Chapter 2
Monsters are the Rulers of the World
A bang echoed throughout the room as a fist smashed a sword into pieces. Slashing sounds soon followed to cut down their foe, but to no avail. A woman with scarlet hair rushes towards another with icy blue hair as she creates another ice sword. As soon as the woman with scarlet hair entered the range of her swords, she made a horizontal slash to cut her in half. However, her assailant merely flipped into the air with the movements of an acrobatic and gave her a flaming spin kick that was promptly blocked with the flat end of her sword. The kick, however, still knocked her a few feet back.
The woman with icy blue hair ran ahead by kicking the ground repeated to speed herself up. Once she had approached the other, she side-stepped and brought about a flurry of sword slashes onto her opponent with ever increasing speed. A few hit, but most were avoided through precise footwork and a few acrobatic moves. Despite how aggressive the swordswoman was, she still suffered from a few punches and kicks that were able to bypass her flurry of swords. The final collision between her sword and her kick had knocked them both back a few meters.
Once more, the swordsman charged towards her adversary but this time she did a spin jump that turned her blades into a tempest. Her opponent had no choice but to dodge or be sliced in half. The swordswoman stopped herself with an arced skid across the ground before continuing her tempest of blades again. This time, however, the tempest was arced and was slashing horizontal towards the ground in order to prevent any side-steps this time. Left with no other choice, the scarlet haired woman had to jump into the air to avoid the attack. Unfortunately, the swordsman had altered her stance in mid-air in order to slash her leg before she could escape her range. The yelp of her opponent confirmed that her attack had been successful this time as she skidded across the ground.
Now that her leg is injured, the scarlet haired woman had to call it quits. Not that it ended in her defeat as the swordswoman was dangerously low in health from the blows she received. The women fighting each other are none other than the twins Snow and Flare. They have been sparring in order to increase their skill in melee combat.
Snow: *Phew* “That was a good workout.”
I say while wiping the sweat off my brow.
Flare: *pant* “Tell me about it. You got me good at the end.”
My sister exhaustedly replies while trying to catch her breath.
Snow: “Barely. I was almost forced to end the match due to all the punches and kicks you gave me. I nearly died!”
I grin towards my little sister. She has been improving at an incredible rate with that duelist class of hers. I can barely keep up with her.
Flare: “You act like all those bleed statuses you gave me were doing nothing. It was getting difficult to fight properly due to the anemia.”
Snow: “Lucky me. If you were not hindered at all, I might have lost again.”
Every day for the past few days, we have been sparring to improve out combat skills. We needed to be fully prepared when we explore the dungeons of other players. Conveniently, training skills related to your class is also a method of gaining lvls, albeit less efficient than just killing monsters. Of course, skills won’t level up through training unless you spend skill points.
As for our stats, agility is extremely important as it determines how fast we move and even how fast our spells move. All physical stats except dexterity increases ki while all magic stats increase mana, but vitality/intelligence gives double the amount of other stats. Intelligence increases magic damage and mana capacity, wisdom increases mana regen and cast speed, mind increases magic resist, strength increases physical damage and weight limit, vitality increases hp/ki and recovery of hp/ki, endurance increases stamina and defense, agility increases run/attack/magic-attack speed, and dexterity increases accuracy and ranged weapon damage.
Speaking of skills, there are 2 types of skills you can obtain. First are exclusive skills that are only for specific races and classes. The other is general skills that anyone can learn. For example, my twin swordsman class gives me the ambidextrous skill that completely negates the damage and speed penalty for dual wielding (normally, the dominant hand will be at 70% effectiveness while the weaker hand is at 55%). Otherwise, you have to train the general dual-wielding skill in order to reduce those penalties.
Elemental magic classes all gain a mana manipulation specifically for their elements. You can gain skills when you manipulate an element in a certain way, but it is unnecessary as mana manipulation is purely controlled through imagination and the only difference will be how much mana you pour into the spell. It is still useful to have the skills as they list the runic letters, hex symbol, and aria in order to cast the spell without directly manipulating the elements.
