Dusky Biscuit and the Book of Wonders

Chapter zero

The beginning of a forgotten tale

The earth is trembling, rumbling deep,

Awakening from its ancient sleep.

The seas are restless, tides rise high,

Crashing waves beneath a stormy sky.

The winds howl with a fury untamed,

A primal force that can't be named.

Nature's roar, a cry, a call,

As chaos reigns and shadows fall.

Five souls to craft a single tome,

Each a spark, a voice, a home.

Bound together, whispers entwine,

Pages bloom from hands divine.

One lone soul to bear its weight,

A keeper of fate, of love, of hate.

Through shadows deep, through fire bright,

Carrying their stories into night.

It began with Zarathor, the Scourge of the Abyss, as he plunged the world of magic and sorcery into darkness. This malevolent being, cloaked in shadows and wielding unfathomable power, declared war on all living creatures, unleashing chaos upon the world of the Land Beyond. His dark legions, armed with fangs and claws, advanced with ruthless precision, intent on destroying, conquering and establishing an eternal dominion—a realm of perpetual night of anguish and despair.

Isdonia was the first kingdom to fall. Known for their bravery and resilience, its people defended their homeland with unyielding strength. Different races of knights and mages united, their combined might illuminating the battlefield, known as the battle of Morgath. But even their fierce resistance could not withstand the onslaught. Zarathor’s forces, bearing black banners, blotted out the sun. The fall of Isdonia marked the beginning of a relentless campaign, with one nation after another succumbing to the darkness. Countless lives were lost, their cries echoing through the shadowed skies.

Those who resisted faced a fate worse than death. Cursed and enslaved, they became the Fallen—shadowy remnants bound to the dark master’s will. Others, paralyzed by fear, and those who were willing, bowed to him as their god and emperor. The once-vibrant Land Beyond was swallowed by darkness.

Amid this turmoil, a fragile hope emerged—a prophecy of a savior destined to bring salvation. Yet, the foretold hero, meant to wield unimaginable power, never appeared. The prophecy, once a beacon of hope, became a bitter reminder of salvation that never came.

As Zarathor's reign tightened, desperation grew. In a final bid to stop him, five great mages from across the world united: Thalric Stormbinder, Eldric Ravenshadow, Harieth Flameweaver, Magnus Nightfall, and Seraphina Moonshade. Masters of their respective elements, they combined their knowledge and power to forge the 'Book of Wonders.' They sacrificed their very souls, infusing the book with their essence. This tome held the key to defeating the Scourge of the Abyss—a compendium of spells and incantations capable of sealing the dark lord away forever.

A nameless warrior, with his unmatched strength and unbreakable resolve, was chosen in secrecy to wield the book. Bearing the weight of the world and a promise to his love, Seraphina, he embarked alone on a perilous journey to confront the calamity. His path, fraught with danger and shadowed by defenders of the dark, led him to Mount Inferno—a fiery mountain belching molten rock and magma.

In a climactic battle, the nameless warrior faced Zarathor, unleashing the full power of the 'Book.' The earth quaked, the skies darkened, and the seas roared as their epic struggle reached its peak. With a final, desperate incantation, "Sigillum Divinum Mille Manuum!" the warrior sealed the dark lord within the fiery depths of Mount Inferno. Even in defeat, Zarathor’s voice echoed, "I shall reclaim what is mine!" vowing to return and reign once more.

Though Zarathor was vanquished, his malice still lingered upon the land—a dark stain corrupting the world. The warrior and the 'Book' vanished, their fates unknown. The world fell into a fragile peace, ever watchful for the day Zarathor’s vow might come true. The tale of the nameless warrior and the book became a story of hope and caution, a reminder of the darkness still lurking in the shadows.

But as time passed, history melded into legend, and legend into myth. For hundreds of years, the story of the nameless warrior and the book faded from memory, leaving only the names of the five great mages to endure throughout the ages. Their deeds were celebrated by all, while the nameless warrior’s legacy became a whisper of a time when heroes walked the earth and dark forces threatened to consume it all.
