Chapter 3

[Welcome to the Tower of Immortals]

[Choose a Difficulty. Rewards and Growth Potential will increase with difficulty.]

Alex was half asleep when he saw distorted words hovering before him. He swatted at the pesky light that ruined his sleep.

[Nightmare Difficulty Selected.]

Alex went back to sleep without processing what had just happened.

Alex opened his eyes to find a white ceiling; it took him some time to realise that he wasn't in his room. He slowly got up from the floor and looked around; Alex was a bit disoriented; his mind was fuzzy.

Alex looked around; there was a sitting area with sofas and tables off to the right; and a lot of empty space. There are no doors or windows, despite the room being well-lit.

Alex looked around when he found nothing new, he began shouting to see if there was any response, but after a few minutes, he just sat and waited for whoever kidnapped him to show themselves.

[Portals to Floor 1 will open in 1 Hour]

[Intractive User Interface Activated]

[Forums Access Unlocked]

[Free Attributes Awarded]

Alex had read novels with the system, but he was still surprised and was expecting all this to be some elaborate prank, but deep down, he knew this was all real. The interface was too real to be his imagination or any technology available on earth.

This content has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

Interface he could understand, and he knew what attributes were. The only thing that confused him was the Forums. He read the notifications, and there was little information there.

Forums, as soon as that thought crossed his mind, a window opened in front of him.

[ Forums - Easy 473/473, Normal 107/107, Hard 419/419, Nightmare 1/1 ]

There are a lot more people here; that was the first thought that crossed his mind; Alex started going through the forums. There was the usual confusion; and no information on what this whole situation was about. The forums were just for all the people here to share information and chat, and it was all a bunch of people complaining at the moment.

Since there was nothing much to gain from forums, Alex turned his attention to his stat screen. In his opinion character sheet was very basic.

Name - Alex

Strength - 1

Dexterity - 1

Constitution - 1

Mana Capacity - 1

Mana Control - 1

Mana Regeneration - 1

Skills - None

Attribute Points available - 10

Either Alex was the most average person alive, or everyone started with 1 in all attributes. There wasn't much to look at.

Alex planned to put 1 Point in all the attributes to feel the difference and go from there.

After feeling the changes for some time, he figured out quite a few things; first, all the attributes definitely have hidden sub-stats because strength wasn't just raw power, but his whole body was improved; for example, he could run a lot faster, but without similar constitution stat, he got sore muscles very quickly.

Dexterity removed any stiffness Alex felt by adding strength; the constitution was harder to figure out, increasing the toughness. His skin and bones felt sturdy, and he was sure his weight increased enough to feel the difference.

Mana was still a mystery; after putting 1 point in all three mana stats, he still didn't find any use for it. He could feel it in the air, but no spells or any magic yet, so he left it be until he got more information about it.

After much deliberation, Alex decided to focus on dexterity; it's the safest bet to survive. If he can dodge any attack, it's better than tanking a hit. He added the remaining 4 points into dexterity, bringing it up to 6.

He got a pleasant surprise; there was a massive improvement in his perception and movements, and he could run faster than a car without any effort. The attribute points seem to double in effect with each point which is insane.

He felt superhuman; after a few minutes of ecstatic running, he was brought back to reality with a prompt.

[ Attempt 1, Day 0, 00:00 ]

[ Rest Room Time Available 72 Hours ]

That was unexpected; he expected some god or deity to come along and tell him he had died and could reincarnate into a fantasy world. Guess he has to stop his hopeful daydreaming and face the fucked situation he was in.

He has been ignoring the Nightmare difficulty he has chosen and is the only one here. Deep down, Alex knew there was a real chance he would die, but there was no point in panicking.

He always had muted emotions, which helped him overcome anger, anxiety, stress, etc. quickly. He lived a carefree life because he never let a bad situation bother him for long.

So with resolve and focus, he started walking towards the portal, hovering in the centre of the room.
