“So what is it with calling me Mushi?”

“Well, Mushroom is such a loong word, so Mushroom, Mushiroom, Mushi. See?”

“But I am not a random mushroom, I am a green Foldicap.”

“You never told me that! And I am not a random rabbit! I am me.”

The Foldicap scrunched in thought.

“So not Rabbi, what about… Frenbit, you are my only friend and a rabbit.”

“No!” The bunny frowned in distaste, “I am more than both these things.”

“…Rabbitant?”

So much had happened since they woke up that they were exhausted, and it was barely past midday. So they just listened to the wind, gazed upon the sky, and talked. It took quite a few names to reach one they that the bunny liked, they went through Rabbichon, Longfeet, Rabbiton, Silkfur, Alissa, Earedgood, Bigjump, Blackwhite, Hungryspore, Wilting grace… until they found something the bunny actually liked.

“There was this big scary tiger that lived close to our burrow. We always made sure to stay as far away as possible from them.”

She continued, “but not knowing what is happening is just as dangerous as being close to a predator. So when I heard a big fight towards their side of the forest I went to investigate. It is important to know if and when a territory changes.”

The Foldicap listened, enthralled. Never would they have ever imagined that the rabbit would sound so… informed, cultured? Not that they blamed them, the Foldicap did receive a great education, everything known by the collective was known to all. Well, almost everything.

“When I finally got to the place where the fight happened, there was nothing there but an empty cave and blood stains. I was too afraid to go into that dark hole, but something in front of it caught my attention. A single blade of grass, but blue. I had never seen something like that before. It was different, and… it tasted really good. I am different, and I don’t want to taste weird. So maybe my name could be blue grass?”

“Blue Grass? Hi Blue Grass. I… like it.”

“Hi. What about your name?”

“Well, I am a Foldicap, so maybe you could just call me that? It’s better than Mushi.”

“No! You are not just a random Foldicap! What about Forecap?”

“Forecap?”

“Since you are a foldicap in my forehead.”

“Absolutely not.”

Blue Grass scrunched up her nose, “your name suggestions were so weird too, maybe… Fellfren?”

“What is a Fellfren?” The Foldicap inclined forwards in cautious curiosity.

“Well… you fell in my had, and you are my friend, my frend. Fellfren”

They were amused, Fellfren? In one hand, having a proper name distinguished themselves from the collective… on the other, however, it meant they were a part of Blue Grass’ life. They wobbled in thought. Maybe they could be both part of the collective and friends with her? Anything else would just be so sad.

“Fellfren it is,” they responded with warmth.

Blue Grass and Fellfren basked in the silence. For the first time since losing their families, they truly believed things would be okay. They were not alone anymore.

But there was only so much daylight, and if they wanted to sleep somewhere that was not a wasted battleground, they would need to move regardless of how tired they were. Not only that, but even if neither knew yet, they were afraid of the hunger they felt.
