...huh?

Where am I?

*Create Character Name:*

...Am I in a game? What the hell is going on?

I can see nothing but black all around me with those words stuck right in the center of my vision. I can't feel my arms or legs, it’s as if I’m just a floating consciousness. Hard as I try, I can’t seem to remember how I got here in the first place. I feel as though I should be far more shocked about this situation but I can’t seem to feel much in this form.

Create a character name? I can’t even remember my own name! Minutes pass by as I wrack my brain trying to come up with a name, anything that seems familiar. Slowly, a familiar name seems to come to me…

...K….Kane..

*Character Name Accepted*

As I hear the autonomous voice finish those words, I start feeling a strange tingling sensation in what I assume is my body. Slowly, I start to feel pins and needles in my arms and legs. Although I can now feel my physical body, everything is still pitch black.

*Character Creation Error*

***System Override***

***System will auto generate the best suitable Character and Class for you***

***Beginning Materialization***

What? A game that won’t let me choose my own character or even class? Although I still can’t remember exactly who I am, I feel like I know games fairly well and that doesn’t seem like a common factor in any game…

Before I could finish that thought, pain shot throughout my head and body. It felt as though I had just belly flopped onto concrete from the top of a 5 story building!

Holy hell, what is happening to me?

I rolled over onto my side and put my arms on my head to try to stop the throbbing headache that just came over me.

...Wait..

Rolled over?

I realized now that I could see light from under my closed eyes. Finally opening my eyes, I took notice of where I was. The light was coming from a glowing crystal above me. The crystal is attached to a cave ceiling and looking down I could see that I’m in a cavern of some sort. The walls were fairly high and it seemed like I was in a fairly large square room and I could make out walls in every direction except straight ahead of me. That direction seemed to be the only way to go, although it led into darkness. Taking in my situation I decided to sit here for a moment and collect my thoughts. First things first. The system said something about picking my character and class? How do I see my cla-

Before I could even finish the thought, a status screen popped up. Woah, trippy.

It wasn’t exactly in my eyesight but more of like a very visible image in my brain. And wow was there a lot of information there.

My class is an Enchanter? What the heck does an Enchanter do?

*Enchanter: Imbues magic into objects to be used passively or activated at will.*

Woah, the autonomous voice is back and it seemed to answer a question I had just thought to myself.. Well how about these ominous sounding “Innate Skills”?

*Innate Skills: Skills the user is born with and have a permanent passive effect. Not the same as Acquired Skills.*

*Keeper of the Dead: Retains a previous life. ***Partially blocked by The System***

*Child of the Void: Created and loved by the Void. Influenced by the Void.*

*Error. ((null)) requirements not met. Unable to inspect innate skill.*

Keeper of the dead is partially blocked by the system? Is that why I can’t remember anything besides my name? Retaining a previous life seems like an odd way to phrase it but I’ll have to figure it out later. Child of the Void is even less informative. Does that mean that the System didn’t bring me here, the Void did? And what does influenced by the void mean?

I waited for the system to answer but nothing happened. Okay...and I can’t even begin to imagine what the ((null)) requirements are, but hopefully it’s something useful to me in the future.

***New Skill Acquired: Inspect lvl 1***

*Inspect: Gives the user information about whatever they use it on. Information given is based on level.*

Oh, okay...So maybe if I level this inspect skill up I can get more information on my skills and what exactly they do. If it works how I think it does then I’ll probably get XP just by using the skill…

*Used skill Inspect*

*Glowing Crystal: A crystal that glows*

*Used skill Inspect*

*Cave Wall: A wall to a cave*

Although the information provided was fairly obvious, I used the skill on everything I could think of around me, in hopes of gaining levels. When I finished, I checked my status screen again.

*Inspect is now lvl 2*

*Inspect is now lvl 3*

I decided to try to inspect my skills once again but I got the same results. I guess only two levels wouldn’t tell me much. I wonder if it would give me more information on my surroundings?

*Used skill Inspect*

*Mana Crystal: A rock that has been purified by mana*

Ooooh, okay! Now we’re getting somewhere! A mana crystal hmmm...Actually my status screen says I have a few stats like HP and MP. I’m guessing they mean Health Points and Mana Points. Stamina seems to be pretty self explanatory. Actually, looking at my stats, I have a lot more mana than I do HP or Stamina. That must mean the enchanter uses mana. Since the System seems to think this was the best choice for me, I better prioritize maximizing stats that help my class. My attributes seem to be higher in INT and WIS...but now the question is how to I level up and raise my stats? In fact, do I even have any skills besides Inspect?

