Prologue

We were so young when we first met. It started with only myself and Pyri; I suppose it was then that the disapproval began. A duke’s daughter is not supposed to consort with an aristocrat’s daughter: according to the titled nobility, the merchant nobility is unfit companionship for anyone, much less a young noblewoman. We didn’t care.

Pyrenna Whiterock, or Pyri, quickly became my best friend. We were opposites in every way, but I delighted in our spontaneous adventures even if I wouldn’t show it. Our friendship was seemingly random; we had run into each other - literally - one day on the street. We quickly established a rapport (the way young children always seem to) and began spending all of our free time in each other’s company.

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

We knew we’d have to fight if we wanted to stay together; especially if we allowed anyone else to join, which we did. We ignored court opinions for years, until things came crashing down on us and we realized that something had to be done. Something had to change, and we knew it wouldn’t be us.
