Chapter 2 - Anaya

Chapter 2 - Anaya

Anaya waited restlessly in a tree near the border for Kiara to finally come. Usually she could sense when someone came into the forest, but with Kiara...she couldn't. That was why she needed to wait at the edge of the forest for her. It was really odd that no elf could sense her. Not even Anaya's best elf friend, Kida. Who was very attuned to people entering the forest.

The little wooden clock dangling from Anaya's belt showed the time to be 1:03 o'clock. "She should have been here by now!" Anaya thought impatiently and a little worried now.

Kiara was never late, not even when it snowed three feet deep last winter. What if she was in danger? Or her mom found out Kiara was meeting with an elf? What if one of the other elves found her and-"boo!!" Anaya jumped and was so startled she turned into a red wolf, and promptly fell out of the tree.

"oh my gosh, Anaya are you okay!!!" Kiara asked, her voice full of concern.

"Kiara Mustvita Jones, you snuck up on me?" Anaya demanded as she shifted back to normal.

"that's still not my full name" she said, grinning widely, and looking a little relieved. Knowing that if I could make up a fake name for her on the spot, I was fine.

"how did you sneak up on me anyway Kia?" Anaya said, using her favorite nickname for Kiara. "I'm a Woodshift elf, it's supposed to be me who's great at sneaking up on you."

This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it

"and you are, went your not an open target yourself that is." Kiara said, still grinning as she held out her hand for Anaya to take. She did, using Kiara to pull herself up. "besides, you're the one who taught me how to speak up one people. So this is just a testament to your training." Kiara said, her smile refusing to break.

"I don't know if I remember me being on the list of people you were going to sneak up on, but good job anyway, you really got me. " I said rolling my eyes, at her futile attempt of covering up the fact that she absolutely loves to sneak up on people. But I was actually impressed. I had been taught how to sneak up on people by the time I was five, animals when I was seven, and dragons when I was eight. Sneaking up on me was.... Amazing.

"so what do you want to do now Anaya?" Kiara asked.

At this I smiled a mischievous smile that was well know to mean that we were about to do something...interesting. "Oh, nothing much. Just sneaking up on something that my powers have no effect on, where using them will only get us into trouble."

"And what's that?" Kiara asked cautiously.

I answered casually, knowing I was about to get a very satisfying reaction from Kiara. "Oh, nothing much, just a dragon." I was right. Her reaction was priceless.
