Electric Eventuality. Chapter 5

Chapter 5

Electa woke up early, it was five am and she had already packed all her belongings, save for the black box which she had once again set on the floor and sat before. Alright System, what is this box?

Should I be glad or offended that I wasn’t chosen but just randomly selected, probably glad. I wouldn’t want to be on the radar of anyone powerful. What do I do with the box now tho? Unsure what to do with it, Electa decided to pack the box and bring it with her. She left the apartment with an overstuffed backpack and time to spare.

Finding a place to stay for the first night was trivial, hotels were abundant, finding a new home however, was not. Electa was visiting another housing agency when she received another notification.

I guess I need to stop messing around with a house for now, not sure what happens when this initialization is done, but I should probably give it my best showing. Electa left the housing agency and scanned the street, trying to decide what to do. So far I have Running, Cleaning and Hand to Hand Combat for skills and for traits I have Resilient and fucking Obediant. What else could I get, stealth?

Setting her backpack before her Electa fished out a ballcap, it wasn’t perfect but it would make her hair less noticeable while blending in with the people around her. Slipping the hat on she picked a random person on the street and began to follow them. Electa followed the man at a distance, close enough to see him but not so close he would notice immediately. She had learned when she was first starting to tail people that as soon as you thought about following someone you stopped acting natural, even if she were just walking down a street she would become too paranoid and draw people's attention with her stiffness. She had learned to curb the instinct to stop when her target would be able to see her, the trick to hiding in plain sight was to act like you belonged there. The man paused once to peer into a window, Electa continued walking right past him and stopped at a different window pretending to browse until the man was moving again, none the wiser.

Ha! Alright, this rank: pending thing. Maybe I should try to use the skills more so they will get a better rank? I guess I could sneak around following people for a while and then get into a bar fight tonight to raise hand to hand? It’s not like I have anyone to train with right now, Kirk is useless in a fight and Jenny wont wake up until this afternoon.

She picked a new target and started to follow them.

Arriving at The Broken Bottle that evening, Electa found herself at a table drinking a glass of beer while she waited for Kirk to show up. She hadn’t received any more notifications during her practice tailing people, but she hoped it would help when the timer ended. The bar was busy as usual and even after scaring off a few people who tried to sit at her table with a glare she ended up with company, at least she knew these men. They were a crew she had worked with a couple of times, a rough group of people that mostly took the kind of jobs that left blood on the floor, but they were also the kind of people that would watch your back on a job.

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

“Erd ya got the boot from yer hole in the wall Electa, Mouse was doin is rouns an saw the sign.” Brick was a behemoth of a man. He was close to seven feet tall, wide enough for three men, but all heavy muscle. He was the heavy hitter for this crew and would tell anyone who asked he was named Brick because running into him was like running into a brick wall.

“Corpos, you know how it goes Brick. Ill be set up somewhere on a beach this time tomorrow.

“Hmph, an I’ll be a king.” Brick replied before Silver added.

“If you want to hire us, we can teach someone a lesson for you! We’ll do it at the family rate, ten percent higher than normal!” Silver winked before turning back to watch the stage. A pair of girls were there, Electa didn’t think that it was really a dance, but the men in the bar sure liked it.

“Nah, I’ll pay the lackey a visit myself later, should be an easy job.” The front door swung open and Kirk walked in wearing his same grey suit, tie and satchel as yesterday. “Speaking of work, looks like a job just walked in the door. Later guys.” Electa slugged back her drink before getting up to wave at Kirk. He nodded, glasses sliding down his nose, before he pushed them back up and headed for the counter.

“Back available Bert?”

“Not sure, you havn’t even ordered a drink yet kiddo.”

“Two then, is the back open?”

“Such a rush, yeah its open but it’s reserved in a half hour, make it fast.” Bert made a motion towards the back room as he rushed to the other end of the counter with a drink and before he started pouring more.

The room had been rearranged since the night before, but Kirk simply plopped his satchel down on the table now located against a wall before rolling a barrel over for himself and pulled out his laptop. “Looks pretty straight forward, best bet is the find him at the club, you can play the smitten lady act, once your close ill make a distraction, you upload a bug to his phone and we get out.” Kirk pulled up the blueprints to the club.

“Your idea is for me to fawn all over this guy? How many times have we tried that for it to fail?”

“Yup, it never works out that way, they are always suspicious of you. Yet, somehow you always get the job done.” Kirk started pointing out entrances as he talked, “Guards are all over the doors of this place. Information file says the place is invite only. Ill leave getting in up to you, once in you head for the second floor. Hek has a private booth here.” He pointed to a spot next to a balcony overlooking the first floor. “I’ll head to the dance floor where he can see and get his attention. I'll upload the bug to your transmitter now and then all you have to do is have his phone scan your chip.”

Electa extended her right hand to Kirk, implanted in the back side of it was an NFC chip that Kirk had put in for her specifically for jobs like this. He pulled a small scanner device from his satchel before plugging it to his computer and scanning her hand. “Uploading, and good.”

“And if he has his phone reader turned off?”

“Then make sure you grab his phone while it's unlocked so you can turn it on.” Kirk smirked at her, knowing full well that this was just one extra layer of difficulty. “You’ve got the bug, i've got the distraction and all the work after you get to his phone. All that's left is for you to figure out how to get us into this club.

“Sure, leave me the easy part. I’ll scout it out tomorrow. Tonight I'm feeling like a fight or two.”

“Ha, alright, that will make for a good show.” Kirk packed up his laptop and made for the door. “Gotta work off steam from the apartment situation?”

“Something like that.” Electa responded. The two left the back room and ordered another pair of drinks from Bert while Electa scanned the crowd. “Hey, Jenny is here.” Electa pointed to the other side of the bar where Jenny was backed against a wall, a burly man stood over her. “And I get to fight, it seems.” Electa pushed her way past the crowd until she was close enough to hear the man.

“Now listen here,” the man was saying, “you're just a whore and I’m going to put you to work. Come with me.” The man grabbed Jenny’s wrist turning to drag her behind him, a knife appeared in Jenny’s other hand but Electa caught her eye. Shaking her head before the knife was put to use, Electa walked up to the man and slapped him. She could have just punched him, but a slap was so much more infuriating and she wanted a good fight.

“Jenny said no, you want her, you’re going to have to fight me for her.”

“Haha, I don’t fight little girls. I’ll be taking this bitch out back for a ride and you’re getting out of my way.”

“Coward,” Electa grinned as she provoked the man before turning to the stage and hopping up as the two girls dancing stared at her. “Sorry ladies, but that coward over there.” Electa’s voice raised to a shout as she pointed to the man, “has laid insult to my friend and has refused my challenge.” The bar grew quiet as her voice rang out, the crowd parted leaving an open path between the man and the stage. “Would you mind terribly if I borrow the stage, I’m hoping he will grow a pair instead of being too scared to fight a girl.” The two dancers scrambled off the stage away from Electa. The man’s face went red as he glared up at her, with a roar he charged and jumped, landing on the stage.

“Have it your way girlie.” The man’s fist swung forward, fast.
