Chapter 6: A Battle of Heroes

A/N: Hey guys, author here! Just wanted to say a few things to clear some stuff up! About Azuel's past. For that I am sorry. When I originally posted the 1st chp, I had thought I had taken the part about him being raised in a orphanage out since I wanted to take a different approach. Unfortunately, I didn't and it caused some of you readers confusion. I have no taken that portion of chp 1 out. Once again sorry....

One more thing, I would like thank CPT. Ratchet for PRing this chp for me. You will probably find less mistakes on here then when I PR it myself ahaha. Well once again thanks for the reviews and comments! Enjoy the new chp!

‘One mile….. eight hundred and fifty feet, four hundred feet, one hundred and fifty feet…. holy shit this guy is moving fast!’

Azrael paled at how quickly the person approached their location. As they neared, the ground even began to shake due to the force of their footstep. He shivered just at the thought of how strong someone had to be so that they could make the shake.

By now, Byrael had also noticed the person approach. He could tell immediately that the approach person was at least Hero Rank. There was no way that they could beat someone at that level right now. Even if there had been one hundred emperor levels here, they’d still be no match for this person. As a person rose in ranks, the disparity between each rank slowly grew.

The reason that Byrael had been able to take care of the nine Soldiers had been because of the gap in rank. The only reason that he fell into a bad situation was because of the mage. Mages, even though they did not have as much physical abilities as warriors, were stronger than their counterparts in the same rank. It was said that a mage could typically defeat a warrior up to one whole rank over them.

Even though this showed how strong mages were, it also showed the difficulties for a mage to achieve a higher rank. If a warrior usually took ten years to rise in one rank, it took two to three times the length and hard work for a mage! Unlike warriors who could make up somewhat for their lack in talent with physical abilities, it was impossible for mages. If they were born with no talent, they would not be able to rise in rank.

“Well, look what we have here?”

“”?!?!””

As the sudden voice reached his ears, Byrael immediately turned to the west. Coming out of the forest was a tall figure. Azrael, who had already sensed his aura from a while ago, had noticed the man’s arrival.

The man that came out was very large. With his burly frame standing at six foot five inches, he had muscles that bulged out of the armor he wore. With only a breastplate with an emblem of the sword on, his exposed biceps were as big as Azrael’s own head! The man had spiky red hair with slanted dark brown eyes, giving him a fierce look. On his back, a large great sword was sheathed within arm’s reach.

“Chet, I was wondering who had taken out all the men I had sent out. It was only you and that child... Even though you don’t look so strong and that child being so young, to be able to wipe out a one hundred man raiding party….”

“….”

‘The raiding party was already wiped out? Even though the men I taught aren’t weaklings it would still be impossible for them to route the enemy so fast…. Just who was it then?! ‘

At the new information, Byrael attempted to determine what happened. He knew the strength of the Soldiers here best, he taught the majority of them after all. He determined it that wasn’t his men who took the enemy raiding party out but an outside factor. The man sighed when no replies was given by either of the two and reached back to pull out his great sword.

“It’s not like I had a close relationship with those Soldiers or anything since I was put in charge of them for this mission….. But since you were the one that wiped them out I still got to take your lives… Don’t resent me for it ok?”

“”!!””

Both father and son went on guard at the large man‘s words, They both knew that even if they worked together, the existence in front of them was too strong to handle. When Byrael was about to tell his son to get the rest of the family and run while he tried to hold the man off as long as he could, a female voice suddenly appeared from behind them.

“My my, Lindall, you are quite the hasty fellow huh?”

“Who’s there?!”

Startled by the hidden voice, Lindall took as defensive position as his searched his surroundings for the hidden foe. Azrael turned around and looked at the large oak tree behind him. From the shadow of the tree, a very beautiful lady appeared.

The lady had a slender figure standing at five foot four inches. With her long purple hair and hazel eyes, her face had a youthful yet mature look to it. Her sky blue dress fit her body nicely, exposing her alluring curves. Noticing Azrael looking at her, she winks and then walks forward.

“!!! Asa! You should be in the capital what are you doing here?!”

Lindall’s face contorted in anger at the sight of Asa. The lady who had suddenly appeared was someone not to be messed with. Even though Lindall in his own right was one of the strongest warriors on the continent that had reached Hero rank, Asa herself was a Hero Rank earth mage. Asa and Lindall had met on the battlefield numerous times during skirmishes between the two Kingdoms.

“Ho ho…. You just have bad luck Lindall. Who knew that you would dare try something as petty as a raid while I came down here on his Majesty’s order?”

‘Shit, what filthy horrible luck.’

Without a hint of hesitation, LIndall rushed toward Asa. When fighting against mages, if you couldn’t close the distance immediately, you were as good as dead in fight against a mage with the same rank. With eyes that were filled with rage, he roared.

With all thoughts of Byrael and Azrael pushed toward the back of his mind, he sped past them. In the blink of an eye, he closed the distance with Asa and swung his sword down in an overhead slash. To Azrael, even though he had tried focusing on his movements, all he could really see was blur. LIndall was too fast! The great sword that seemed like it weighed hundreds of pounds was swung down with a lightning flash speed! He couldn’t help but hold his breath in amazement.

