Far far away from lesk, aeons away even. A planet revolved around its sun and two moons revolved around it. It was a tiny planet in comparison to the lesk, perhaps one third of its size, but it's inhabitants were content with their little world. Despite its size, it commanded attention. After all planet Maveron had it all, exotic wildlife, tropical islands, dense jungles and legendary monsters. But the thing most special about Maveron was its inhabitants.
The dwellers of the said planet were hardly sentient beings, no. They were people from different races; Humans, Deamons, Gnolls, Fae, Dragons, Draconians, Animalfolk, Walkers, and every other species you could think of. They had all transcended godhood, and yet had refused to join the rank of gods; choosing instead to isolate themselves on their own planet.
If you wondered "how did that work?" Of course with some races predatory enough to devour their neighbor it really was a delicate balance and in the past there had been conflict but over the years they had created working communities, kingdoms, Countries and Empires. There were those who disagreed simply because they had no reason to agree, the dragons for instance choosing to live separately as individuals in caves or on mountains, shunning contact with the rest of the world. But they had a king and even he made the journey south.
Every race had a ruling class, the Deamons their lords, the Draconians their heirs, the Animalfolk their jungle kings, the fae their chosen, and the Gnolls their chiefs but above them all stood a Queen, not just any queen either for she was in command of all things that partaineth to the world, she was the Godqueen.
The Queen lived in a castle, like any other Queen did and had even taken kings, her castle stood at the edge of the world, father south than anywhere else. Once in every millennia, all the rulers travelled south to her castle, and she was immotal even while she wasn't. She aged and she died, albeit as slow a process as a snail travelling across the ground. When a Queen died, her essence is scattered all over the world to converge a century later and she is reborn, a strange process to say the least, and no one could explain why it was but for the fact that the first Queen wished it to be. She is reborn of course not without the memories of her former lives, and so she lives on.
But you see it would be long before the cycle continued because the queen was young, she had been reborn in a farm in the middle of nowhere but that was a whole other story. The Queen was a few decades old. It was said that the Queen was reborn as a different person each tine so she could learn new things and meet new people even. If we were to talk about the Queen a whole book would be written but this was not her story, it was a story about a child that was was much more younger than she was, a child of prophecy like many of the others that had suddenly popped up all over the void.
The castle stood, a magnificent structure for any who saw it would be in awe, its wall were so high it would be an unfathomable thing to take the castle. it reached high into the sun and cast an imposing shadow, today thousands had flocked to it for safety and panic filled the castle because today unlike yesterday or the day before the sun stood still. Hours had passed and yet the sun had refused to set surely the planet could not just have stopped revolving, seas would overflow and everything that was on the surface of the planet would be thrown sideways with such acceleration that they would be crushed but it wasn't the phenomenon so much as the promise of doom that came with it that troubled the people, thousands had rushed in troved to castle to seek shelter and comfort. It was a troubling issue and every king, queen or ruler had made the journey south.
A boy walked with certainty, looking forward and stepping carefully over the bodies, as he went the darkness followed him, creeping across the ceilings and swallowing everything he passed, it was like a black hole had opened up and was consuming everything in its sight, only it wasn't. He turned round the corner and spotted two guards, they wore the official castle guard black and ash armor
"What are you doing here kid?" One of them raised his visor
The child glanced at him disdainfully, each of them carried huge swords and eyed him wearily, they were on alert, he couldn't fanthom why but then again they had all looked afraid, right before they were torn apart
He continued forward and one of the guards held out a hand "stop immediately!!!" The guard yelled. What fools. The other one had turned ghastly white and had started to tremble ad the darkness followed, it contorted and a tendril lashed out. A whip of pure dark. It wrapped around the first guard, picked him up like a doll and tossed him into the wall with a THWACK.
The child didn't even spare him a glance, in the corner of his eye though he noticed the way his helmet had caved in, his skull would have been crushed. The other guard turned and ran and the boy watched him go with a gleeful smile. It wouldn't matter if he alerted the others. It was already too late for them

Queen Alvarez or as she was fondly called by her subjects; the godqueen sat in her throne trying hard not to squirm, which seemed to be an impossible task as all eyes were on her. Say a year or two ago she would have fled the room and all of these people but now she was queen and so she sat rigid in her throne.
Her vassals had yet to arrive, she had been shocked to receive their letters, informing her of the impending doom and their arrangements to arrive immediately, she was excited. But that was to say the least after all her vassals were legends from fairy tales she had thought couldn't exist, a dragon king, a demon lord, a jungle king and so much more.
