Ajanathad Balganati; fireblood. One of the Great Emperors of Hajana, ruling in the fourth century of the Empire. One of the early rulers of the Middle Dynasty. Had a reputation as an unusual ruler, but brought stability to the western regions of the Empire, coming to peaceful arrangements with the restive Briothans and Vianosa, as well as turning Hajana into a naval power.

Blooded; The Blooded are those who have some affinity with natural elements of the world, a trait that tends to run in families, though not always. They are marked apart due to colourations of hair, eyes and even skin at times. Firebloods have eyes that look molten and hair the colour of flames, while earthbloods have ochre coloured eyes, coppery hair and a tendency toward golden skin. The Hajanri were ruled over by firebloods. The Conclave Kingdoms and Mages tend to discriminate against Blooded who are not from the royal families.

Briothans; An ancient people who lived in much of the western regions but who lost a lot of their lands first to Vianosan invaders and then the Hajana. Tall and pale, they are noted as fierce warriors who still cling to their tribal ways. Often looked down upon as barbarians by the more civilised regions.

Conclave; A political and economic pact between the seven Vigosan kingdoms and the city of Ciosala, which was ruled by the Mages. Founded some two centuries after the fall of Hajanri, it brought peace and stability to the Vigosan lands, which were suffering from internal and external threats. It has lasted for some five centuries.

Conclave Kingdoms; Formed by the seven Vianosan provinces which were part of the Empire of Hajana. They survived the cataclysm that ended Hajana partially intact and evolved into the seven kingdoms that, under the influence of the Mages, came together in the Conclave.

Hajana; The Empire of the Hajanri, who emerged out of the east roughly 1700 years before present times, quickly conquering all who stood in their path on their march west to the seas. Their empire lasted for almost twelve centuries before it fell in a cataclysmic event that left their heartlands as deserts. The scattered survivors were not able to maintain power and new nations rose in the aftermath.

Kathri; earthblood. Born in the Conclave Kingdoms but now a wanderer who explores and plunders ancient ruins and tombs for fame and fortune, not just from the time of the Hajanri but from even older civilisations.

Vigosa; The inhabitants of the Conclave Kingdoms, descendants of the ancient Vianosans who settled the region before the time of the Hajanri. While ruled over by Hajanri Lords, there was much intermarriage between the Hajanri and the Vianosans and, following the fall of Hajana, a new culture borrowing elements of ancient Vianosan and Hajanri practices emerged, becoming known as the Vigosa.
