The beginning of human history began when they decided to work together in communities. They made up for each other’s weaknesses to create the foundation of a torch that would be passed down from generation to generation.
Actions are being taken to strengthen the foundation for the children of tomorrow to live easier lives, but not to become complacent. It is crucial that people learn from the mistakes of their ancestors and not repeat them. This is a world filled with conflict, disease, poverty, and many more predicaments that only harm people.
However, within the history of humanity there have been unfortunately too many sheep among creatures with such vast potential. Human beings need leaders to guide them and heroes to inspire them. When life is difficult they need someone to help them and when it's confusing they look for a leader.
Then there was me. I don’t fit in any spot.
I was born in Valhalla, a town located in the country of Southern Vinland. It’s pretty evenly cold and hot throughout the year here. In spite of all this, it rarely snows here, almost as if a curse has been placed upon the country. Because of this, Southern Vinland is a very prosperous country in both imports and exports.
But the most famous thing about Southern Vinland would be its greatest regional Super Hero known only by its hero name of “Pillar man” he stood at almost seven feet tall, could fly faster than any plane on the planet, had the strength to kick a meteor back into orbit, he was truly the hero Southern Vinland didn’t deserve.
But there was a simple reason I didn’t like Pillar Man personally. He was my old man.
Now you might think my mother was just some random housewife you’d never expect to know but that’s where you would be wrong. She was one of the most powerful people in the country, and one of the wealthiest in the world. So here I was born to a Hero, and a Leader while also being the most mild human being you could ever meet.
My younger brother already had awakened to his super powers while I hadn’t sprouted any anomalies since birth until today. Now maybe in a different world that would be totally fine, and so it was in mine. Aside from my mother being known for being rich no one knew about my father being Pillar Man.
Rather that was the reason why they were at odds and it was all my fault. In other words, I'm the child without any talents inherited from either parent. I didn’t even get the golden hair my dad has when his emotions change which is an iconic part of his hero persona.
I was just someone with a mild personality. You would never be able to tell me apart from a crowd of people in the middle of the city. I was not like any of my parents and held no actual talents or good traits of my own.
I woke up to the sound of thunder hitting the roof of my house. I was just 17 at the time and still in school. I wasn’t bothered by the sound after waking up. Therefore, I decided to try and fall asleep again since it was a Saturday. I had no responsibilities and there was no way anyone would trust me with anything. Yeah, it wasn't a Saturday.
But once again I heard that noise and it canceled out my drowsiness. Therefore, I got out of bed pushing my blanket to the side which felt so heavy and conforming. I then sat up placing one leg at a time off of my warm bed
Sometimes it was a struggle to fight off the feeling of not wanting to get off my bed than other days. However, today I had been strong. My mouth naturally opened to let out a wide yawn scratching my back as I stood up. I looked around my room to find that the outfit I had picked for myself yesterday had been replaced with something else entirely. Average attempt by my mother to control my life, I didn’t bother to see what she had picked for me and reached for my closet.
After picking out some clothes I felt as though my eyes were reaching outside of my control. I looked at the clothes my mom picked for me. I didn’t want to let her think she had control over me but I also didn’t hate her. In fact as many kids did I loved my mother even if we didn’t have the greatest relationship.
Though I swallowed my pride and decided to wear what she had picked for me, I looked like the kid of a Multi Billionaire. This was because I had the expensive brand clothes I had now on my body. Just that jacket could pay for the rent of most of my classmates' leases. It made me seem pretentious and easy pickings for assholes who would be eager to beat me up and then steal my clothes.
That was the only reason I chose clothes I liked over any near-invisible quality hiding behind the clothes I wore. As I walked out of my room into the restroom to wash my face, brush my teeth, and comb my hair I would walk into the living room. Myher was cooking breakfast with the maids around him asking him to step aside. This was because they didn’t want too burn his hands.
He assured them he’d be fine. He continued cooking with my mother sitting down at the table. She was the type to not put anything on her coffee but rather wanted it as sour as possible. She'd cut the odd invention my brother had cooked up in the kitchen into square bits which she would eat with a fork one by one. She’d give my brother the thumbs up signaling her approval of the breakfast fried chicken waffle sandwich dipped in soy sauce with ginger.
I walked into the room the heads there would turn to face me, my brother waving me good morning, and the maids doing a mechanical bow, my mother being the last to turn her head I saw as her expression changed to a happy one.
“Wearing the outfit I picked out for you? That's a great new change.”
She’d commented while pulling the chair next to her so that I could sit down and eat dinner with her, and my brother Louis.
“You know you didn’t have to mention that, that was just leaving that there to hit me in the guilt.”
She would giggle at my comment.