Problem was - they were millions of years older than she was as she was just four decades old, she had been trying to still her nerves with a warm soak in her bath when she had been alerted to the huge panic that was ensuing
If anyone had asked the queen what she thought of the matter, she would shrug and say
"I really don't see the big deal, sure the sun stands still or the Maveron stands still but we aren't all dead yet and aren't exactly dying or anything"
But no one had thought to ask the queen and so she stayed her tongue, her eyes roaming the panicking crowd just one mistake away from a full on riot
"Repent of your sins! Our doom is here", A priest yelled from the crowd and she had to stop herself from rolling her eyes, ages ago, their ancestors had been gods. Or so they said. And while some people had quirks and strange powers most were normal, with their supposed powers lying dormant. The queen was of the latter sort.
"Dune, who is that?" She asked and her right hand man had a sour expression as he regarded the priest clad in black robes
"A priest of the brotherhood, nasty sort" he said
He stood beside her, eyes scanning the crowd for the first sign of danger. Dune of Maveron, the retainer to the hundreds of her predecessors. She smiled to herself as he scowled
A lifetime away, she had been on her farm, a simple girl from a simple village, when he had shown up. As always he had had a scowl on his face as he regarded her, he had told her she was the reincarnation of the First queen and it was her destiny to rule the world, she had laughed at first. And she had said she hadn't believed but she had. visions plagued her, memories more of and she knew she was special but she had grinned and said
"Get off my property or I'll call the watch"
A funny thing to have said she realized now as she remembered how his lips curled up in a little smile.
Unauthorized duplication: this narrative has been taken without consent. Report sightings.
How many ranks did he supersede the watch by? She hadn't gotten around to asking, cause even though she wouldn't admit it she was scared of the man that stood beside her.
"You should calm them" He spoke calmly
"Like I'd get in the middle of that. No thank you" The Queen pursed her lips and felt him stare
"You are their queen. It is your duty" He insisted
"And how do I do that?" She asked
"Make assurances" came the reply
Of course it was easy for him. He didn't sit in the huge chair and have everyone look to him for solutions. Which in retrospect wasn't fair to him as he probably had as much to do in the decision making as any queen. Alvarez pouted, and in that moment she was no queen but a young woman, unsure of herself and her skills BUT then she remembered and her gaze sharpened. She was not a young woman anymore, but a Queen, an immortal queen. And the room fell silent for she commanded attention
"I am aware of the prophesy that comes with such a phenomenon, for I know all that go on in my kingdom but we will not falter or hide under rocks for fear of some ill met prophesy... We have conquered all that have stood in our way and this- this will prove no different" She spoke and at once culled the panic that had all but swallowed the room
And she was right. Atleast from her own perspective; she was Queen Maveron of the deserted planet and she had single handedly defeated death, something even Qrul and his foolhardy brother had been unable to do. Even the eldest gods lived in fear of their mortality for they aged and even died during wars or battles. And the oldest were no different.
"What are we to do godqueen?"
"How do we avert this crisis?" Questions flooded her from all angles and she scowled
"My vassals approach. Even now I feel them, once they arrive, we will make a debuachery of this prophesy"
The room had quieted again, and her nobility had started to speak among themselves
"You have returned, my queen" Dune breathed and she turned her head
"Dune... You take care of me still" she smiled
"It is but a small thing your majesty" He inclined his head slightly
"Everything is as I remember it, the faceless still line the walls and the courtroom is filled with human nobility" she sighed
The faceless were her personal guards, they like her were undying for they were already dead, and they stood as they had for millions of years, eyes forward as they lined the wall, three hundred elite. A small force by any standards and yet she knew their might. Only a handful of them could crush an entire world not to talk of three hundred. They had abandoned their mortality to serve her and for that she would forever be grateful
"And I wish you could see more, your majesty" Dune said
"Ah. But this body cannot sustain me for long" she said and as if on que she jolted and the young woman returned, her head hurt and she felt cold
"Her majesty!!! Let me see her majesty!!!" A man yelled from outside the courtroom and a hush descended
She heard the brief struggle that occurred and narrowed her eyes as a guard crashed into the courtroom, the other guards pulling him away or trying to, the noise wasn't exactly helping as her head throbbed
"Let him be" she said, the guards pulled back reluctantly and he dropped to his knees
"Your majesty. You must leave immediately, he comes" He spoke brusquely
"Who comes?" She arched her eyebrows
"The doombringer. I saw him with my own eyes. He comes for us all" He muttered and she tried hard not to look away, she could tell he had lost it, the dilated pupil and the way he rocked back and forth showed it to everyone present and she wandered like everyone else present. What had happened to the poor soul?
She felt the nobility shift, felt their panic returning and wandered how the heck had she managed to cull it in the first place, but she would try because she was Queen. So much for a hysteric free day.
