Chapter 2-Bonding with a Storm spirit

Chapter 2-Bonding with a Storm spirit

I reached out into the box with my right hand and grabbed the Storm spirit.

I raised my hand out of the box and opened my palm. Even though it was just a spinning ball of wind I felt like it was staring at me, observing me so that it could see if I'm fit to be the one it bonded with.

After a few seconds the Strom spirit shrank down and became about 20 times smaller before coming into contact with the surface of my skin and seemingly dispersing.

However in that moment I felt a surge of energy in my palm which went up my arm, into my chest and then spreading through my entire body.

The Storm spirit was now fused with my elemental core. Every living being had an elemental core inside of them but the elemental cores of humans had no element inside them. They were empty. But by bonding with an elemental spirit a human could fuse their empty elemental core with the spirit and turn it into a core of one of the 3 elements.

In order to test out my abilities I sent my spirit a command to expel some energy into my body. It followed my command and I refined the chaotic energy in my body. I then looked at my open palm and with a bit of focus managed to create a small sphere of wind that floated above it.

Satisfied I stopped focusing and the sphere dispersed almost instantly. I then turned around and walked back to my room while the elder continued calling out the names of students.

...

As I closed the door to my room I laid down on my bed and closed my eyes. I wasn't trying to fall asleep. I was trying to communicate with my spirit. By focusing their thoughts a cultivator could send them to their spirit. Mainly to give them commands but also to communicate with them. Spirits couldn't talk unless they were extremely powerful so this was the only way the cultivator and the spirit could communicate.

"Hello are you there?" I asked my spirit by sending it a question.

I heard a light voice coming from within my body.

"I'm here." the spirit answered.

I was relieved that my spirit was willing to communicate with me. I once again focused my thoughts and communicated with my spirit.

"Now that we are bonded I feel like I should know your name if you have one. If you don't have a name I can make one for you. What do you say? You don't mind?"

"I don't have a name so you can come up with one for me." my spirit replied.

I started thinking of several names for my spirit. After a few seconds I finally focused my thoughts once again.

"Do you like the name Will?" I asked.

"I like it." he replied.

I stopped talking with Will and started thinking about other important things. I was now a cultivator. I could be assigned important tasks by the sect and I even held small power within the sect. Of course the more I accomplish and the more powerful I become the greater my power in the sect will become.

I had a goal. A dream. It was to become the leader of this sect and lead it to glory. My sect was called the Moon Flower Sect and it was on the weaker side of sects. We were once a part of a larger sect called the Heavenly Wheel Sect but it broke apart into several smaller sects after a series of internal conflicts.

I wanted to raise the power of the Moon Flower Sect to the same level as the Heavenly Wheel Sect and then make it even stronger then that.

All sects were split into a tiering system which measured the power they had. Tier 1 was the lowest and contained the weakest sects while Tier 7 contained the strongest sects. The Moon Flower Sect was in the middle of Tier 1 while the Heavenly Wheel Sect was high in Tier 4 during it's prime.

I made a promise to myself to turn the Moon Flower Sect into a Tier 7 sect and rule over as it's leader.

I knew from the beginning that this was a nearly impossible task. But it wasn't impossible. The only thing limiting me was my own power so I had to cultivate my power and the power of the other people in the sect in order to achieve my goal.

The way a cultivator becomes stronger is by having their spirit absorb weaker spirits and become stronger and if the spirit becomes stronger so does the cultivator.

Both spirits and cultivators were also ranked by the same seven tiered system used to measure the power of a sect.

Will is only a Tier 1 spirit right now so I simply have to go and find other Tier 1 Storm spirits for him to absorb. There was only one place where such a large number of spirits could be found. The Frontier.

The Frontier was a term used to refer to all the areas between different sects. This included forests, deserts, snowy mountains, volcanos and many other habitats. Spirits of all kinds could be found in the Frontier but the Frontier was a dangerous place so certain rules had to be put in place for anyone wanting to explore the Frontier.

The distance you could venture into the frontier was limited by your tier. A Tier 1 cultivator such as myself could only venture 2 kilometers into the Frontier. Each tier of cultivation expanded this distance by 5 kilometers but Tier 7 cultivators could go as far as they want.

A cultivator must report to the sect every time they want to venture into the Frontier. If a cultivator doesn't return after 2 weeks of being out in the Frontier they are deemed deceased unless they specified the specific amount of time they would be gone.

Lastly. The rules of the sect don't apply in the Frontier. The cultivators could kill and steal as much as they want so the Frontier is lawless place filled with danger which is also the reason why people who recently became cultivators, such as myself, weren't allowed to venture into the Frontier until their first 2 weeks as cultivators passed.
