Epilogue (Adventure Awaits Part III)

Commander Wilhelm is a renowned soldier of the Republic, his deeds and his unmatched skill in swordsmanship is what promotes him in his current position now. He also earned the title of strongest warrior in the Republic when he was still an adventurer. Now that he’s nearing the end of his prime he decided to retire but every time he brought it up to the higher ups, he was always ignored or rejected but this time it's different. Commander Wilhelm in his last mission as a Commander has been assigned to find the missing Towers’ kid who has been missing for a day, and it is normal for government officials to be assigned into this kind of job specifically when the nobles are involved but if its a normal kid no one’s really going to care and put too much effort on recruiting a retiring commander. “What a low grade job for a retiring commander, a missing kid for one day really? one day? Nobles really are a weird bunch of people, well, its my last job anyways plus finally they approved my resignation and an additional pension, not bad when you really think about it.” Wilhelm thought as he was about to order the soldier that was given to his command. “Listen up! You are to look for any kid that resembles the second son of Lord Towers, here are the sketches, memorize them, make good use of that small brain you have.” Wilhelm said. “The first group will be led by Captain Larsen and to be assigned and divided to the four gates of the Inner District, no one will get in or out without looking at their faces, the second group will be led by Captain Lott and will disperse around the Middle District and be discreet. I don’t want it to be headline news tomorrow, the third group will be led by Captain Dana, similar to Captain Larsen’s groups mission however instead of the Inner Gates you will be assigned to the four gates of the Middle District, the fourth group will be led by Captain Percy, similar to Captain Lott’s groups mission however instead of Middle District you will be dispersed in the Lower District; I don’t want to repeat this, discretion and finally, I will personally lead the last group, we are going to the slums, we are to disguise ourselves as adventures and infiltrate that disgusting place.” He clarifies. “Do I make myself clear!?” he added. “SIR! YES! SIR!” answers with a deafening shout and conviction by the soldier of The Republic. As the soldiers began to go to their assigned place, a humanoid figure hiding in the near dark alley suddenly disappeared. “I must be seeing things” Wilhelm though.

Upon arriving at the slums, Commander Wilhelm’s team started to disperse around the area to cover a lot of ground in searching for the missing Towers’ kid. Wilhelm started his search in areas which have less people mostly because he just hates conversing. He prefers actions than talking. But his choice was either coincidental or just pure luck.

With a sudden flash of a light followed by the rush of a strong breeze of air the silhouette of the man in the door disappeared then a fountain of blood was sprayed all around El as if he was splashed with a bucket of water. His vision went around his hands, body and then his feet, all covered in blood but no wounds that would cost that much blood, he looked at Kit lying on the floor also covered in blood, he looked unconscious but no visible wounds. Then suddenly it hit him; he is standing on the ground, but he does not remember being put down by the bandit then his eyes deviated to the bandit’s location. No hair, ears, eyes or any features that resemble a head, it’s just two necks spraying blood all over the place. As El turns around, the silhouette of the towering man previously at the door is now standing behind him sheathing his long sword with no sign of blood at all, then El’s vision began to blur, his exhaustion finally kicked in within seconds and he lost his consciousness.