“For someone with terrible notes like yours you sure know how to read into things well.”
After reaching to pat my head, she froze half way through and put her hand back on the table.
“I just don’t like my classes-"
Before I could even finish my thought, my brother interrupted me.
“That’s a lie."
I hated how often he would do that. With just a maximum of five words spoken, he would always make me shut up. Why would I remain in denial? He was right I did like my classes I was just bad at everything.
“You know if people try to bully you, you can always throw money at the problem.”
This was my mother telling me to use my financial advantage to fix my problems.
“I worked my ass off so you kids would have the easiest life, wear the nicest clothes, and attend to the finest school, and find the prettiest ladies. I don’t mind if you abuse your wealth.”
My own mother…I replied to her then.
“I’ve never heard of a mother giving advice like that to her own children…”
“No kidding
Replied my brother putting my, his, and dad’s plate on the table and sitting down on the seat in front of me. Since I had no idea where my dad was, I really felt the urge to ask about his whereabouts, even if I had an idea of his whereabouts.
“Hey mom, where is dad?”
I asked my mom while she drank her coffee. She would look towards the ceiling and point towards it.
“One of his super villains decided to attack us as soon as the sun rose, so your dad flew up there to take care of him. I don’t get why he hasn't finished yet, Franky, can you see what is going on up there?”
My little brother Franky, who was one year younger than me, nodded his head. Then taking a deep breath, his hair turned bright red, and he flew outside through the open window elegantly like a butterfly. Suddenly there was a loud noise like that of a bomb dropping from the sky followed by a thump on the roof.
“I think dad was just playing around again."
As I mentioned that my mom would grin and soon enough both dad, and Franky came through the window. Upon landing, my dad's golden hair dwindled into a dirty blonde, while behind him, my brother would land a bit less gracefully, slipping on the surface below.
“Don’t worry, I was just trying to undermine his self-confidence. With idiots like those you got to let them know to stop fucking around.”
He would walk over to the table and sit down, my brother following behind him while me, and mom stayed at the table and waited. That thought made me feel like a spear had pierced right through my heart, causing me to gasp loudly, which together with the sandwich I was eating made me cough.

As we all finished eating and we all left for the door, I looked back at our giant house, saw a man in an armored suit on our roof with police officers using a ladder to reach the roof to arrest the armored weirdo.
Stepping into the backseat of the car with mom, and Franky. Our phones were in our hands, and we all used our earbuds to watch or listen to whatever we found interesting on our phones. Personally, I listened to a podcast while Mom and Franky listened to music - stupid loud music you could hear a bit of even with their ear buds on them.
The car would make a stop at my school, where me, and Franky would step off. Our butler would fetch us our school bags, which we grabbed and thanked him before we began walking towards our school. Franky followed behind me as I moved my bag over my shoulder. We walked towards the school and waved goodbye to mom. A group of girls quickly approached us trying to start a conversation. Which I tried to ignore while they initiated a talk with my brother.
“Hey Frank how was your summer break?”
My brother's arm was gripped by one of the girls and she grabbed onto it as he was distracted from the other girls. Some sweat falling down his cheek he'd reply.
“It was fine, we didn’t really do much just stay home and relax.”
My brother replied thateven though he was very uncomfortable with the individual pressing onto him, her pink hair, and freckles made her easy to remember as the leader of their group. Pink hair wasn’t a normal hair color years ago but during our generation it became something more common.
“You serious? You should’ve come to all the parties we invited you to.”
She said while pulling onto his sleeve and pouting, they weren’t terrible people but they didn’t really respect people’s space nor their time.
“I didn’t really want to go, especially since you guys didn’t even invite my brother.”
The group leader let go of my brother’s sleeve while Tsking, the other girls tried not to look at me following the revelation.
“Franky don’t be stupid you should’ve just gone without me bro.”
I told him I didn’t approve of him holding back his popularity because of my unpopularity. It was something we had talked about before but of course he would always reply.
“If these girls didn’t even think of inviting you, then I don’t think their group was worth my time.”
I shook my head in disapproval as the girls went inside of the school. They waved us goodbye as they shoved the pink one, who didn't seem angry but shocked. I held back a laugh then tapped my brother on his shoulder to signal him to not mind her.
As we walked inside after a while we bumped fists, and continued on our different ways. Some people gave me a weird look I didn’t really know why but finally made it to my classroom and sat on the very back, not to avoid the teacher but to avoid people throwing shit at me from behind me like last semester.
I put my phone, and bag away deciding to at least hear who my teacher was, and what they were going to be about, etc. She introduced herself as Ms. Meyer and said that she liked hiking, dogs, all generic stuff. All I really cared about was that she was pretty.
