticed, something has changed. You have changed. Something has changed us all, a being of unfathomable power. It is with a heavy heart that we must inform you of another development. There are others in our universe. We are not alone. Experiment with your new powers, create new powers to call your own. Remain calm and vigilant. In this newly trying time we must stand together, as a people, as a world. This is Lieutenant Gray, Signing off.”