All elemental magic has a counter element that can negate or nullify its own element in some way, yet can also become extremely powerful if melded or fused together. Light vs darkness, fire vs ice, water vs lightning, and wind vs earth. Fusing the elements is the goal of most mages as it is the next step after accomplishing melded magic and fusing opposing elements is an even greater accomplishment.
Light and darkness magic are 2 sides of the same coin and the symbolization of yin and yang. Under normal circumstances they can never coexist in the same spot at the same time, but can merge into creation/destruction magic and yin-yang perfect body. Of course, obtaining such abilities by fusing light and darkness is nigh impossible even if you tried.
Fire and ice are the manipulation of heat energy and cold energy respectively. By nature, they mutually negate each other. In rare cases, however, a flame can be cold and ice can burn. It may be weird that water does not defeat fire, but that is because fire magic is not purely about flames and can just use water itself for its magic. Same for ice magic as it can utilize anything as a conduit for spells, but water is the easiest medium.
Water and lightning are the weird opposing elements as they can both defeat and counter each other depending on the degree of purity for their elements. Water is normally weak to lightning as it conducts electricity, but pure water is non-conductive. Against pure water, lightning has no choice but to pierce it as if it’s a sturdy wall. Water currents charged with electricity might seem like a fusion of the elements but it isn’t and is just melded together. A true fusion will likely be between pure water and pure lightning, but this is only theoretical as such a spell has never been made before.
Wind and earth is a battle of freedom vs stagnancy. Neither can defeat the other as air can simply avoid the earth and the earth is an unmovable mountain before air. It is a never-ending battle that is both futile and pointless. A melded magic of these elements is possible (sand storms), but nobody has been able to do a complete fusion of wind and earth.
In addition to sparring, we have also been expanding our dungeon to have 5 rows of 5 rooms that are all separated by a 10x5m hallway. Only exception was that we built a large pond starting from the bottom-middle room that is connected to our dungeon heart room and extends all the way to the walls of the top-middle room. All of the tiles that surrounds the water has been made of icefire blocks so it also burned up our mana a lot.
I don’t really know why, but the water here tastes really good. All of the monsters in our dungeon prefer to use it as drinking water instead of other sources of water. Eva said it’s because of the mana density in the water being obscenely high for some odd reason, but she doesn’t know why either. I guess even the goddess of this world can be stumped with new things. Maybe it’s because of the icefire blocks? Perhaps we should test this later when we have the time.
We have also added a greater variety of plants as well. Some red and blue flowers that are ingredients for making potions were added in various rooms. Herbs that seem to help with frozen and burned status effects have also been spread around. All of which is made into various potions by Valeria as crafters always make better items and the best a non-crafter can hope for is not creating poison. We tried and we failed. Hard.
With the completion of the basic layout for our 1st floor and our training, we head back to our dungeon heart. On the way we cross paths with the product of Valeria’s experiments. She was able to turn those slimes into gels which are similar to slimes in appearance, but they feel like jello. They even taste like jello. Gels seem to have an ability to separate some of their bodies into inorganic substance for us to consume as a snack, but they have to give up on their own reproduction to do so. I would have never tried to eat one if not for Farris’ insistence that they were delicious. Geez, kids these days are so reckless in what they decide to eat.
Gels aren’t a higher rank of slime, but a new species altogether (kinda like how dogs, wolves, and foxes are all canines). Another notable difference between the two species is that gels are more intelligent and like to interact with others. Some of the monsters like to lie on top of a heat gel or cold gel due to how refreshing it is to be in contact with one. Even an air gel can give you a nice, comfy breeze when they sit on top of your head. Personally, I would like to replace all the slimes with gels as they are superior in every way.