Looking around I realized that my two best friends were sitting next to me. Nath sat in front of me, and Johnny sat on my right. Nath had a super power which only the two of us, and her parents knew about. She was going to attend to the Super Academy of Training, and Heroism aka the SATH. Johnny was going to dedicate time to his own company he had started last year.
“Hey Joseph, when are you gonna show us your powers?”
Nath asked me while I wasn’t paying attention, and I was just staring into space. Johnny playfully nudged me and asked me.
“Yeah, did you finally awaken them during summer break? I barely got to see you guys.”
I had not yet developed my powers, and powers were commonly passed down from the parents to the children if they had them. The chance did decrease if they were a half breed of some kind. My father was a half breed already of an alien race of humans from his mother’s side.
This diluted the possibility of me getting any powers of my own, which my brother had already awakened. Having established a business with Franky, My little brother wasn't inclined do any hero work, which bothered me quite a bit.
Nath gave me a look then secretly used her power to pass me a note to my desk, she could create an invisible metaphysical domain where she had full control of the objects within it. This was something she inherited from her parents who didn’t have any powers but did possess the ability hidden within their genetics which mutated into her “Space Magic”.
"We made a promise as children, but I don't mind breaking it if you don't have superpowers. You should look into another business.”
Reading this felt like something gripped my heart, I felt sad about the thought I wouldn’t be able to keep our promise but that I also wouldn’t be able to be a hero like my dad. In fact, I had given up on any other options; I wished hard for my dream to come true every night. I didn’t even sleep much during this year. I was fearful I wasn’t going to gain any before I finished Highschool by this stage and would be forced to rethink a career.
I wrote my reply on the note and set it on my table. I double tapped on it to signal her she could grab it, within moments the note had disappeared and returned to her. As she read the note I talked to Johnny about the business he had started with Franky.
“So Johnny are you sure your business is gonna work? I don’t want it to fail and for you to come crying to me.”
Johnny laughed at the idea and replied.
“Fool it’s not going to fail, all that money I borrowed from your brother I’m motivated to repay. Our earnings slope hasn’t once deviated so far so I just need the time now.”
I rolled my eyes back then gave him the thumbs up, I was always happy that the three of us were so adamant with our choices. Though I had begun to doubt my future, my thoughts were interrupted by Nath teleporting a note to my desk and leaving only a smily face and the comment "I'm glad."
After class ended I got a text from my dad about something he wanted to talk to me about after school then I put it away, while looking at my class schedule I realized that the “Special Studies” subject was missing from my list, it was a class for the special kids with powers to take so we could work out our “muscles”.
I had a bad feeling about this, and sure enough I got a call from my mom as I was about to reach the student services office.
"Joseph are you listening?”
I decided to give her some silent treatment since I had an idea what she was going to say.
“Your father talked to the principal, and asked him to remove you from the special studies program-”
After hearing this, I hung up the phone and knocked loudly on the principal office door. I wasn’t going to take this shit from anybody and was going to confront the principal myself about it, Dad had no control over this.
Upon approaching the principal's office, I walked in and angrily sat on the chair, arms crossed, staring him down. The principal stood behind his desk looking away and asked me a question.
“What do you want Joseph?”
He spoke in a lower tone than usual almost uninterested, and I couldn’t believe the audacity of this man to ask me the obvious.
“I know that my father talked to you about removing me from special studies. You-"
Before finishing I held myself back and took a deep breath I didn’t want to insult Principal Goodman who had been by my side so many times before. Principal Goodman sighed then removed his glasses, then rubbed his eyes. Looking closer, I realized the principal had stains under his eyes, as well as puffiness around his eyes.
Thinking back on it, I realized looking at the desk of the man who had supported my dream for so long it didn’t make sense that he’d ever give up on me. In addition, the desk had a large dent, and papers were scattered throughout the room, not just that, but also considering the time had passed since my mom had contacted me.
It was definitely my father who had threatened the school principal to do this. I took a deep breath to try and calm down then walked outside gripping my fists I had already caused enough trouble for today, and it wasn’t even necessary in any way I felt like a parasyte.
“Sorry, Principal Goodman I will talk to my father later.”
I would look at the list of classes I had gotten and walked towards room 207 on the west building. The path was similar to the path I took to get to the special studies class. I passed by my brother who was talking to the pink hair girl whose name I could never remember. I would wave at him then continue walking on my path.
I saw the door to the special studies classroom, then stood back I really wanted to go inside but I didn’t want to act like a spoiled brat. Still though I stood still looking into the classroom I noticed there was nobody inside, in fact there didn’t seem to be anybody inside.
