Lost In The Darkness

World Building:

* Astreia: This is the biggest of the three kingdoms and has the most powerful army. The capital is Valmont, which is the most popular city and has the most bustling tourism. It is ruled by King Demitri who has 2 younger brother General Ezra and Healer Sam

* Kalimar: This is the second of the three kingdoms and is a desert wasteland mostly, but its capital Furiya is a developed city with high skyscrapers and flying cars. The citizens here usually keep to themselves, and the country is famous for its beautiful sunsets. It is ruled by King Hamzia and princess Circe.

* Telvian: This is the third of the three kingdoms and has the coldest climate. It is an icy kingdom in the north and has a giant ice wall 20 feet tall to keep intruders out. It is very secluded and is ruled by King Aiyas and Queen Ursi.

No one knows the exact date of when vampires took over, but the overtaking is called The Emergence and is said to have happened approximately 79 years ago and was started by an unknown vampire known as The Origin who no vampire has ever met or seen.

Later vampires developed a council with the three kings and the five advisors who are the oldest vampires alive. The three kingdoms together have a combined population of 8.1 billion with the vampire population being 5.47 billion and the remaining being humans and hybrids.

Chapter 1:

You would think when the world ended there would be a great apocalypse or a world war, which was close, but not exactly what happened. Instead of zombies ending the human race, it was vampires. Blood thirsty monsters who either turned humans into one of the them or made humans their slaves. Forcing them to obey their every command and killing them ruthlessly if they disobeyed.

Frey Harvey was used to living on the run, blending into the background and shadows. He had never done anything risky in his life that would attract attention of any sort and he liked to keep it that way.

Frey survived because he was cautious and paranoid, he never lingered anywhere too long, he had only been 7 when the world ended and was plunged into eternal night. But now, at 21 he was one of the few remaining humans who had never been bitten by a vampire for any reason. And he wanted to keep it that way.

There was nothing left of Frey’s family for him to miss, he had never met his father and his mother was dead. He had raised himself on the streets and had gotten a job as soon as he was old enough in a small mostly human part of town.

Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings.

After he had some decent income Frey had rented an apartment and the first real thing he had bought after was a canvas and some paint brushes.

His love for art was some of the only things his mother had left him and he refused to let it die with her.

“Are you going out with the rest of the guys tonight?”

Although annoying and persistent Dean was one of the only people in Frey’s town that didn’t think he was an outcast and a complete psycho, and so the two of them had formed a fragile sort of friendship that was hard to come by nowadays.

“I’m visiting my mother’s grave tonight, but maybe next time.” We both knew I wouldn’t come the next time he asked, just like I hadn’t come the first time.

“Alright then say hello to her for me.”

I nodded my head at him and went to the backroom to clock out, one of the things about working at a book store was that we mostly had days where no one would come in and we could leave early, and the fact that I had free access to one of the only places in Valmont that still sold books.

The walk to the graveyard was cold and wet, but considering it was winter and this was pretty much the weather all year round, most people got used to it. It helped that the majority of Valmont’s citizens were vampires who ran cold anyways.

When I reached the graveyard, it was completely dark. The whole sky was illuminated by the red moon and some stars that guided me to my mother’s grave.

It had a small headstone and no name, which was to be expected in these times since the dead walked among us now.

I don’t know how long I sat there; time was a blur these days, and I could not care enough to keep track of it. I got up to leave and when I turned around, I was met with the back of a young boy.

He had dark brown hair from what I could see, a petite figure with long slim fingers that were gently placing flowers on the grave. Logically my instincts were screaming at me to turn and run, but my heart begged me to move closer and that was a dangerous thing.

I didn’t survive 12 years by trusting my heart, so I slowly backed up trying to be as silent as possible without alarming the other boy of my presence. Luck seemed to not be on my side today because I ended up stepping on a twig of all things and watched as sharp ‘crack’ rang out.

The boy’s head whipped towards me but he was still looking at the ground, so I couldn’t exactly see his features properly, but he was clearly taken aback by the fact that he didn’t hear me coming.

At this point I stopped trying to run and instead listened to my heart and stayed where I was just staring at the boy.

“I’m sorry I didn’t know someone else was here.”

The boy’s voice was smooth and familiar in a way I couldn’t describe, it was like a siren call and I found that I couldn’t move even if I wanted to, I was firmly rooted in place.

I tried to summon up something to say, but found myself speechless. This was uncharted territory; I had never seen anyone in this graveyard before and to mysteriously see this boy today made alarm bells ring in my head.

“Who are you?”

The boy let out a deep sigh and looked as if he were contemplating something for what felt like an eternity. He must have come to a conclusion because he slowly raised his face and that’s when I knew I should have run.

Ruby red eyes stared into my soul and trapped me with their intense gaze.

“My name is Louis and I’m here to serve you your highness.” This was the last thing I heard.

The last thing I saw was one of my greatest fears was bowing to me, before everything went black and I was lost in the darkness.