At the sight of Lindall’s rush, Byrael immediately picked up his son and went toward their family. Azrael went along as he watched Lindall. He believed that even if he still had his body from his previous life, this man would be a little faster than him. He had never seen anyone who could match his speed in his old life or even here until now. Well….that doesn’t mean that he couldn’t beat him but nonetheless it was very impressive.

Asa continued to stay still as she watched Lindall swing his sword down with a smile upon her face. Even though Lindall became suspicious, it was too late to stop the blow and he kept went through with it. Just as the sword was about to reach Asa, however, Lindall felt a presence above him and without any hesitation jumped backwards just before a silhouette leapt down.

In the place Lindall had just been, a large feline stood. With green fur and brown stripes, it seemed to be able to meld perfectly into the forest’s surroundings. The feline had large muscles bulging throughout its body and was snarling at Lindall. Once he saw the feline, his face paled.

“Yo….You’re able materialize your elemental?! And a forest tiger at that?!”

While Byrael attempted to get his family to flee, Azrael stood in place, immersed in the fight. He became astonished when he heard what Lindall said. In the books that he had read, it had stated that it took a very pure and a numerical astronomical amount of mana to be able to keep an elemental materialized. Just how long has she had her elemental materialized for that trap?

Elementals, even though they took forms of beasts, were several times stronger than their counterparts. A Forest Tiger was no matched for an elemental that took the same shape. This was one the main reasons that high rank mages were so fearsome compared to warriors with the same rank. Since their mana’s purity and capacity was much higher, they were able to materialize their elementals much sooner.

Lindall, at the sight of Asa’s materialized elemental, knew that he was outmatched by her and fled. Even though he was fearsome and a renowned warrior, he wasn’t an idiot who would fight a battle that he knew would lose. Even though he couldn’t win, Asa wouldn’t be able to defeat him while he was fleeing.

“Lindall, when have you become such a coward that you would flee from a battle?! Come back here!”

At the sight of the fleeing Lindall, Asa was shocked. She would have never thought that he would flee from a battle. The shock, however, soon changed to anger and she rushed after Lindall with her elemental.

Even though Byrael became relieved when the two Hero Rank warrior and mage left, he didn’t let his guard down and urged his family back. When he saw Azrael dazzled by the battle, however, Byrael couldn’t help but chuckle. He remembered the first time he had seen a battle between Hero Rank mages years ago and he had been just as mesmerized. Unfortunately, however, it wasn’t the time for that and they needed to flee to the safety of their home.

“Azrael! We need to go home, now!”

“Hu..huh? Oh okay dad!”

As he came to, Azrael hurriedly grabbed Aurora and Azer’s hands while they all rushed to their home. At the fastest speed they could travel with the twins, Byrael and Azraellet let out a sigh of relief as they finally reached their home thirty minutes later.

After putting the two twins to bed, Azrael came back down and sprawled on the ground. A smile came to Byrael’s face as he Azrael sprawl out. While he looked at his son, however, he recalled the fact that his son had used magic earlier.

“Hey Azrael.”

“Yes dad?”

“So why did you hide that you could use magic?”

Azrael sighed when he heard the question. All along, he knew he wouldn’t be able to hide it for forever. He was, after all, interested in going to learn magic at an academy. Being with a loving family, however, made him want to stay together with them for just a little longer.

Now that he had used it though, he figured he might as well spill the beans. He didn’t want to lie to his parents who cared for him so much.

“Hey dad, could you call mom over? Might as well tell you both.”

Byrael nodded and went over to the kitchen to get Azela. Shortly afterwards, the two came back together. When all three of them had sat down, Azrael began to speak.

“Hey dad, mom. Just like you figured out just now, I am able to use magic.”

Azela nodded her head. She wasn’t an idiot, even she could tell that her son had used magic back at the lake. Still, she was inwardly shocked that her son was a mage. Mages, after all, were a lot rarer than warriors and if they had enough talent, could easily rise to become an influential figure.

“Anyways, the reason that I kept it from the both of you was that I was afraid that you might send me away immediately to the some magic academy or something…. I didn’t want to leave this house and our family so soon…”

Byrael and Azela’s chest grew very warm when they heard the explanation. Their son, who had always been such an outstanding older brother to his younger siblings and child to them, had been scared to part with them. What kind of parents wouldn’t be moved by that?

After a few moments of silence, Byrael began to laugh.

“Hahahaha… sorry son. I really am touched that you wanted to stay with us so much that you hid your magic abilities…bu..*pfft*….but the thing is that you don’t take a qualification test for a magic academy until you become eleven years old and then attend when you’re twelve!”

Azrael’s face blanked at the news. It was like that? When he thought more closely about it, he noticed that none of the books he had read had told him how people attended magic academies and that he had just made an assumption. As he berated himself for the mistake, he joined into the laughter with his dad. His mother shook her head with a smile on her face as if she’s wondering what she is going to do with the two of them.

Byrael finally stopped laughing a few minutes later and asked his son a final question.

“Son, what is your element anyways?”

“Oh yeah, I never mentioned that, huh? Wait one moment dad, mom”

As he said that, Azrael began to speak with his elementals.

Samjoko, Chunyong, Bonghwang, please come out in ethereal form.

Are you sure, master? It is most unwise to let others know what type of elemental you have.

No worries, Chunyong. If I can’t trust my parents, then just who can I?

…Understood master.

In front of Azrael, three smoky substances with three different color began to appear.