We have also been expanding our home room a bit and it now extends to 50x50m. The dungeon master ability to create and modify a dungeon is shared by everyone in-game even if they don’t own a dungeon. It’s convenient, but we had to use the dungeon heart’s mana for a few things such as creating complex things like seeds. We can also use it to make buildings, weapons, armor, etc without the necessary crafting classes, but that is usually a waste of mana.
Strangely enough, we can even make those gels now that Valeria has made a few for us, but only the types of gels she has made. Not that we would as they will naturally double every hour in order to compensate for being one of the most highly sought out delicacies in the dungeon. Poor gels! We might need a way to fight obesity later on…
Another interesting group of monsters in our dungeon are the squirrels we took in. The kids had brought a few decks of cards to play with and the squirrels quickly took up gambling. Even now you may find a few of them having a stare down in a fate deciding duel that will decide who has the most acorns. Most squirrels will scream out, bang their heads, and walk away in shame. Only one will pump their fists in the air as they happily vocalize their victory.
I wonder when squirrels learned to read, much less play cards. Actually, since when do cards exist in a medieval world? That is a question that may never be answered.
It’s because of the squirrels begging for more decks of cards that we had to burn a lot of our refined mp from our dungeon heart in order to make custom decks of cards for the squirrels and make a few tree stumps for them to play on. It is fun to watch them though, so I will let it slide. Especially when they utterly crush Arsen every time he challenges them. He never gives up and always swears for his revenge as he walks away while the squirrels are rolling on the ground laughing at him.
Although the bees have already made several nests, they are really territorial. Unlike animal type monsters, they only obey their queen and will kill anyone else on sight. Their breeding capacity even comes close to the rabbits so there are an absurd amount of pinky-sized bees flying around in some areas. If not for the honey, I might have considered crafting beecubes. The honeycubes were a nice substitute though.
Once we arrived in our dungeon heart room, we pulled up a list of other dungeons that are open to the public for live training experience. Most dungeons seemed low level, but there were a few that had a maximum recommended level of 15+. Out of the choices, we decided on a dungeon called purgatory. It seemed like one of those undead dungeons and you can’t call yourself an adventurer unless you have killed a zombie.
After a quick goodbye, a couple pettings, another victorious squirrel, and a vengeance threat we had finally disappeared in a flash of light.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Appearing from within a flash a light, we find ourselves inside a huge graveyard. There are tombstones and shovels everywhere. A few crypts here and there that looked old and decrepit. The stench in the air made us want to jump off a cliff, but we came prepared with clothespins (the ultimate anti-zombie artifact).
All around us are a horde of zombies just staring at us as if we interrupted their morning stroll. We stared back at them like we were a bunch of deer caught in the headlights. This continued for a few seconds and then for a few minutes. No matter how long we waited, they never budged an inch.
Flare: “What is this? A staring contest?” Beside me, she puts her hands on her hips and glares at the zombies. You know you can’t beat something that never gets tired right?
Snow: “Only animals do staring contests.”
Flare: “No, only animals attack if you lose a staring contest.”
Snow: “Details, details.” Waving off my sister, I take a closer look at the hundreds of zombies around us. It gives me a bad feeling that we are surrounded by zombies that do nothing but stare at us.
Flare: *sigh* Anyways, should we just kill them since they are doing nothing?
Snow: “Nah, waste of mana. They are all only like lvl 1-3. Let’s go find something more appetizing to kill.” Hopefully they won’t bite us as we walk past them. I enjoy the feeling of not rotting from the inside out.
???: *shing* “Interesting choice of words mademoiselle.”
Out of nowhere, I feel a dagger placed against my neck. My sister and I were both alarmed by the black cloaked man who got behind us without our noticing. My heart starts pumping faster as I contemplate how to get out of this without dying.
Snow: “Isn’t it a little too soon for the dungeon master to come out? Normally, we would go through the convoluted process of a bunch of heros surviving arduous trials until they finally reach and slay the demon lord. You are kinda breaking protocol here.” I casually speak towards my assailant in a criticizing tone. Don’t you villains know Demon Lord 101? Granted, all demon lords tend to die because of that.
