CHAPTER TWO

The celestial empire consisted of four heirlooms, The most powerful were martial lords, these weren’t any normal blade fanatics, their swordsmanship proficiency involved extraordinary sword-light skills, divine sense, they could easily perform the forbidden technique that would expand their life spans, their meridians and Qi circulations were remarkable including their lightness skills when battling, as their ‘Dantian’ were very stable no one could ever win against them among other heirlooms in the empire. Most of the martial celestials were warriors and for generations they were referred to as ‘empire heroes’ as there was no loss to any wars or battles under their watch. The second generation were the Divine lords, these were the fortune tellers of the empire, they were born with insight and divination abilities along with intellectual abilities, and they were as well the emperor’s advisors. They could manipulate a person through their minds, their literal skills were not normal as those of other scholars in the empire. The exceptional thing about the martial lords and divine lords was they were the only ones who could ascend the throne thus all the emperors were chosen from these two heirlooms alone, the other two remained generation were only meant to be subordinates of the empire. First were the portal lords who played as the Empire messengers and envoys using their portal formation skills they delivered important information to places within the Empire and bring feedback to the emperor as they travelled into miles. The last were the Healers these were born with spiritual healing gift and were the empire’s best medical experts, no sickness couldn’t be healed by their skills, the highest ranked healer celestials worked within the imperial palace as medical doctors and attendants.

As for most of other healers and portal celestials only lived common lives since only a few most skilled were selected to serve the imperial palace, the highest ranked celestials passed their duties down to their generations and it was the same for ages thus those who weren’t noble celestials lived ordinary lives a commoners within the Empire. The Celestial Empire was a free state, no one was forced to use their ability or train so some people chose not to train and grew only average skills but for the nobles it was necessary to train enough to prepare serving the emperor when chosen into the imperial palace.

The ruling emperor was currently from the martial lords generation, Feng Jiayi, he was the first emperor known to have ascend the throne at a very young age after his father’s sudden death before traditional emperor divination day had yet reached so he had to take over the throne until the divination period arrived, three years had gone by and the traditional emperor precognition day was near , the imperial celestials gathered in the imperial court early in the morning to discuss the preparation of this big upcoming event with the emperor, Feng Jiayi, though he wasn’t officially selected as the emperor but he was still recognised as the Celestial Empire ruler as he carried out the emperor’s duties within the three years.

Feng Jiayi entered the palace court majestically, he grew up as a royal household so he always had an upright appearance, he had young facial features but there was always a cold and unpleasant look on his face , he was arrogant and discourteous that no one carelessly came before him as they could just put their life online to do that, today the officials summoned him so they could discuss on this on the divination of the coming emperor, they were anxious and no one could anticipate what the emperor’s reaction would be, as he sat up on his throne elegantly, Feng Jiayi looked down at the celestial officials with dismay,

“So, what’s this all about? Summoning me early in the morning….” he said with an annoyed expression,

“I hope it’s something useful or else you all are aware of the consequences”, he added bluntly.

There was silence for a while each of the officials wondered who would speak first, this was Feng Jiayi everyone was well aware of his outraged nature, just in time before he outburst with anger the highest ranked divine celestial,

Bo Changming, stepped forward and bowed before him, “May his majesty have a long and prospered life, your royal subordinate seeks permission to speak before your majesty”, he spoke with courtesy,

Feng Jiayi looked at him for a while before replying shortly, “Granted”.

Bo Changming cleared his throat and began explaining, “As your majesty is aware that the traditional emperor divination day is approaching, we request for his majesty’s opinion on this issue”, he firmly spoke and waited for a response. After a long pause the emperor finally replied plainly,

“There will be no such an event anymore!” Feng Jiayi paused again and finished with a clear unwavering tone, “I am the emperor now so everything will be on my terms, and I want that old tradition erased immediately”.

All celestials were dumbfounded, how can a tradition that has been held for generation be erased carelessly like that plus that tradition was formed to maintain peace by balancing power between the two ruling heirlooms if it changes won’t this disrupt the harmonious life of the Celestial Empire? Someone had to say something to stop this reckless decision but who would dare to talk back at this unruly emperor?

“Your Majesty this decision may be too reckless, please reconsider…”, a portal lords deputy imperial celestial had just tried to speak and suddenly interrupted with a huge crash , all officials raised their heads with shock to see what happened, an exquisite heavy-golden table was completely crushed into a million pieces in a single blow by the infuriated emperor.

