Eternal Sleep
Repeats like nothing.

Repeats like nothing.

He walked down the hallway with the little girl on his back, talking with her about his adventures, she curiously asked him, "Big brother, how did you beat the monsters so easily?" He was silent for a moment, before responding, "Oh, I just followed my instincts."

The girl had stars in her eyes, "Really? Big brother! You're so cool!" He blushed, "Well I'm really not that great." As he was feeling great about himself, he spotted a weird looking door, different from the other doors he saw before, this one was black in color with no red anywhere.

He paused making the girl confused, "Big brother what's wrong?" He crounched down and sat her down next to the wall, and handed her a makeshift bat made from a chair leg. "Shhh, be quiet, there might be a monster on the other side. Here take this, wait here and don't go anywhere for me, I'll check what's on the other side." She grabbed the bat and nodded.

He carefully opened the door and slowly stepped inside, he saw a monster facing the wall, he checked the room to make sure there's only one inside, and quietly crouched over to it, he gripped his bat and whacked the back of it's head with it.

A loud crack sounded from the point of impact, he grinned in satisfaction, just as he turned around to exit the room, a hand gripped his back, making him shiver and swung his bat back in panic. He hitted the monster in the face with it through sheer luck, it went down to the floor with a thud.

He mutilated it's face with his bat dozens of times before stopping. He breathed heavily and lower the bat down, just as he exited the room, he turned around to look for the girl only to find a bloody and detached head, he froze entirely, his body shook and he couldn't process what he saw, he took a look at the face of the head with hope.

Only to confirm that it was indeed her.

Tears flowed down his face and he screamed in pain, "Why?! It was going so well! Why did she die?!" A chuckle disrupted his cry, he turned around to look at the monster, it grinned at him with blood covering it's mouth, he stared at it, and silently raised his bat.

It laughed at his futile act and swiped it's claw from his face down to his feet, his entire body splitted in half and blood splattered across the floor, walls and ceiling. Pain and regret filled his mind, 'Just how could I be so careless? Of course a monster would come by, why did I let her be alone? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why...?' and at this moment, he realised.

He died.