???: “Hahahaha! Sorry, but this isn’t that kind of story. It’s much more convenient to kill up and coming heros before they can gain a single level.” With his declaration, the dagger against my throat looms closer and nicks me. Crimson red blood drips down my neck as he licks his dagger clean. Is this guy a vampire?
Flare: “What if we aren’t heros?”
???: “Ho? So you consider yourselves villains?”
Flare: “Might as well be with the discrimination and all that garbage.” My sister shrugs after saying so.
???: “Hmm, you two young ladies wouldn’t happen to be dungeon masters would you?”
Snow: “Perhaps. Maybe. Kinda. Sorta. Possibly.”
???: “You know, most people give a concrete answer when their life is on the line.”
Snow: “You know, most assassins kill people without being noticed instead of striking up a conversation with their prey.”
???: “Touché!” *fwish* With a brief twirl of his dagger, it has already been sheathed back to his waist. “Well as you may have noticed, I am not out to explicitly kill everyone who lurks into my dungeon. I, Vladimir, am a recruiter of sorts for the Lucifer’s Feathers, an underground dungeon alliance of sorts.”
Looking towards our assailant, I can see that he is in fact a vampire. He has pale skin, silvery white hair, long fangs, and ruby colored eyes. Garbed in a black cloak, he appears mysterious and his face gives off a certain gentleman vibe. Definitely a lady killer, but this isn’t some vampire chick flick.
Flare: “Alliance?”
Vlad: “As most dungeons have issues with surviving their first days of letting intruders inside, a need for some order has arisen. We help a little with the elimination of troublesome existences that I am sure you have witnessed.”
Snow: “Like the Agni priests?”
Vlad: “Especially them. Can never kill enough priests, but unfortunately it’s also a trap to kill them.” He sighs as if reminiscing his past troubles.
Flare: “How can it be a trap?”
Vlad: “You know how the Church of Agni is the only church that outright hates us right? Basically, they can kill us and never gain infamy but we do if we kill them. Once we get infamy, every church will pretty much consider us as villains and will hunt us down. At first it was just the Agni priests obstructing us, but now 2 other churches are assisting them from the sidelines should we appear. It’s quite annoying actually.”
Snow: “Figures.”
Flare: “Forget about that, what do we kill to gain exp? Our own dungeon needs to develop and I am assuming it’s bad for there to be dungeon vs dungeon pvp. I wanna kill something!”
I rub my temples while listening to this little sister of mine. She is such a thrill seeker….
Vlad: “Isn’t it obvious?” With a twirl, he snaps his fingers. “All we have to do is kill those annoying priests for our precious experience.”
Snow: “Isn’t that-“
Vlad: “Dangerous? Who cares? All you get is a penalty if you die and maybe some time in prison.”
Snow: “Bu-“
Flare: “Let’s go have some fun sis. Hurry and open the portal mister vampire.”
Vlad: “As you wish, mademoiselle.”
With my sister dragging me by my arm, I was being forcefully dragged away. I tried to resist, but Vlad took my other arm and overpowered me. They then did a group jump straight into the portal while carrying me. One of these days I need to figure out how to relax in peace.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inside a forest covered in shade, a portal appears and spits out a group of people. A black cloaked young man nimble lands on his legs while the women fall on their butts. The females were a little frustrated and slightly embarrassed, but they still begrudgingly accepted a hand to help them up. After quickly dusting themselves off, they got a look at their surroundings.
Snow: “For future reference, can we not recklessly jump into unstable rifts in space and time.”
Ugh, my body feels woozy. It’s like I thrown in a washing machine spinning at the speed of light while moving on top of a roller coaster that has exceeded mach 10.
Flare: “Ditto.”
Vlad: “Seemed fine to me.”
Snow: “Because you aren’t even alive.”
If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.