The court turned out extremely quiet , the celestial ministers just hanged their heads facing the ground none of them dared to utter a word further to the emperor, Feng Jiayi was well known for his scary demeanour, to him one’s life was unworthy if they dare defy his single word. Feng Jiayi looked at the old fogies with displeasure with an extremely cold gaze, ‘these lowly whims, how dare they think they can push me around?’ he thought, ‘I must remind them that am the ruler’.

He stepped down from his throne, stroded towards the nervous celestials and approached the one who just spoke using his palm with full of spiritual energy he hit the latter’s chest hard to bottleneck with the strength used the celestial couldn’t get up again and would be disabled for a while , seeing what happened to their fellow celestial all the others went down on their knees and kowtowed to the emperor in fear, “ So does anyone else have something to say?”, Feng Jiayi spoke with an aggrieved voice filled with killing intent .

What had gone wrong? They just suggested for preparation on the regular tradition, was that really wrong? No, it wasn’t but Feng Jiayi was well aware that if the traditional emperor divination was carried out the chances of him keeping the throne were slim, that’s what made him agitated.

Though it was tradition in the kingdom that after a period of time younger celestials where tested with their skills and divination ritual performed, that’s how the throne was ascended, Feng Jiayi only became an exception after his father’s death this was just luck for Feng Jiayi to inherit the throne against the traditions, he didn’t want to let it go, he had to keep it at all costs even if he had to stop the traditions that would snatch the throne from his possession. That way the discussion ended, no more divination tradition so he is the emperor and he will step down on his own terms no one would defy the Emperor’s word.

Guang Meifen, 48 years old could be described as a Morden classical woman, she was born in a wealthy family and got married to her father’s business partner’s son, Guang Jing , a strong and influential politician in the country owning the first largest company within the city, Meifen grew up pampered like a princess by her rich parents she had never known what the word poverty really meant, though she was aged her skin still shone like a middle aged woman in her 30’s, she carried and wore extravagantly expensive clothes and accessories to show off her wealth, she had three children one girl, Guang Liqian, who was the eldest and two boys, Guang Liu and Guang Lei, the last born, she never gave much attention to the two older children and only showered her love to the youngest, Guang Lei.

Today Guang Meifen felt to just stay home, she sat idly on the luxurious couch scrolling into her phone, their mansion was one among most splendid and outstanding in the whole neighbourhood, with open floors, built with steel, concrete and glass with progressive appearance, connected outdoor and flat roofing. The rooms in the house where extremely large and spacious and with all this Meifen felt as if her life was in cloud nine, never in her life did she worry about starving whether it was for her or her family, Guang Lei, the youngest son came and sat beside his mother,

“Ma!”, Guang Lei called out to his mother who was so engrossed in her phone for the third time shaking her hand, Mrs. Guang finally paid attention to him,

“Ah, Xiao Lei forgive mommy for ignoring you”, she spoke with a coaxing voice to ease her son’s anger, Guang Lei pursed his lips like a child and looked at his mother with disapproval, “Ma! This is not fair, I called you like a hundred times!” he yelled, he knew his mother would never get angry at him no matter what reason, he sighed,

“ Alright, I’ll forgive you this time next time am going to ignore you for a month”, he added, his mother chuckled, “As if you could that”, Mrs. Guang muttered, Guang Lei snorted at his mother’s words, “Try me and you’ll lose your favourite son”, he urged. Mrs. Guang gave out a soft laughter and admitted defeat, “Okay, Okay, I promise it won’t happen again, tell me do you need something?” the latter nodded with a pouty look on his face,

“Can I attend a friend’s party tonight? I can’t ask dad he is going to bring up his annoying lectures”, Mrs. Guang softly patted his head and nodded as an approval, “Don’t worry about your father, he won’t touch you as long as am here”, she added. Guang Lei stood immediately and left soon after getting his mother’s approval.

The 18 years old boy had no manners at all unlike his two older siblings , his older sister, Guang Liqing was famous for her beautiful , irresistible fairy looks along with her good manners as for his older brother ,Guang Liu, he was everyone’s Idol-type of guy from his looks to calm nature but Guang Lei was just an average type on looks plus his etiquette was totally opposite to that of his older siblings he grew up spoiled , rude and a troublemaker to his siblings.

His father, Mr. Guang always scolded him and was disappointed in his youngest son deprived nature, not only did he cause trouble outside but was also a mediocre in school and performed poorly, at times his older brother , Guang Liu tried to support him but he always threw tantrums and called him a hypocrite, no one knew that behind this spoiled behaviour , Guang Lei’s mother had the biggest influence and kept feeding poison to her youngest son and fought with her husband whenever he tried to discipline ,Guang Lei, she always brought up words like , “Why are you always against our poor Xiao Lei? What’s so good about those two useless kids? They are always bullying my poor son!”

