Chapter 6 - The Monologue of Truth
Inside Kane`s concealed room were two people. One of them was Kane, who was disabled on the ground, and the other one was the beautiful Julia, who sat quietly on a chair.
Julia brought out one of her red cigarettes, which she placed on her right`s hand index figure. A small flame erupted from her finger, as she lit the cigarette up and then took in a breath of smoke.
“As you are most probably already aware, my name is Julia. I form part of an independent organisation called the Scientific Research Centre. Our objective is to perform various scientific experiments throughout the galaxy, with the aim of improving the scientific knowledge of our Human race. This organisation has now existed for hundreds of thousands of years.”
She then inhaled and exhaled another deep breath of smoke as she continued.
“One of the various scientific projects that our ancestors had started, was the one of genetically modified lifeforms. This was actually a secret project that only the higher ups of the Scientific Research Centre and the higher echelons of the Imperial Empire were aware of. For this project, the then uninhabited planet Yuba was designated as the perfect place to conduct such experiments. Planet Yuba was the ideal candidate because of various reasons. First of all, it was located in the southern sector of the galaxy, a sector which lacks habitable planets and no human clans are stationed within it. This was ideal as it reduced the possibility of unwanted external interference by other humans. The second reason is that it lays within the habitable zone of its star system. The third reason was that out of all the other planetary candidates, the day and year cycle of planet Yuba was almost identical to our standard galactic time, with only a trivial difference of few seconds every century.”
Julia kept chatting, at times taking a small break to smoke. Kane listened attentively to her, even though his body was in terrible pain.
“My ancestors then brought over animals and vegetation from other planets, and performed numerous genetic tests to alter and assist them in their evolution. This lasted for thousands of years. However, around one hundred thousand years ago, the implementation of this project took a different direction. The scientists started to modify a particular race of apes, and slowly transformed their DNA to resemble that of us humans. In just a period of ten thousand years, the first genetically modified humans had appeared on that planet.”
“We then stood behind the shadows, while we slowly taught your ancestors. We educated them how to tame animals and farm basic food needs. We indirectly thought them our language, time, some of our technologies and basic infrastructure and constructions. You could say that the Scientific Research Centre was like the parental guardian of that planet.”
“However, the real goal of the project was not attained. That is because no matter how much we tried, we didn’t manage to create any of the three forms of powers into your bodies. We had spent thousands of years trying to succeed but we had failed regardless of which approach we took.”
“It was around twenty thousand years ago that we had finally given up and decided to conclude the project. The few remaining scientists left planet Yuba shortly after. Even though we didn’t view you that much different from other animals, we had decided that there was no harm in letting you live. You have been our pets for so long, it was only normal for us to feel some attachment for you.”
“For the remaining years, the modified humans of planet Yuba kept evolving at a rapid pace, even without us as guardians. Slowly you managed to form villages and towns, which were followed by cities and even empires. We were actually amazed by your rapid progress.”
“However, one year ago, we were forced to make a though decision. Following a three day meeting organised by our Higher Scientific Council, we had finally come to an agreement. The decision was to exterminate all living life forms of Planet Yuba.”
Upon hearing this, Kane`s eyes widened. Julia`s words triggered a tremor inside his body, like he was suddenly hit by a bolt of lightning. His mind was thrown into total chaos, as tears appeared into his eyes, slowly moving down his face as they mixed with his blood that laid on the floor.
“It took us a while to prepare for this mission. The galaxy is split into nine sectors, and our Head Quarters is located on a planet in the middle of the northern sector. Since the central sector is a dangerous region, we had to travel all the way around it while passing through four different sectors, until we finally arrived here.”
“When we arrived, we unleashed a powerful weapon that was totally harmless to us. However, for you genetically modified humans, it was more than enough to kill you. All living lifeforms on planet Yuba were instantly annihilated.”
“However there was an exception, and that was you. I don’t know if it was a case of some freak coincidence or if the creators actually took pity on you and instructed the heavens to lend you a hand. Even though you lack the first form of powers, and which I can safely assume you even lack the second and third form of powers, you actually managed to survive. Maybe your physical strength was tough enough to resist the force, or there was some malfunction in the weapon that prevented it from covering the entire planet. In any case, you should really consider yourself lucky to be still alive.”
“Despite that, your future prospects doesn’t look good. You are a basically a total cripple, the weakest strength a human being could possibly be. Among the various clans and Imperial Planets, you will be basically considered a slave which families casually buy as a luxury. Overall, your life will be much worse than it was on planet Yuba.”
Julia then stood up and walked towards Kane. She lowered herself on her knees and placed a yellowish looking pill into his mouth.
“The pill I gave you is a high level healing pill. Once swallowed, it will heal all your injuries and fractured bones in roughly a week`s time. If you want to die you can always spit it out. In the condition you are, at most you have around two hours left before you succumb to your injuries. On the other hand, if you want to live and spend all your remaining life as a slave, feel free to swallow it. I will leave the decision up to you.”
Julia then got back straight up, as she slowly moved towards the sealed door of the room. Before she opened the door, she turned her gaze one last time towards him.
“Let me warn you about something. Just in case you decide that you want to keep on living; I would recommend that you never mention with others what has transpired here over the course of these few weeks. You would only be putting yourself into unnecessary danger. Most people wouldn’t even believe you as they aren’t even aware of the existence of planet Yuba. I am sure you are wondering why I haven’t killed you. Well, I don’t really view you as a threat since you are a cripple. You are far too weak to do anything dangerous against us.”