Vlad: “You shouldn’t knock things until you try it. You have never lived until you have unlived.”
Snow: “I rather not. Vampire stories has kind of left a bad taste in my mouth and most just takes a dump on the werewolf guys just for kicks. Biased writers.”
Flare: “Yeah, I like the werewolves. They’re fluffy!”
Vlad: “You’re passing on the ideal of immortality and blood-filled pleasure just for fluffiness?”
Flare: “Of course!”
Vlad: “I don’t even…”
In a mixture of confusion and helplessness, Vlad throws his arms up in the air and goes to sulk in a corner of the shade. Hah! That’s what you get for thinking you can just pick up women with a well sought out race.
Flare: “Rather than that, shouldn’t we be more concerned about the priests in the plains.”
Snow: “Yeah, they are just blatantly patrolling the area like they own it. Remind me again how we are going to kill them without reinforcements coming to kill us?”
Vlad: *Hah* “All we are going to do is a quick kill, capture, and run strategy. As a necromancer, corpses are very important to advance my dungeon and there is no better corpse than a priest. You see that group over there? I will kill the holy assassin looking guy first while you 2 take care of the paladin and the priest. Be careful though since we don’t know their fighting styles.”
Snow: “We’ll be fine, but what about you? It’s shady over here, but the sun isn’t just going to let you waltz out there.”
Vlad: “Not an issue with a bit of dark magic. [Devour the light and plunge me into absolute darkness. Shadow Coat.]”
Once his chant was completed, shadows started to converge and cover his entire body. It looked like a full body armor made completely out of darkness. But how do you see?
Vlad: “Good luck and don’t die.”
Flare: “Try to avoid getting sun burnt Mr. Vampire.”
Snow: “Don’t die in a ditch somewhere.”
Vlad: “How cold…”
Now that our preparations are finished, Vlad stealthily snuck out and prepared to backstab the holy assassin. We, too, didn’t fall behind and moved towards our targets as we waited for Vlad to attack first. I am going to have a fight with the priest while my little sister will have a brawl with the paladin.
The sound of a clang rang out as Vlad’s preemptive strike was blocked by the holy assassin. I shot forth a lance made out of ice while the priest conjured a light barrier to protect himself. Flare had charged straight at the paladin to land a punch, but was parried by his long hammer.
Looking at the priest, I can tell this will be a hard fight as he is lvl 15. I may be only lvl 6, but my enhanced magical stats should put me almost on par with him as long as he doesn’t turn this into a physical brawl.
That was what I thought until he started casting fire magic to block my ice magic. Considering equal power, opposing elements will cancel each other out. The worst part is that he has both light and fire manipulation so he can use melded/fusion magic without chanting compared to me.
Priest: “Dungeon dwelling scum, did you honestly believe you could defeat our faith?”
The priest speaks with arrogance in his voice as he has already claimed his victory.
Snow: “Actually, I do.”
Priest: “Hah? Are you high? This is undeniably my victory.”
Snow: “Oh, I am not talking about the fight but your faith. Let me guess how your church does things. In the name of religion you will outright murder others for not agreeing to your ideals even if they are innocents. Not to mention that if anyone fights back and kills a priest of your church, they then become criminals that will be hunted down and sent to prison.”
Although it’s probably a waste of time to argue with a priest that has probably been brainwashed, it might be fun to insult their religion a little. Who knows how corrupt the church is behind closed doors anyways.
Priest: “Innocents? There is no such thing as innocence when one sides with monsters. Your kind is as much of a menace to the world as the monsters themselves. No, your kind is even worse! They lead armies of monsters to assault kingdoms out of thin air and conquer the throne. Countless people have died and many kingdoms have fallen by the hands of you dungeon masters.”
Wait what? You mean this church has actual reasons for harassing us instead of a misguided belief in some god? Tch, I wanted to hear about their dirty deeds.
Snow: “I’m surprised (and disappointed). I thought all churches were filled with corrupted fanatics.”
