Chapter 4: Child’s Curiosity [2]

The little abyssal could not help but salivate as he felt the contours of the innumerable trees and plants. He then smelled the lovely fragrance that comes from the fruits, and the thought of devouring the fruits immediately dominated his mind as he hurriedly crawled to climb the nearest tree.

He then tried to climb up, searching for places he could use to help him reach the delightful fruits that awaited at the branches of the tree.

The young abyssal spends some time looking before discovering some sprouting barks, which he exploits to ascend. The weight of the baby abyssal is not so heavy, making his weight nearly insignificant, despite the fact that it could appear as though it would break off the tree if he did that. Furthermore, this tree is much stronger than one might anticipate. In order to survive the environment, unique soil, water, and nonexistent sun from the atmosphere—one of the sources of nutrition for plants—this tree was bio-engineered by the great minds of the abyss.

The ascent has become easier due to some occasional small branches that grow from the trees. Excitement rose deep within the young abyssal; he now no longer has to be worried about rumblings from his stomach as he grew nearer and nearer to the prized award he rightfully deserves. After some time, he finally reached one of the branches from which the fruits were hanging.

The young abyssal then cautiously makes his way to the fruit since he doesn't want to fall over and have to repeat the entire process. After a brief amount of time, he then joyfully examines the fruit. Then, after picking up some strange energy from the fruit, he frowns as a result of the confusion that sprouts from his mind. While one instinct tells him to go with eating the fruit, the other urges him to prepare for an unknown event.

Suddenly, the rumblings started up again, this time much louder than the previous ones. With no choice, the young abyssal then decided to throw all caution to the wind and just go with it, completely ignoring the worry he felt. He ate the fruit and felt a wave of immense comfort sweep over him as the hunger slowly subsided.

After swallowing the fruit, he then went and moved on to the next one. He then proceeded to eat the next fruit, and another one, and then another, repeating the whole process. He ate more and more, completely oblivious to the welling energy that were filling his whole body. After eating his fair share of fruits, he burps loudly and lays down on the branch, completely happy with his satisfied stomach.

He briefly rested his worn-out newborn body before becoming aware of certain oddities within his body. He then concentrated on that sensation, taking a while to realize that what was happening inside of him was the circulation of a power source known as mana. His caretaker used mental magic to impart some necessary information to him—the basis for his understanding of mana.

The young abyssal is quite perplexed by this phenomenon; although he has knowledge on how to deal with it, he doesn't have the practice on how to do it. He can try and just do what the information in his mind instructs him to do, but he is worried he might accidentally make a mistake, putting himself in danger. On the other hand, doing nothing and letting the foreign mana inside his body go out of his body through the pores in his skin, which will then dissipate to the surrounding area, will completely turn the mana into a tremendous waste.

After some time of deliberation, he decided to just do what he had done before: throw caution into the air yet again, ignoring the danger, and then proceed to put into practice the information in his mind.

The first thing to do was to make use of his mind. His mind can be used as some sort of control panel in order to gather his own mana and order it to invade the foreign mana inside his body in order to slowly transform it into his own. After transforming the mana into his own, he will have two choices: The first is to circulate it and allow it to spread throughout his whole body except for the mind and make it permeate into the skins, muscles, bones, and nerves in order to strengthen it or make it some sort of regenerative gland that will heal any damage that will occur at first notice. The second is to direct it into his mind, the ideal place to create and put a mana core. The job of a mana core is to act as a storage place for mana, which will condense the mana into pure mana. After condensing, it will slowly transform it into the specific affinity that both the mind and body are attuned to.

This whole process, of course, takes a long time; after all, it's like forcing one man to do the job alone when it should be done by at least three people. This is where the information given to him about how to utilize mana and the importance of forming a mana core ends. The young abyssal was aware that there was a lot of information that had not been given to him by his caretaker. He understands the reason, which is to force the young generation to learn things in their own way and to prevent spoiling them; also, teaching them is difficult because the majority of them are stupid and won't be able to understand it anyway. Only the unique younger abyssals like him were given this information.

Of course, the young abyssal was quite annoyed by this; why couldn't they just make his life easier? Damn stingy buggers. He decided to set aside his dissatisfaction; he had more pressing matters to attend to, and right now getting distracted could potentially kill him, which is an idea he doesn't like. So he shifts his entire focus back to what he was doing. Something tells him that if he succeeds, it will surely award him.
