Chapter 5 – Ivy – First blood

Life was never simple. After hours with no delvers, now a second arrived while the first was only partway through.

“Evelyn, I’ll focus on our new visitor and let you keep your focus here.”

After a distracted nod from Evelyn, Ivy appeared near the doorway once more. She flinched back instinctively as a large boar, which seemed to have a leafy bush stuck around its midriff, thundered by down the first corridor. A sharp crack, crash and squealing followed, as Ivy saw the boar fall out of sight within the first room.

Tentatively, Ivy peered into the pit trap, as the squeals started to grow weak and trembling. The metallic scent of blood wafted up as she saw the perforated boar’s eyes go glassy. Now seeing it stationary, Ivy could tell rather than carrying a bush, the boar’s midriff seemed to be covered in soil and wrapped in vines. Even as she watched, the leaves withered from vibrant green to autumnal brown as the vines died.

The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.

She’d never seen anything like it. Some part of her knew it should bother her, but it just didn’t. Like those situations where crying was expected but tears never came to her eyes. She wasn’t a vegetarian or anything but she knew that a violent death like this shouldn’t just leave her feeling numb. This must be that “supervisor’s” meddling, “unhelpful” emotions removed to help her do her job.

Still, no time to ruminate on that now. The boar; vines, soil and all, began melting into the floor as the dungeon absorbed the now lifeless material. At least the dungeon would have a new template, if they survived the [ranger].