Priest: “Corruption or not, monsters are the cause of all of our devastation. Not even tyrannical kings can cause so much suffering. The world would be better off if monsters cease to exist as decreed by our god.”
Snow: “And that is where your faith has gone wrong. Not all dungeons are out to conquer the world. Hell, not all dungeons have monsters. Some even use dungeons as an easy source of money as resources and monster materials are able to constantly grow in number unlike the world outside of a dungeon. If you tried, you could have made an alliance with some dungeons.”
Priest: “Even so, we can’t take that risk. Too much has been lost to simply let you live. The terrors unleashed by another fully developed dungeon may bring about the end of humanity.”
Snow: “Then I guess there is no choice but to fight for our own ideals.”
Priest: “For the world, I will kill you.”
I raised my ice swords as he raised his staff and kicked off the ground towards him. Utilizing my agility, I was able to dodge all of the fireballs and light arrows aimed at me. Unfortunately, he decided to burn the ground and increase the height of the surrounding flames to force me to charge through them. Resolving myself, I coated my body in a thin film of frost and kept replacing the parts that melted away as I went through wall after wall of flames.
It hurts. The burns that I suffered were greater than I imagined, but I have finally reached this priest that is smirking as he is now aiming a big fireball at me. Without a moment to lose, I kicked off the ground to avoid the giant fireball shot towards me and shot a torrent of ice particles at the priest.
He was able to block it with a light shield, but was unable to stop my incoming blade tempest. A line of blood was sprayed as a diagonal cut appeared on his chest. No additional blood was released as my swords clad in icy aura had frozen everything it touched. His face had become pale due to the cold permeating inside of his body.
I gave him no time to heal himself and continued my barrage of attacks as he tried to counter me. We were both near dead and was about to end the match until a dreadful roar shook the very ground we were standing on. Everyone had paused their fights to look in the distance to see the sky turning black. No, something or more precisely many things were flying towards the human city at a ridiculous speed.
A being that humans can never fight against lest they be destroyed! A being that terrifies the most brutal and cruelest of monsters that ravaged the lands! A being that is the embodiment of pride and power! Dragons!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Flare’s POV)
I used my flame jets to quickly approach the muscular old man and conjured a condensed fireball in front of my fist to explode when I punched towards his face, but he parried my arm with that long hammer of his. Ow! I think I got a bone fracture from that.
Even so I started flying, dodging, punching, and kicking all around him by using my fire jets to easily reposition myself. He lacked the speed to keep up with me, so he couldn’t dodge or block most of my attacks. Uh-oh! I think I burned his mustache. It looked real nice too, but now it is only half of what it was. RIP mustache.
Muscular old man with half a mustache suddenly started moving quicker although not as quick as me. I guess he liked that mustache of his. Should we give the mustache a burial? I did just cremate it after all.
As I was contemplating various things about the recently departed mustache, my mana was decreasing rapidly just to maintain my fire jets. None of my fire bangs left any lasting damage as the paladin was capable of healing himself. Since I don’t want my face to greet his hammer, I decided to pour a quarter of my mana into a punch and fired it straight at his face.
A loud bang blasted us both away from each other. Mr. Old man skipped across the ground 3 times before coming to a stop. I wanted more skips though. As for me, I did a cartwheel to absorb most of the force.
As the muscular old man got back up, his entire mustache was not gone. Even his eyebrows and eyelashes are now deceased. He kept trying to heal himself, but not a single hair grew back. Accepting the true reality of his situation, he collapsed onto his knees and started crying. I feel bad for him. I wonder if he would invite me to the funeral later. Probably not.
Before we could get our thoughts in order, a roar shook the ground. Both of us stopped what we are doing and looked towards the sky where the roar came from. The sky looked as if it was squirming as the specks got bigger. As they approached the city, we recognized what they were. They were dragons!
