NIGEL DEORC (CHILD OF THE 'ECLIPSE' PROPHECY)

I was seven years old when my family and I were walking home from an inn down a seemingly abandoned street when the mugging happened. A man with a knife came out of one of the alleyways we were going past. The man reeked of alcohol and seemed unsteady when we refused to give him what he wanted. He lunged and stabbed my father and slit my mother's throat in the process, hitting me as well. Realizing what he had done, he ran away, leaving me to lose consciousness.

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

My father and I survived the whole ordeal. But we weren't really living. The Spark of life had left our home. While I was walking around half-blind, my father started frequenting the local tavern. And it wasn't until two months later that I discovered he had a drinking problem. I supported him as best I could, but three years later, he died. I was alone in the world and had nothing left, so I went out to get an apprenticeship as an artisan, and soon after five years of lashings and grueling work, I had honed my senses became the best artisan in the town.

But as all good things munt come to an end, three years later, my workshop was burned down with me in it. While I was on the brink of death, a slithering darkness that was lurking around the corner enveloped me, changed my very existence, and as I changed the energies around me grew tainted. I felt stronger. And to the being who I owe my life too, thank you. Because without you, I never would have found Redemption.
