Chapter 4: Völsung Tribe
They wandered towards the library hoping they could get in and rest. It was an old building with old brick walls and a wide selection of old books with new bricks laid on top as renovations to preserve it without changing it completely. He needed to get a shirt because his was being used to stop Dana from bleeding too much. They entered in from the side entrance of the library and headed towards the seating area that was behind a few of the shelves.
"Sit and rest up, I am going to get some things to patch you up," Benjamin said knowing that Dana would not know what a first aid kit was.
He left as Dana was looking around amazed and in awe of the number of books that were on the shelves and headed towards the old lady librarian sitting in front of a desk 2 sizes too big for her.
"Excuse me, can you please let me use your first aid kit? my friend was attacked recently,"
"Sure, thing deary, is she okay? Goodness, that must have been awfully dreadful. Here, wait a moment I will go and get it for you," the nice old lady said
He looked around as he waited for the nice old lady to come back with the first aid kit. the library was one of those old buildings that had been renovated without touching the outside too much other than cleaning it up so it looked newer. This one looked like one of those old gothic buildings combined with pillars outside that looked like they were taken straight from Greece. There was plenty of glass on the outside causing the library to be filled with natural light instead of artificial light. It looked quite beautiful.
"Here you go deary," the old lady's voice snaps him out of admiring the aesthetic of the library.
He takes the kit and a t-shirt from the librarian and puts the t-shirt on which read "I Love Books" across its chest. He opened the first aid kit and sat next to dana as she continued admiring the library.
"Beautiful isn't it? I haven't seen one of these old libraries in a while, nowadays we keep our libraries and books in digital format. Digital is- difficult to explain. Imagin this whole library fitting into the space of one book,"
"Like a Grimore?"
"Grimore's exist? are we talking about the same type of grimoire? like a compilation of spells in one book?" he replied as he began to clean her wounds.
"Yeah? some low-tier grimoires are like that but the really rare ones contain entire histories. Some of the legacy ones even contain Consciousness. Is that what you mean when you said that digital is like a book that contains an entire library?"
"Yes and no. imagine those low-tier books were connected to a really large book that they can pull knowledge from and everyone has access to it. It is not only other books that it can read you can also send a message a world away. How did they send messages far away from where you came from?" He started applying the alcohol wipes on her wounds and dressing them.
"Argh- We usually went an paid a magician who has a spatial Aspect to send it. Although they did cost a lot to hire. Most of the time if they weren't too far away we would hire someone with the Animal Aspect to send it to another receiver who had an Animal Aspect as well and send it via a pigeon if you wanted it cheap or a Frolcon if you want it fast and guaranteed by the Shop. They still couldn't compare to the spatial Aspect magician but only nobles usually hired them because they were so expensive."
"Then you now know the basics of how digital works, see this phone? it acts as a receiver and storage of information that allows me to know where we are and call speak to people from long distances. Right now we are too close to the Church we came out of and we need to leave as soon as possible." He had finished wrapping her up in all the places she was injured and he had taken his shirt off her leg wound, cleaned and dressed it as well. he threw the shirt into the bin, and then it was time that they left.
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
"Your Tribe, you said they specialize in finding people? can you find your people? how does that work?"
"Once we have something that belongs to a person or that we are close to we can find them anywhere in the world. The problem is if someone has left the world like I obviously have, then it is going to be hard finding them. I would probably only be able to find the last portal they went through.
I can't seem to locate my tribe her though, not even through the portal I assume I would have had to come through." she said frustrated.
"Do you find them via scent?"
"Something like that but more spiritual? I don't fully understand, maybe our tribe elder would be able to explain it."
"If you can't find your tribe, would you be willing to help me find my grandmother? the clue leads me to a church similar to the one I rescued you from. Maybe we can find more of your tribe following these clues."
"Okay, I will help you find your grandmother if you promise once we do find her you will help me find my tribe."
"Only if you promise that if we find your tribe first you will still help me find my grandmother."
"Deal"
"Deal"
They shook hands on the promise and a flash of light erupted from their hands, startling both of them.
"W-What just happened."
"Ah crap, I didn't think this would happen. I thought you were ordinary- not having an aspect but it seems you do."
"Whats the hell was that."
"When 2 people with aspect magic make a promise they are binding themselves to that promise but when it's between a magician and an ordinary person then only the magician is bound to the promise."
"Why would you try to bind yourself to me finding my grandmother, wouldn't that have been bad for you?" He said annoyed.
"Yes and no, only if I broke the promise would there be consequences for me but if we found my tribe first then the elder could order me not to help you when you have already done so much for me. This way I wouldn't be an outcast for disobeying the elder and would only be fulfilling my promise to you. "Promise" Binding are complicated but you can still get out of them. All of the ways out contain very unpleasant consequences. I didn't think you would be a magician as well" She
explained.
"But I am not a magician? I have never done any magic whatsoever."
"Even so- you are still one," Dana stood up and limped towards the exit " do you anything of your grandmother?"
He took out his Kvards book which his grandmother owned for decades
and-
"Why do you have that," she gasped.
"It belonged to my grandmother, she kept it for decades and read it to me a lot when I was younger why?"
"That is a Spell-Tome, It allows the user to use ice Apsect Magic when it isn't their usual Aspect. That is rare," she said reaching out.
He gave it to her because she had earned at least some basic trust. she grabbed it and brought it to her face and her grey eyes lit up as she inhaled deeply, a small amount of white mist drew from the book into Dana's nose.
"Yes, I can feel the general direction your grandmother was taken but I don't feel her. She must have gone through one of the portals."
He nodded and pulled one of dana's arms around him to help he walk to the train station.
