Chapter 30: go fish

Dante broke the silence. “We need to figure out how to retrieve those items. If we’re going to survive, we can’t afford to miss out on things like that.”

the old man, rubbed his chin thoughtfully. “I have an idea. Give me a few minutes.”

The group watched in anticipation as the old man rummaged through his bag, retrieving a length of rope and a peculiar arrow with a hooked tip. He tied the rope securely to the arrow’s base and then nocked it onto his bow. His frail appearance contrasted sharply with the strength and precision in his movements.

“Hold on,” the old man said, his voice steady and commanding. With a practiced aim, he released the arrow. It sailed through the air, the rope trailing behind it, and landed with a solid trunk near one of the remaining items—a small green vial. Elden tugged carefully on the rope, dragging the vial across the bridge until it was within reach.

Dante picked it up, examining the glowing liquid inside. The label was partially faded but still readable:

Cure for Zombification

Description: When administered to a person bitten by a zombie but not yet turned, this cure reverses the zombification process. The liquid swiftly neutralizes the virus within the bloodstream, halting the transformation.

Dante’s eyes widened in astonishment. “This… this is a cure for zombification! If someone’s bitten but hasn’t turned yet, this could save their life!”

Maya and the old man exchanged amazed glances. Until now, they had only found basic supplies. Discovering something this powerful was completely unexpected.

the old man smiled, his confidence growing. “Let’s see what else I can fish up.”

He adjusted the rope on another arrow and repeated the process. It took a few tries, but eventually, the old man retrieved five more items Gloves two rings a small health Potion and Map:

Dante, Maya, Oliver and the old man examined the newly discovered items. The old man seemed particularly interested in the Archer's Chopper Gloves.

"These gloves," Dante explained, "are specifically designed for archers. They enhance agility and have nice skill , making them perfect for someone skilled with a bow."

The old man nodded, a spark of excitement in his eyes. "I used to be quite the archer back in my younger days. These gloves will come in handy."

As they continued their journey, Dante initiated a conversation, curiosity getting the best of him. "By the way, we've been working together, but I don't think we've properly introduced ourselves. I'm Ray, What's your name?"

The old man smiled warmly, a hint of nostalgia in his gaze. "Names hold memories of a different time. You can call me Elden. That's what they used to call me, a long time ago."

Dante nodded, acknowledging the significance of the name. "It's good to know your name Elden"

Dante, Maya, Oliver and Elden made their way back to camp. Elden carefully donned the Archer's Chopper Gloves, his fingers expertly finding their places within the supple leather.

Maya and Dante each wore one of the magical rings, feeling the subtle hum of energy against their skin.

They securely placed the potions into Dante's bag, ensuring their precious finds were safely stored and start to walk back to camp.

As they walked, Dante’s mind wandered to the ten unused stat points he had been holding onto since their last encounter with danger. The group’s recent discoveries had reminded him of the importance of preparation. “Should I invest in agility to improve my reflexes? Or maybe strength, in case we encounter another horde…” he thought, weighing his options. The green vial tucked safely in his bag added urgency to his decision—being faster or stronger could mean the difference between life and death in this world. Still, he hesitated. The right choice now could shape the battles to come.

Lost in thought, Dante almost missed Maya’s voice breaking the silence.

“So… what’s the plan now?” she asked, her tone even but tinged with weariness. “Do we press on and try to find this village marked on the map, or head back to camp to regroup?”

Elden adjusted his gloves, flexing his fingers. “I think heading back to camp makes the most sense,” he said. “ we need to make sure we’re all rested and ready before following that map.”

Maya nodded. “I agree. The camp is safe and we regroupwith the others"

The group decide and go to the camp