Guang Liu never understood the meaning behind their mother’s words, why was she so against them when she is the one who gave birth to them? but whenever he tried to ask his elder sister, Liqing always calmly smiled at him and said, “ Don’t overthink, Mom’s just angry”, that’s all, no more words where explained so he grew accustomed to his mother’s biased nature between them and their younger sibling, Guang Lei.

The celestial city was busy as always , everyone was engrossed in whatever was keeping them busy, though it was the city of the gifted but the people here lived like any ordinary beings, there where merchants who carried out their business along the street roads, the taverns where filled with people chattering and gossiping about recent occurrences within the Empire, today was quite sunny and Bai Heng decided to take a stroll in town whether it was for leisure or to look out for beauties , he had also planned to meet his acquaintance, Huang Hui and agreed to have a drink with him and tell him his idiotic stories he had from the palace, only Huang Hui could listen to this kind of Bai Heng’s foolishness.

Huang Hui was different from Bai Heng in every single way people were amazed on how these two ended up being friends , Huang Hui was a very reserved person with ambition , he appeared noble among his peers and a descendant of the Divine Lords making him a very outstanding and intelligent young man , though it was a puzzle in other’s minds why he had to be friends with a useless brat like, Bai Heng , Huang Hui was an ambitious man and wouldn’t just hang around with anyone so there was definitely a reason to why he tolerated, Bai Heng’s impudent behaviours.

Bai Heng entered the tavern and found Huang Hui already seated at a table in the corner reading a book quietly, as a noble he is everyone could feel this man’s intelligence just by looking at him, Bai Heng walked towards the table where his friend occupied , today he wore a plain light blue robe with a black belt around his waist, his hair was tied into a ponytail that hang straight on his back , as he was approaching Huang Hui’s table, he scanned the earlier and noticed a few beauties staring at him, this was his pride, his looks, though people said he had no brains but his looks were out of ordinary and putting his head in the clouds he knew no girl could ever resist his charms , he winked at them as they shyly evaded his seductive gaze with blushing faces.

“Young master Huang if you keep reading those boring books, you’ll end up marrying a library”, mocked Bai Heng with a pretentious caring expression, Huang Hui raised his head hearing his friends words,

“Since when did you learn manners? I barely heard you call me young master before”, Huang Hui counterattacked Bai Heng’s word, as Bai Heng opened his mouth to reply, Huang Hui interrupted him and spoke ironically, “Ooh! And about my marriage don’t worry, in fact marrying a library isn’t as bad as becoming a monk, right?” he knew Bai Heng well so he could backlash him with his own words, the latter just chuckled and replied,

“Da-ge is wiser I can never compete with the Divine lord celestial, maybe in my next life”.

Huang Hui smirked, “Too bad we only live once”, he muttered sarcastically, the other heard the sarcasm but ignored it since words never bothered him if they could decide to bicker on each other , not even the Emperor could stop them so one of them had to give up to end the bickering contest.

“So, am sure you didn’t just want to meet for a drink, you’d rather be peeking at some bathing beauties now, what’s your issue?”, asked Huang Hui with a straightforward expression, a heavy sigh came from Bai Heng as if bored he rested his cheek on his palm as the table supported his elbow,

“ Haaaah!I need a goddess for myself, I’ll die at this rate, looking at those beauties in the palace everyday am barely surviving my poor parents will bury me sooner or later if this keep going”, Huang Hui listened to Bai Heng’s blabbering quietly,

“ So what does that have to do with you meeting me?”, he asked, “with your terrible looks am sure you can build a harem”, Huang Hui bluntly complimented,

Bai Heng suddenly jumped beside him snuggling closer making the other uncomfortable, “ Da-ge, please find me a beauty , I promise I’ll do anything you want I know you can enter the palace easily since you are an assistant imperial official, please?”, looking at his friend’s pleading eyes, Huang Hui knew this nuisance won’t let him go until he agrees, “ I know a place, the palace backyard garden, there is this maiden who goes there every day and she’s always alone during night time, you can try pursuing her though I can’t guarantee she’ll accept you”, he suggested, Bai Heng looked at his friend and laughed hard, “ Da-Ge, just because you were rejected doesn’t mean she will be able to resist me”, he went back to his previous seat and gulped the whole cup of wine and stood up, “ In fact , didn’t you just say my looks could build a harem? Watch me make her your sister-in-law, and thank you!”, and he ran out of the tavern leaving Huang Hui behind.

Huang Hui just chuckled, “This brat, he won’t even sense trouble when it comes to him”, he murmured to himself, he finished his drink, paid and left the tavern.
