[Prologue] The Echo's of Eldoris

Eldoris knew that her time was running out. Despite being capable of many great feats, she was among the lowest of those at her power level. A world's will that had yet to blossom. Of those like her, many had long since blossomed on their own. Perhaps in another Mega-annum or two she would have blossomed, but she knew the others wouldn't give her that time. Eldoris had just begun to see sentient creatures among her population in the last couple thousand years, but now she was being faced with an ultimatum. Either act now risking death, or wait for the others to enslave her to their will.

Eldoris knew she would rather have a bittersweet death than live shackled with the chains of servitude.

----------------------------------------

A ripple in a pond, that was all it could describe what it was feeling. It was as if it was floating freely in a pond, and now something was disturbing the water, interrupting the otherwise still water. It couldn't see or feel anything in the dark besides small waves rocking into its body, but with time the waves had grown large enough to encompass it in the equivalence of water.

With time the water began to slow and then still, making it think that it was going to return to the previous stillness of before, but soon it could sense another presence approaching, one generating a pressure on its surroundings just by existing.

The presence glides towards it steadily, the black and green shape slowly taking on more detail as it gets closer. The black gave way to what appeared to be clothes covering a large portion of its body, and the green gave way to what appeared to be its hair and skin. Soon the distant figure was close enough finer details.

The clothes, or what had earlier appeared to be clothes, were actually bark and vines that were burnt and were nothing more than charcoal. The edges of the vines still kissed with a fierce red, the embers of a dying fire. Underneath lay the lighter green of a newborn leaf, a stark contrast to her dark green hair.

Her eyes though, golden pools of hazel, captured its attention the most. A sense of relief seemed to flood her eyes as it watched her come to a stop before it.

'Hello.' The words seemed to bounce around softly inside its mind, friendly but foreign.

A momentary pause before it continued, 'I just checked most of your memories, so it won't really do too much good to converse with you, you don't have anything but fragments from before, pieces that haven't been completely wiped away from your memory yet. But I'm not like the others, I don't see you as a tool. I need help, and you are the third soul I've found that might be able to help. I will reincarnate you into my world, and when you are developed, we will talk about the situation, but right now I just need to know if you are willing to help. I don't have all that much time to find as many souls as possible.'

The flood of words laced with enough worry and fear to nearly overwhelm its mind resounded again and again. So far she seemed to have been a relatively considerate being, for as much as it could remember. It knew others would have forced it to do something whereas this one asked at least. It didn't know if it actually had a choice, but the semblance of choice seemed considerate at least. Moreover, it felt that it should help where it could, as there was nothing to lose, not like it was doing anything anyways.

It didn't know how, but when it officially decided to agree, the woman in front of him knew instantly. With a small motion of her hand, it felt as if it was shot off by a cannon. If earlier he thought of the place it was in as a pool, not it knew it was the size of an ocean, if not larger. It seemed to fly straight for eternity, and for each second that it flew, it grew more and more drowsy until it eventually succumbed to its equivalent of sleep.

A/N: This is an original work that is not published anywhere but RoyalRoad. It is but the start of one of the many stories I plan to include under my Penname, all will contribute to this universe. One story orientated around legends will actually be a DnD campaign in one of the worlds in this universe. I understand this is a short chapter, but I look forward to writing more for not only my enjoyment, but all of you readers as well. Criticism is welcome, hate it not. Any art is created by AI, as I am an author not an artist by any means. Anything in this story besides that is my own creative work. It's been a few years since I've written so it will take me a while to get back into my rhythm. Additionally, here is the image I'm working with Eldoris around.