Looking at my status screen, I see now that there is a new tab at the top named “Skills”. Switching to this tab I see the inspect skill and surprisingly, three skills below it that the system never told me about.

-Acquired Skills-

Inspect (lvl 3)

Void Storage (lvl 1)

Graverobber (lvl 1)

Novice Enchant (lvl 1)

Excited, I use inspect on each of these;

*Void Storage: A void capable of storing objects.*

That actually sounds extremely useful! I wonder how much it can store at level 1…

*Graverobber: (subskill from Keeper of the Dead) absorb skills from the dead into yourself.*

Okay that’s not creepy at all. Although it does sound kind of overpowered if you use it right..

*Novice Enchant: The basic tier of enchant, only capable of enchanting the lowest tier spells into crude objects.*

*Inspect is now level 4*

Sweet! Another level on Inspect! And I Novice enchant seems to be useful, however I don’t know what I can enchant or even if any of the skills I have would be useful to enchant onto anything…

Grabbing a nearby rock I decide to test it out.

*Used skill Novice Enchant lvl 1*

*Enchantment: Graverobber failed, skill incompatible with Enchant.*

*Used skill Novice Enchant lvl 1*

*Enchantment: Void Storage failed, skill incompatible with Enchant.*

Well what the hell. Why give me a class to enchant things and then two skills that I can’t use to enchant with?

Forcing myself to move on, I decide to test the limits of Void Storage.

*Used skill Void Storage*

*Rock x1 stored*

A black hole appeared next to me and I put my hand in with the rock. Storing it seems easy enough… now let’s see how many rocks I can store!

After some time, I could find no more rocks in the light around me, time to see what I got!

*Used skill Void Storage*

*Rock x53*

Wow that’s actually quite a bit. Most of those rocks were about the size of my fist to about the size of my head.

Well there’s not much I can do inside this cave, maybe it’s about time I try to find a way out.

Turning back to the one side that isn't blocked by a wall I go to the edge of the light and realise that I won't have any light after I leave this spot. Looking up at the mana crystal, I see its hanging off a stalactite.

I think taking the mana crystal along would be a good idea, but how can I get it down from the stalactite?

Forming an idea, I take a few rocks out of my void storage and start chucking them at the mana crystal.

When one rock finally hits, there’s a loud, almost metallic clank and the rock splits in half and falls to the floor.

***New Passive Skill Acquired: Throwing Mastery lvl 1***

*Throwing Mastery: Every level improves accuracy and power of thrown objects or weapons.*

Sweet! A new skill! Although I’m not sure how useful that will be, it seems that new skills are gained after doing an action similar to the skill. I’m still not sure how it is gained exactly but I’ll have to try multiple things later to see if I can get more skills.

Now back to this mana crystal…It seems that the crystal is way harder than the rocks and I won't be able to break off pieces of it.

However...The stalactite it's attached to seems to have some cracks a little higher up. Maybe if I can hit it just right, I can get the stalactite to fall with the mana crystal.

After what felt like ages, I finally managed to hit the stalactite enough to make the whole thing start to tremble a bit and the cracks start to slowly spread.

*Throwing Mastery is now lvl 2*

*Throwing Mastery is now lvl 3*

…*Throwing Mastery is now lvl 6*

Whew that was a lot of levels, but after throwing for that long, my arm was starting to get tired.

The stalactite finally broke off and crumbled to the ground, along with the mana crystal.

Walking over, I see the stalactite is now in pieces but the mana crystal is still fully intact.

Wow. The fall had to have been over thirty feet and the mana crystal didn't even have a scratch on it. I had hoped to break off a piece of the mana crystal to use as a light but it seems I won't be able to use that strategy. Instead I decided to just store the rubble and the mana crystal in my void storage for now.

*Used skill Void Storage*

*Rock x25*

*Unknown Minerals x16*

*Large Mana Crystal x1*

Huh...the stalactites are apparently made of unknown minerals…

After debating whether or not I should knock a few more down just to have extra, I decide against it since I’m now in the dark and I kind of just want to get out of this cave. Before I stored the mana crystal I made sure I was facing the direction of where I assume the exit was and put my right hand on the cave wall, using it as a guide. The mana crystal itself is too large to reasonably carry around in my hands so I’ll have to just hope I don't run into anything too scary.

It didn’t take long before my foot hit a very steep incline. Feeling around, it seems like the floor turns into a forty-five degree incline. I’ll have to use my hands to help climb up. In the dark, I grab on to one rock after another and start climbing the slope.
