Chapter 3

“Wake up, sister!... Sisterrr!”

“Aaah! I’m awake already!”

Ugh, I should’ve gone to bed earlier; I feel so tired... and sore.

“Ugh, what do you want?”

“You promised you’d go buy the costume before Monday, and today is Sunday!”

Ah, the costume... right.

“Alright, alright, no need to jump on me. Can you get down?”

I don’t understand her habit of jumping on me, it’s so annoying, but kind of cute, I guess.

“But you’re going to buy the costume, right?”

“Okay, now get down so I can get ready before we leave; I need to shower.”

I hope I have some cream. It would be bad if it got infected.

“Okay, by the way, Dad said we’re going to visit the grandparents, so you have to be back before the afternoon!”

Ugh, just what I needed. I hope there are no problems this time.

“Alright, alright, now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to take a shower, miss.”

I try to make a mocking face as I say the last part.

“OKAY!”

Once my sister left my room, I proceeded to get ready. I need to change some bandages, not to mention apply some antibacterial creams.

Anyway, it shouldn’t take long. It seems to be... 7 a.m.? Yeah, I have plenty of time.

“Tap tap tap tap.”

Aah, I feel so tired, I really shouldn’t have stayed up so late. How much longer until we get to the mall? Ah, good, not much.

“Ring!”

Once inside, I started heading to the costume section. There are still about two months until Halloween, but even so, you can already find some costumes. Once I got to the aisles in question, I began searching for a costume.

“No, no, damn, not this one.”

Why is there an indecent costume in a small size? Hmm, should I punch the owner of this place? No, I already have enough problems without adding a new one. I guess I should go to another section.

After a few minutes of searching, I found an appropriate costume. I proceeded to head to the checkout to pay for the costume and, while I was at it, some creams I’ll need later.

“Huh!? What’s going on?”

Outside the mall, there seems to be a small commotion. There are several people who seem to be fighting... eh, now they’re running.

“Uuuuh, uuuuh!”

Oh wow, that doesn’t look good at all. I guess I should get out of here; I don’t want any more problems.

I started running, but not without taking my purchases with me. I really don’t want to have to shop in the middle of the night again. I noticed I wasn’t the only one leaving the mall; I saw some other people who also decided to flee. Was one of them wearing a uniform? How weird, today is Sunday, there shouldn’t be any classes, right?

Whatever, I guess there’s always some weirdo out there.

“Excuse me, sorry.”

The crowd started to gather, and it became annoying and difficult to move now.

“BOOM.”

Oh wow, that sounded really close... too close.

When I turned toward the explosion, I saw a piece of the wall flying toward... me?

“Oh... shit.”

I lost consciousness after saying what seemed to be my last words. Oh well, I really hope someone buys the costume for my sister. It would be a shame if she didn’t go to the party...

...

...

“Aaah! I’m awake already!”

Ugh, I’m getting some kind of déjà vu saying this... hmm, this is weird, my sister should already be bothering me by now.

“Oh wow, where am I?”

Okay, I’m really confused now... shouldn’t I be at home? I don’t remember my dad building a metal room. I’m pretty sure I’d be the first to find out, not to mention something like that would be so hot, I guess.

“Uh, hello? Is anyone there?”

Hmm, there doesn’t seem to be anyone, not to mention... wait, where is the light coming from? I don’t see any bulb or anything like that nearby, not to mention there isn’t any door in this place.

“PSSSS.”

“KYA!”

Wow, that really scared me. Where is that sound coming from? What the hell is that? A section of the wall started opening up like something out of a Star Wars movie, but with better effects, no doubt.

“PSSSS.”

Once the wall fully opened, out came what looks like an... elf? But a rather strange elf. Unlike the elves I know from stories like The Lord of the Rings and some Japanese anime, this elf seems a bit blue, right? Its skin is blue, not to mention its hair is silver. Its eyes seem to be purple, or is it pink? I can’t distinguish that range of colors. You know, colorblindness sucks, at least I only have that.

“******”

Apparently, the now-known-as-elf (if its voice tone is any indication) tried to start a conversation, but without success, considering I didn’t understand anything. Oh well, I can try.

“Uh, sorry, but... I don’t understand you.”

I tried to sound a bit innocent; I really don’t want them to mistake my tone for something aggressive or anything like that.

Ohhh, the elf seems to be thinking; I wonder what they’re doing. Wait, is that...?!

“BOOM!”

... Eh, oh wow... that was close. If it weren’t for the fact that I recognize that move thanks to my mom, no doubt I’d have something stuck in my head right now.

Where my head was, there’s now what seems to be a throwing dagger. Certainly, my attempt to appear innocent to prevent aggression didn’t work, but without a doubt, that’s nothing new to me. I hope my mother’s teachings pay off because fighting against something that seems capable of throwing objects at mach 1 without any apparent problem, not to mention wearing leather armor with some metal parts and seems to have some pouches from which it’s pulling out some kind of vial with undoubtedly dangerous substance, isn’t new to me.

Not to mention it’s pointing at me right now with undoubtedly murderous intentions... Oh wow, now that I think about it, my mother didn’t prepare me for a fight with what appears to be an assassin elf... Ha, screw you, I finally found something you didn’t “prepare” me for, mother.

“BOOM!”

This is going to be a long day.
