Breaking the Shell

Breaking the Shell

I feel the wind rushing against my skin as I look blankly at the sky. I lost myself in the scenery before I was jolted back to reality by the ringing of my doorbell.

Knowing who was at the door, I sighed as I looked through the hole. She frowned in response to my grin as I opened the door and greeted her. She entered the room without grinning or glancing at me. I said, "Could you tell me what I did wrong that made you frown so horribly?"

Emily looked at her and remained silent. Ashley sat on the couch facing Emily and said, "All right, let's not say anything to each other." "Yh, don’t hesitate to do what you know best” rolling her eyes, Emily remarked. "Shutting people out." Ashley remarked, "Don't start with this again," and she got up to go to the kitchen.

"What should I not start with? For a year, you have isolated yourself from the outside world” Emily stated worriedly, "You need to come out of this shell you've locked yourself in." Emily remarked. "It's not as easy as it seems," Ashley remarked.

"I've made numerous attempts to come out, but I just can't; it's not working."

"You just shut yourself off from the world for a whole year without ever coming out," Emily said. "You've tried to come out of your shell or just locked yourself inside sulking all day." “But you know what? There is no doubt that you will accompany me on my upcoming adventure. Please don't ask any questions, and it's not negotiable," Emily stated angrily.

"No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, I'll be alright." Even if I come out of my shell, I won't accompany you on any of your insane trips. I adore myself, but that doesn't mean I want to voluntarily end my own life just because I've been pouting all year. Alright, I'll get out of my shell on my own”. "I will not accompany you on that adventure," Ashley declared.

“You've been saying things like, 'I'll come out of my shell, I'll come out myself ' but as I mentioned, it's not negotiable, because you never follow through on your promises, so this time we'll follow my non-negotiable instructions. Please, I'm starving now. Do you have any food? "Said Emily. Ashley grudgingly answered, "Well, I guess I have no choice but to follow you, and yes, I do have some food in the kitchen."  Then Emily suggested that they go eat.

“Greetings, Mr. Cage” Mr. Collymore greeted and sat. "Good morning," remarked Mr. Cage. "Now, what have you got for me?"

"Well, we've heard that a treasure has been found."

"What kind of treasure is that?" Mr. Cage lifted his eyebrows in question.

With a twinkle in his eyes, Mr. Collymore remarked, "The treasure's name and location have not yet been revealed, but I've heard rumors that are circulating and could be very beneficial to everyone."

“And what did I say about you providing me with insufficient details? After hearing about this treasure, you suddenly come to me and tell me that you have discovered something of which you have no idea what it is or its name”

"Mr. Collymore, let this be the last time you approach me with insufficient information” with annoyance, Mr. Cage responded, "Thank you for wasting my time."

"I apologize, this error won't happen again,” Mr. Collymore said and walked away.

"Didn't Mr. Collymore just go, honey?” His wife Sandra asked, "I thought he had just arrived, and I was still going to ask him if he wanted coffee or tea."

"I apologize, my love. He just came to give me some information about some contracts, but he doesn't yet have all the details." He partially lied.

He inquired, "So, when are you departing on your adventure, or journey, as you call it?"

"Well, I'm waiting to hear from Emily, so whatever it is that she says, that's when I know the journey will begin," she stated. He looked lovingly and admiringly at his wife and remarked, "Okay, but I'm going to miss my beautiful wife during that period."

"Mommy!!!" a small child threw himself at Sandra and embraced her tightly. "Oh my! Am I now invisible?” Simon joked, "Oh my god, no one can see me again. What am I going to do?"

"Stop it, you're not invisible," Sandra added, laughing.

"Oh, so why didn't my little boy see me and scream mommy first instead of daddy if I'm not invincible?"

Ryan hugged his father and remarked, "Oh Daddy, soon it's just going to be me and you so we are going to get all the time to spend together." Simon hugged him in return and said, "All right, if my little boy says so."

Sandra grinned at them and said, "Enough of the father-son chatter, let's go have breakfast."

At night, I lay on my bed and stared at the ceiling, wondering what this voyage would be. I'm not sure whether it will be my last because I'm pretty sure it could either kill me or kill me. “I think this journey, adventure, or suicide might work because I need to get out of this shell I put myself in, and it hasn’t even affected me.”

"Good night, sulky me, because this may be the last time I get to be sulky, and by last, I mean the last time." Ashley says to herself, "Good night," and falls asleep.