What was going on? Looking closer I also realized that the door had been sealed shut as if to make sure to keep anybody out. I felt a tap on my shoulder then turning my head I found Nath standing there arms crossed.
“Dude what are you doing just standing there?”
I didn’t even know what to say to her, I wasn’t even capable of finishing my career path anymore so I wouldn’t be able to follow the promise.
“Nath I-”
She cut me off while pointing to the janitor’s closet.
“Did no one tell you that special studies was going to be done in a different room?”
No they had told me about that before summer break. Looking at the janitor’s closet I saw the number on top of it and almost shed a tear, the number was exactly room two hundred and seven. I was going to be able to get my license after all, and the surge of emotions actually made my eyes swell up.
I covered my face with my hands, and fell to the ground on my knees. Thank god nobody was on the hallway otherwise I’d get weird looks and rumors about the rich kid crying in front of the janitor’s closet.
I’m sure it was weird for Nath but I’m assuming she understood something good had happened to me so she pat my head and began to comfort me. Without her or Johnny, I don't know what I would do. They were the only friends I have had my entire time at school. Well more like the only I had stayed friends with after so many years.
Rubbing my eyes I stood up with the help of nath and she then playfully gave me a push towards the janitor closet.
“What are you waiting for? Class is going to start soon let’s go inside.”
The special studies teacher said while peeking his head through the door, the teacher was the Hero known as Cryo Ghoul who had powers to do with controlling ice and the likes. Though his control was so powerful, and precise to the point he could manipulate his own ice body to any state of matter.
Looking around to make sure no one was around I grabbed Nath by her wrist and pulled her inside of the entrance as she closed the door behind us. I managed to see Mr Lloyd as he liked for us to refer to him walking through a wall after tapping a specific broom three times, so after I tapped on the cheap dollar store bought broom three times me, and Nath walked inside of a very open white space with the floor being covered in a black foam like carpet and the ceiling with many lamps which illuminated the white walls beautifully.
“The government actually put the tax money to use, look at what we could afford for the program kids!”
Mr Lloyd said as he walked to the middle of the room all the other students sitting down in a circle, I saw some familiar faces but the one who caught my eye was the pink hair girl. Had she always been in this class but I never realized?
Putting my bag down I went to sit in the circle, Nath teleporting right next to me switching spots with my bag. She pulled her tongue at me, she did that a lot to mess with me one time she and Johnny went to pick me up once and she had switched the shirt I was gonna wear with some slime which then made it so I had to take a shower, and we were late to the party but we had a good laugh so it was a good prank especially because later I got get back.
Anyways as the class started Mr Lloyd told each one of us to step to the middle of the room, introduce ourselves, then show off our special abilities. There were some generic powers like fire, cloning, etc., but there were also some very interesting ones which I would take notes on.
Skipping me for obvious reasons it became Nath’s turn, and I was sure as hell no one was going to bear her. She went to the middle of the circle after tearing a piece of paper into tiny bits then rolling each one of them into small balls.
“Is tearing paper all you can do?”
Ignorantly, he asked then began laughing with his own small group of NPCs after which, Nath threw the paper balls everywhere from her hand, landing everywhere in the room within a fraction of a second, she had switched places with each one of them and placed a sticker on everyone's faces before teleporting next to me and sat down. She grinned at her display of power.
Everybody in the class began to clap including the teacher, all except the rude guy from earlier, and his goons. Mr Lloyd then proposed we began training on our respective skills with eachother, and to not worry about any destruction to the room.
“Wait but if we break stuff doesn’t that mean we are wasting the funds?”
I asked the teacher while raising my hand the other students began to look at me probably thinking “who is this guy?” well at least the ones with a short attention spam who couldn’t notice me in the room simply because I didn’t step into the circle.
“Did you think this space was real?”
Nath, and I raise our brows in confusion
“The space you all kids are currently standing on isn’t real but at the same time it could be, we call it schrodinger’s box.”
The pink hair girl responded faster than anyone else who was in shock.
“Are we dead?”
The teacher would grin sending a chill down my spine then after one word.
"Maybe?"
Mr Lloyd would snap his fingers and suddenly the room began to expand, and change colors. Lots of light began to reflect everywhere, with all of this happening within the fraction of a second the light show ended with a flash.
Closing my eyes I open them slowly with light slowly entering my eye, and allowing the reflection to reveal the truth around me. As far as I could see all I saw was an orange sky, and a destroyed city around me with some fire here and there.
Despite my trembling, I looked around to see a red dot coming from a shadow created between two collapsed buildings. The dot was soon joined by five more then after hearing cracking glass I saw a blur leaving behind red lines and there it was before me.
“That’s one creepy bug.”
Now standing before me was a giant robot like centipede with murderous intent, and here I was with no powers.
