"Five? What is 'five'?"

"Oh! Do you see your thumb and fingers? Pair each of them with an apple. Then you get five apples." I explained to him.

"But how can I know which one pairs with thumb and so on."

"A good question. It just doesn't matter. The way to pair them depends on you, the only thing you should care about is that one to one. But what is 'one'? I don't know. I just know." I said.

He was silent. I guess anyone who heard my words will be silent. We just do our work day and night, year after year. It seems that a world without equations has nothing different. But after we create the first equation, everything has changed. At least, we know how to count five apples. And something else, maybe six apples.
