Honk! Honk! Hoooooonk!
“Gosh, I’m gonna be late for work once again today,” calmly said Amy Walter while scratching her forehead.
“Kimberly, honey, can you please get out and tell your brother that, in four minutes, we’re going with or without him?” added William Walter, her husband.
“There’s no way on earth I’m getting out of this car,” replied Kimberly, her eyes glued to her phone’s screen.
“Kimberly!?” shouted Amy.
“OK, OK, sheesh!”
Once out of the car, Kimberly entered their house and started screaming. “Joshua, you moron, I’m coming for your ass!”
“Language, Kimberly!” screamed Amy through the car’s window. “What are we going to do with those two?”
“What can I say, Amy, they’re starting to look more like us.”
“Was that supposed to be a compliment or critic?”
“Both, I’m afraid.”
“Ouch!” cried Joshua while getting dragged by the ear. “Let go of me, stupid.”
“Hurry up, we don’t have one more second to lose,” said William, looking at the car’s clock.
Once they were all in the car and fastened their seatbelts, they took off. It was a beautiful and sunny Thursday morning. The clouds were scarce and dispersed in the sky. The warm and velvet breezes that were blowing on William’s face and roaming throughout the car were promulgating the arrival of summer.
“You guys are way too quiet… How’s everything going back there?” asked William. “Kim, how are your school guitar classes going Kim...?”

Joshua unplugged one of Kimberly’s ears and put one of them in his own ear. He sighed. “Hugh. Justin Bieber again?”
“Your father’s talking to you, Kim. Josh, quit bugging your sister.”
“Oh! It’s going great, Dad,” replied Kimberly. “My music teacher said that I’m good at singing, too.”
“That’s awesome!” exclaimed Amy.
“Yeah, totally,” added William.
“Eww,” said Kimberly.
“What?” asked William.
“You guys can stop talking like you are cool, now. You peeps know nothing about modern music,” she replied.
“Joshua, forget what your mom said earlier. You can bug her all you want.”
“I was joking! Joshua, please, give me my earbud back.”
“How about you Joshua?” asked Amy. “How’s everything going with the sci-fi club?”
“Fine, there you go,” said Joshua as he gave back the earbud to her sister. “Um, it’s OK, I guess, Mom.”
“What’s wrong, Josh? Did something happen? I mean, you’ve been longing to find yourself a crowd, right?” asked William, puzzled about Joshua’s hesitation to give an explicit answer.
“Nothing happened, really. It’s just that, until now, I… I had never realized how much of a nerd I am. It’s almost like I’m the nerdiest of them all.”
“Shocker!” Kimberly added jokingly.
“Well, don’t let it put you down, OK, Josh?” begged the mother.
“Like your mom said,” added William.
“And if anyone tries to hurt you, just let me know, alright, Josh?”
Kimberly’s words acted as a catalyst, establishing the deathly hush that followed inside the car, where everyone kept doing their own thing for a while. This peace lasted only five minutes. Amy checked what time it was on her phone. “I should have been in the office ten minutes ago, and we’re still in the car. Yeap, I’m definitely late.”