Then she paused for a moment, as a hint of sadness appeared upon her face. She softly said, “Your appearance greatly resembles that of my little brother who died not so long ago.” Again, she paused for a few breaths, seemingly lost in thought.
“I shall be leaving now. Soon we will be arriving on planet Magenta to replenish our supplies. When that time arrives, I will be sending two guards to check upon you. If you are death, I will promise you that they will give you a proper burial so that you can rest in peace. If you are alive, they will be selling you to a nearby slave market.”
Kane could hear the sound of the rumbling door as it slowly opened and reclosed. The pill in his mouth was still solid despite being covered by his saliva. He actually was enjoying the pleasant taste of the pill as he moved it around his mouth. After playing with it in his mouth for a while, he then gave the pill a push with his tongue and swallowed it. Instantly he felt a warm aura that quickly spread throughout his body. He felt his internal organs and bones were already healing, albeit at a slow pace. At first he had his doubts that such a small pill could actually save him, but after experiencing its effects, he instantly felt relieved.
He had already decided that he wanted to keep on living. It is true that he had lost everything, but he still had the most important thing. And that was his own life! As long as he was alive, he could always rebuild everything from scratch. He could find new friends who would be willing to support him, and maybe even find a foster family who would take care of him.
Even though in his heart he wished for immediate revenge, he knew that he didn’t have the strength to do it now. But it was his duty to stay alive, because with him laid the sole hope for all those who had died on planet Yuba. If he failed to avenge them, he would be letting all of them down.
He whispered to himself. “Father… family… friends… all the habitants of planet Yuba, just wait for me. I’ll definitely find a way to avenge all of you! You just have to give me some more time, I’ll promise you I will not disappoint you.” He then closed his eyes as he slept on the floor.
Days kept on slowly passing by. Finally, the base of the scientific research centre had arrived over planet Magenta. The personnel at the command room were currently making the necessary preparations for the landing. Shortly after, the descent had begun. It didn’t take that long for the base to land peacefully on the ground.
Kane was currently sitting on his bed. He was in good shape, totally recovered. Suddenly, he heard the door of his room open, as two men came inside his room.
“Oh… his still alive,” One of the men promptly said.
Kane looked at them, then waved his shirt, seemingly telling them that he requires a new set of cloths. The two men looked at each other a little confused.
“Okay, okay I will bring you a new set of cloths… just wait for me here.” One of the men said as he left the room while complaining into his heart.
Meanwhile, the other man stood guard. It didn’t took long for the first man to arrive with a new sets of cloths, who then gave them to Kane. Kane nodded with a smile, then started changing. The two guards patiently waited outside for him to finish changing.
“Looks like his done, let`s get moving," one of the guards promptly said as he saw Kane coming out of his room. They moved together through several passageways, before arriving in front of a dimensional portal. They walked through the portal and reappeared outside of another portal that was located at the bottom of the base.
Kane slowly observed his surroundings. The sky was violet coloured, and in the distance he could see several large violet mountains. The ground around this area was covered by a durable blackish material, and it wasn’t hard to figure that this material was actually man made. However, outside this area, the ground was violet coloured like the rest of the planet landscape. Kane could also finally view the majestic base in its entirety, as last time on planet Yuba he was obstructed by Ozzy.
The guards started walking, while Kane stared at them in a weird way. One of the guards turned around and asked, “What`s wrong?” The face of the other guard turned red in embarrassment as he said, “Regretfully, we aren’t yet strong enough to engage in flight. I fear you have to walk with us.” Kane instantly frowned, then walked behind them in a hurried pace.
They kept walking nonstop for three hours. On their way they had passed through several villages and towns. All the surrounding vegetation was yellowish in colour, and there were all sorts of weird animals that Kane had never seen before in his life.
Finally they had arrived on the outskirts of a large city. The guards at the city walls stopped them for verification. It was then when one of the men showed his Scientific Research Centre Emblem. The city guards immediately recognized the emblem, and allowed them to pass. They kept moving ahead until they appeared in front of a long tower. They entered inside, and in the reception they saw an old man who was wobbling on his chair.
“Greetings, greetings my dear customers! Welcome to my shop! If you need any…” the old man was immediately interrupted by one of the men.
“We hail from the Scientific Research Centre. We have found a cripple along our way, and we decided to hand him to you for free. I am sure you will be able to find a new home for him. We are leaving now.”
The other man turned towards Kane as he said, “We are leaving now young chap. I wish you all the best for your future.”
The eyes of the old man instantly flashed with delight. “Woohoo, you of the Scientific Research Centre are always so generous. If you ever need some exotic ingredients, come and find me, I will definitely be of an assistance!”
Both men nodded to the old man and departed the shop. The old man instantly woke up and slowly approached Kane, whilst waving the index finger of his left hand towards his face.
“You are lucky young fella! You are lucky young fella! An old time friend of mine, had just lost a servant and is on the lookout for a new one. He requested my help two days ago. Who would have thought I would find him one so easily! Ha Ha.”
“Don’t worry young fella! My friend is a real gentlemen and the clan he hails from treats its servants with respect, unlike the majority of clans on this planet. I will be sending a messenger to inform his clan immediately, and they should come and pick you up in the coming days. Until then you can enjoy living here.”
Hearing this, Kane nodded in agreement as he smiled. Perhaps, his dream of finding a new family wasn’t that far away.
