Sophie's always lived a relatively free-willed life as the daughter of the Ashwit family and the nomadic Eflish chief's daughter. She's spent her life studying the nuances of magic and discovering the various vices of the world, much to her father's pleasure and displeasure. Yes, her mother dropped her off and never came back. Yes, the Ashwit family runs a drug cartel, but those are small things. Her wonderful sister Maire can take over the finance records, and her overly-ambitious brother can take over the family business. Or, that's what the plan was.