El’s consciousness is now returning slowing, his peaceful breathing quickly turns to quick paces as he was met with a smell that is different from the dusty musk of the dark room he was confined, to a lilac and leather scent that he is strangely familiar with. The floor does not emit any coldness like ice but warmth like morning, sunlight, this feeling of change makes El burst out of his peaceful slumber, and he was greeted by a familiar background. His eyes are met by walls of blue familiar color not dark as the ocean but also not light as the sky surrounded by a painting of a gray tower with a single window, then it hit him, this is the sigil of his house, House Towers. Another feeling he cannot fathom is that the constant shaking of this room making him a bit uncomfortable, at that moment he realized this room is moving, no this is not a room but a carriage. He feels dumb not realizing it sooner then and there he remembers what just happened before all of this and he tries to look outside of the window of the carriage. He was met by a strong cold breeze of wind rushing to his face and with his vision he could see the busy street of an unfamiliar place. This must be the Lower District he presumed. The architecture is similar to the Middle District but simpler and unrefined he thought; there are also more people around more diverse and noisier than the Middle District nonetheless it’s more entertaining than the previous ones. “So you're awake young lord?” asked by a deep, strong but quite old voice. El turned his head toward where the voice is coming from and met by a somewhat familiar figure riding as dark as night, beautiful black horse adorned by an elegant saddle worthy of praise. “I presumed you are the one who rescued me my lord?” asked by a still confused El. “I am no lord, you can call me Wilhelm and yes I have the honor of rescuing you young lord.” “A man riding such an exquisite horse must be of high birth, no need to be humble Lord Wilhelm, in addition I thank you for rescuing me” replied elegantly by El, such as high birth must always do El remembers. Wilhelm was surprised by the reply of this young kid even though he was kidnapped and tortured. There is no bitterness in the kids' voices nor arrogance. He will grow into such a fine lord, Wilhelm ponders. He feels pity he can’t serve him. “You got me there young lord, but I am just a humble commoner who got lucky and was promoted to a commander but that was a long time ago, now I am about to retire there is no need to use and call me commander anymore” replied by an amused Wilhelm. “But as of now you are still a Commander right, I will still call you by that, before I forget Commander Wilhelm as far I know there is a kid with me? Do you have any idea where he is? Might I ask?” El inquiries. “You do not need to worry my young lord he is being tended to by the healer on the other carriage, do you know who he is? For security reasons of course” Wilhelm replied. “I do not know him for that long but he tried to rescue me and I am indebted to him as I am with you so I’m asking, what would happen to him after he’s been healed?” El answered. “May I be honest with my young lord?” Wilhelm asked. “Yes you may, Commander” El quickly replied. “Well as you know he is from the slums, so bringing him to the Inner District is not at all possible. However, for his young lord conscience, I am willing to adopt him and raise him as a proper citizen of the Republic” Wilhelm offers. “Really!?” replied by El losing his composure. “With a condition of course” replied by Wilhelm with a smirk on his face. “What condition my Lord Commander?” answer by El trying to gain back his composure. “As you know I am planning to retire, I’m reaching the end of my prime yet the Triumvirate is not keen on giving me that. I know it for sure, even though they promise me when they offer this mission. I need someone who has great connections to help me with this predicament of mine.” explained by the Commander. “I get it Lord Commander, I might have the answer to your predicament but then again I think you already knew that” El said. “As I presumed you really are smart young lord. So we have a deal then?” Wilhelm asked. “May you ensure to me that you will treat him as your own?” El replied with a request. “I will be completely honest with you young lord, I don’t like children that is why I did not take a wife however I assure you I might not treat him as my own but I will treat him better than he has ever been treated before.” Wilhelm assured El. “Then it is a deal then “former Commander” and thank you.” El thankfully answered. “No, thank you my young lord.” Wilhelm replied. As the conversation of the young lord and the retired commander ends, the carriage proceeds towards its planned course to its destination passing many buildings of the Lower District and its busy people to the welcoming gate of the black walls passing the busting Middle District and thru the grandiose gate of the Inner District where the path will end.

As the carriage enters the Inner Wall gates, a hooded figure who is silently following the carriage suddenly disappears into the dark alley behind the towering buildings of the Middle District. Through there the figure moves a crate away from its resting place where there is what looks like a trap door. The hooded figure opened and then enters the trap door where he was met by the blinding darkness, then a faint light appears as the figure lights his rusty lantern, the figure then navigates this dark underground maze with ease and reaches his destination in front of a rusty iron door. The figure knocks on the door in a rhythmic sequence and suddenly, a tiny window opened, and a voice was heard, the figure hears what a series of coded messages and he answers in return. The rusty iron doors open, and he was welcomed by a stench of alcohol, smoke and tavern-like music from inside of the room. The room is filled with many different people having fun, yet the figure has no time for any of that and he ignored the people having fun. The Figure proceeds to the bartender and asks a series of riddles, the bartender then replies with answers then guides the figure to the back door behind the counter. The figure enters the room alone, the stench of alcohol and smoke was gone and replaced by the scent of roses and incense, the raw wooden wall was covered by beautiful décor and expensive paintings. In the center of the room is a table carved in from a special expensive wood, on the top of that table was a stack of important looking papers and a series of well stacked golden coins, and in the chair behind the expensive table seated a shadowy figure only lighted by the magical tinted light emitting from a beautiful glass lantern on the walls. “The kid successfully breached the inner wall, Mi Lord” the hooded figure speaks. “Good, very good. Now we wait” The shadowy figure replied with a deep voice leaving a faint wicked smile.
