Chapter 1 To truck, or not to truck

As I walked down the road I heard it, I saw the headlights. I knew what was coming for me, I'd seen far, far too many anime to not know.

That didn't make me any less afraid as I turned down the alley, the huge bloody truck barrelling past and screeching down a main road. It had missed me, but only by a bit.

I had to run, I had to get to safety. I jumped from alley to alley, eyes scanning. I was almost home. I just had to make it over the train tracks, then I saw them.

The headlights, the headlights that wanted me so badly. A train was speeding down the tracks, if I could just make it over in time I'd be home free. Running with all my might I flew past the tracks, the truck hot on my tail.

I laughed with glee as the train smashed into the truck, cutting it cleanly in half. No death for me today!

Then the top half landed on me, squishing me flat as a pancake.

----------------------------------------

You made a good run, nobody's ever cut me in half before.

I heard the voice in the darkness as I floated, without body, without sense of time.

"So, where do I go from here?" It seemed the question to ask.

Well, normally you'd be off to a zany adventure. Quite possibly with a harem of violent women.

"Normally?" That didn't bode well.

See, every truck has their quota. When we get to our quota, we get a free pick on where we go. So I get to go and choose some neat powers, and what kind of body I want. Also get a choice on what fantasy world I get. It's really nice, a thank-you for my hard work.

"Okay, so what about me?"

Well, someone's gotta take up the job. Welcome my friend, for the next little bit here, you can go by Truck-kun.

"Ah, shit."

That was the last I heard before the voice faded and I opened my... eyes? Headlights? Vision, I could see now.

An image appeared in my mind, a young man in his late teens that looked about as interesting as cardboard. I also got maps, location tracking, and I could see all the people on the roads and buildings around me.

"Alright me," I pumped myself up, "Let's go kill this kid so we can become... I don't know, we'll figure that out on the way." Driving off at breakneck speed felt so natural, so good.