"W-" she had started to speak when the mans head had flown from his shoulders and rolled to a stop in front of her throne, Dunes hand had travelled to his sword immediately and her mouth hung open in a silent scream
Only then did she notice the darkness that had seemed to envelope the door, she heard the footsteps and her heart stopped and out into the light stepped a boy, his crimson eyes landed on her and he smiled widely
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
The child stepped out of the darkness dramatically, pausing for added effect and his eyes travelled to the queen, her mouth hung open and the look of horror on her fave made him giddy. He eyed the faceless wearily as he studied the room, they stared coldly at him and as one leapt.
They were coordinated, he'd give them that. But they were slow compared to the monster he had brought with him. One of them got to him faster than the others, her- no its arm blurred as it thrust its spear, the child stared unimpressed and the spear broke through his barrier, stopping a few inches from his face and he smiled wickedly as it was ripped in half by a huge clawed hand that had reached out of the darkness.
He heard shrieking and finally noticed the nobility, they were running over each other in a bid to get as far away from his as possible. His monster had started to take shape, the darkness had swelled and then contracted, forming a huge beast, it towered above him, a whopping ten feet tall and a lean build, its arms fell by its side and dragged across the floor, its eyes a crimson color like his and its feet complimented by claws long enough to dig firmly into the ground, it was hunched over and its tongue flopped lazily out of its mouth, another one of its forms.
"Nobody but me gets to harm the boy" It spoke with a raspy voice and chortled
It pulled back it arms and swung, sending the faceless into the wall and yet they still stood, they had divided themselves into two units, one to destroy him and the other his monstrosity, he tsked as they approached him, undead fighters all of them. It didn't matter their might now. He looked at the queen and saw her. Not the young girl but the Queen of the deserted planet, her brown eyes twinkled with amusement as she smiled
"Put on a show for me. Hm, doombringer" she spoke and the faceless attacked
He scowled as she leaned back in her chair carefree, it wasn't surprising, considering she couldn't be killed but surely she should care about her subjects. Okay maybe the snotty nosed nobility did not deserve her good will but what about her retainer. He stood still, a scowl on his face as the boy locked eyes with him and the child realized he wasn't afraid. How could he be? He was in the presence of a legend.
The child smirked, did she underestimate him so much? Or was she just confident? It did matter though
He leapt away as a faceless dove for him, dodged a slash and did a cartwheel, avoiding knifes, swords, blades, axes, spears and arrows as they sped towards him
"{Wrath of the revenant}" He put a hand to his face and removed it, he had changed and the faceless froze
The revenant was a legend in his own right you see. Messenger to the titans, the parents of the gods and he stared at the faceless, looking down at them through his nose
"What is the meaning of this?" He asked and his eyes came to rest on the Queens visage
"Faliak- its been a while" The queen spoke first
"Not long enough" He scowled and a blade appeared in his hand, his soul eater. A weapon as legendary as he was, his blade of destruction, the sword that cut through even fate. Icav. "This time I WILL behead you" he hissed and the Queen grinned
Once they had been friends and now... There was no love lost. He propelled himself forward and her elite fell, they simply could not match him, his speed, his prowess. Oh and his sword that cut through anything it touched.
The Queen felt them fell, her elite. She grit her teeth as they died again and yet she could do nothing, not only was she powerless in this body, the girl hadn't even come to inherit half of her memories yet and could barely wield a sword, and so she sat in her throne gripping the edges so tightly her knuckles turned white. She saw it coming, the promised doom. Her world would not survive it.
The battle had not lasted long and soon the revenant marched up the stone steps to her throne, he held his sword to her throat and barely turned when Dune had unsheathed his blade
"Dune." The queen said sharply
"Your majesty" he had glared but had refused to lower his sword
"I could not forgive myself if you died" The queen stated
"But your majesty-"
"These are my orders, ride west. Prevent the world form falling into ruins and wait for my rebirth" she spoke sharply and he bowed
"Yes my queen" he winced
"Would you look at that. She cares" Faliak hissed sarcasm dripping from his words
"I always-" she had started but didn't finish, with a flick of his wrist her head had come undone, rolling down the stone steps
Dune grit his teeth and his grip on his sword tightened but then he turned and started toward the door
"I will remember" he promised. And he always did
The revenant clicked his tongue distastefully and the child returned, he dropped into the throne tired and watched the retainer go scowling
"What a waste" The raspy voice said pitifully and the child rolled his eyes
"I should not have let him go?" the child asked "He will become a thorn in your side" it turned to him and the darkness scattered forming shadows all over the once illuminated room, he didn't ask about the nobility as he knew what had happened to them and the faceless, they had been consumed, their essence fed on
"My father owed her a debt. i have paid it back in full" The boy said
From the shadows, the darkness cackled
"what is so funny?" He arched his eyebrows
"They come" came the reply
