Prologue: The Crimson World

Screams of pain and groans of agony pierced the air mixed in with cries of mercy and desperation for it all to end. The sounds were very human which could cause any sane man to tremble in fear for the creatures guilty of the noises were not human. Instead the humanlike noises came from a mountain of corpses made up of lions, snakes, boars and many more creatures.

The iron scent emitted from the corpses traveled through the air where the scent made its way to a boy around the age of twelve who stood at the very foot of the mountain made of corpses. The child stood in an ocean of blood frozen in fear and confusion.

Afraid something would hear him if he made a noise, the boy chose to maintain his silence. Standing still, he took the time to observe his surroundings. Taking in the scene around him allowed the boy to realize that the mountain in front of him wasn't the only mountain of corpses as eight others stood around him greeting him with the same pleas. The only difference the boy could discern was the mountain in front of him was the tallest mountain, as he couldn't see the top of the mountain that was hidden by an abundance of red clouds that barred his view, only allowing a blurry view of the top.

After a minute of standing in silence with no signs of life aside from the constants shrieks and groans coming from the dead creatures, the boy decided to move, hoping he could find a way out. The plan quickly changed once he realized he didn't have the ability to move. The boy attempting to move let out a few grunts to accompany the screams and shouts. After a few minutes of attempts, the boy gave up with a sigh of frustration, tears gathering in his eyes at the thought of death coming for him. Trying to calm himself, he took a couple of deep breaths. His breathing session echoed through the crimson world before he attempted another escape leading to his grunts to travel through the silence.

The boy abruptly put a stop on what he was doing to listen to his surroundings.

Silence

The boy heard nothing but his breathing and beating heart that was increasing in speed. The cries, the groans, the screams all of it gone. Silence was all that greeted the boy and that terrified him more than the noises from before.

Suddenly a squelch was heard from the mountain in front of the boy. The boy's eyes filled with fear scanned the mountain of corpses and quickly spotted a human figure with its back facing him, making its way up the mountain. Although it appeared human, the boy didn't want to take the chance and instead chose to observe the mysterious figure. After every step the figure took, a squelch or groan would follow. When a groan was heard the figure would halt and stare down at the creature that produced the noise as if it was angered that it dared to make noise in its presence before it would continue its journey up the mountain. It was as if the figure demanded silence.

And the boy was willing to follow as he didn't make a move or utter a sound the moment he laid eyes on the figure. The boy kept his eyes on the shrinking figure as it passed through the red clouds and still chose to remain silent. After what felt like a lifetime of squinting past the red clouds , the boy was able to pick up movement at the top of the mountain. The figure appeared to have reached the top and simply stood there before clouds blocked the boys vision. Suddenly after a few moments of nothing, the red clouds quickly dispersed allowing the boy to see that the figure no longer had its back towards him but was instead facing him. The boy froze as he locked eyes with the mysterious figure's crimson colored eyes.