But I don’t have any mana to fight a dragon right now! Maybe they will be nice enough to let me fly on their backs? Last game I tried that ended up with the top half of my body becoming a snack. Perhaps these guys will be nicer.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Snow’s PoV)
Priest: “To think that the black dragon of annihilation would attack so soon.”
Vlad: *sigh* “It looks like it would benefit both sides if we retreat. No good will come out of getting in their way.”
The priests of Agni were frustrated that they no longer had the time to eliminate us, but they quickly composed themselves as they had better things to do. The city needed to be evacuated. Before anyone realized it, the holy assassin was no longer among us.
Flare: “Are they really that strong? This city looks big enough to have at least a few powerful people to protect it.”
Paladin: “If only that was enough. Dragons are not within the realm of man to deal with and especially a swarm of that size.”
The fleet of dragons moving at ridiculous speeds had already reached the city and began to lay waste to what once used to be human civilization. Buildings were crushed and houses were set on fire. Men, women, and children were screaming in terror and agony as they were being eaten alive. Even though the plains is a little ways off, the scene of carnage was ghastly.
Vlad had already returned to his rift dungeon. The holy assassin had returned covered in wounds with a couple of young children in hands. They were covered in soot and seem to be unconscious. Wondering what they were going to do, I asked them concerned for their wellbeing.
Snow: “You guys are going to escape right? It won’t take those dragons long to finish with the city and come here.”
Priest: “Even if we ran, we would never be able to escape from their sense of smell. Everything within miles of this city will become a wasteland.”
Flare: “That’s….” Looking unsettled, my little sister wanted to say something but couldn’t find the words to say.
Paladin: “Although it would go against our faith, should we give the kids to these ladies? Someone must survive to carry on our legacy.”
Priest: “Perhaps. Even though it pains me to say this, can we leave the future of our church in your hands?”
Snow: “That’s fine and all, but why can’t all of you come with us? There is enough room in our dungeon you know.”
Priest: “Simply put, we would rather die with our brothers and sisters and hopefully kill at least one of those bastards.”
Paladin: “Mostly killing the bastards. It’s practically a dragon bargain sale over there!”
Priest: “True enough.” With a smile, he continues speaking. “Mithra, watch over the little ones and teach them everything you know.”
The holy assassin nods and walks towards us. After a few more parting words, we opened a portal to our dungeon and walked towards it. A loud thud followed by a splashing sound made us look back. Behind us was a 20m tall dragon that had sliced the paladin in half.
In a panic, the priest casted one last spell but was crushed by the dragon’s paw upon completion. That last spell saved our lives as a pulse of light knocked us through the portal before we could be killed.
Upon arriving in our dungeon and quickly closing the portal, we all tried to get our bearings from the unstable teleportation. Even though we were enemies, they were still good guys in their own weird ways. I might miss that priest.
Eva, Farris, Fayyim, Valeria, and Arsen had come to see what was wrong. Seeing us covered in wounds made them panic a little. Valeria started pulling out potions and forcing down our mouths even though we could drink by ourselves. Arsen was trying to converse with the assassin, but he stopped after only receiving 1 word answers at best. He simply showed him to their house where we have all been staying. That house will need some expansions soon.
Farris and Fayyim were extremely worried about us, but we told them we were fine. They didn’t buy it so I asked them to watch over the kids that were rescued which they reluctantly complied to do so. Eva said nothing the whole time as she was sitting in mid-air, but she probably knows everything that goes on in the world.
As everyone is tired after that ordeal, we decided to rest for a bit. If what the priest said when we were fighting is true, then there are probably very few cities left on the world that hasn’t been destroyed by monsters. Is this world coming to an end?

Author's Note
Sorry about the wait. I have been reading dozens of fictions, web novels, and light novels instead of writing lately.
I have decided to change how stats work a little compared to when i just started, but that is a minor detail since this is only the 3rd chapter.
Also, I have been having trouble thinking of good names for villains like the dragon of annihilation. Anyone got any ideas?
