It is Xavier's 17th birthday as well as his death day. Throughout his life he has just had bad luck; first he is and orphan, second he lives in one of the worst places possible (the continent of Origines), and third he was never able to get ahead or accomplish his dreams, all he managed to do was live to the ripe old age of seventeen. Just as the clock hit twelve marking his new year of life (or so he thought) he died, for no rhyme or reason, he just died. And as a half elf he expected more than that. Pure elves can live 3000 years without needing any realm breakthroughs, and half elves usually lived between 1500 and 2000 years without any realm breakthroughs. However, there is no time to dwell on his life as he appears to be going somewhere. He was lifted from his body and transported across continents until he got to Tanzar, the continent that just happened to be the farthest away from Origines and now he is wondering what to do.
He is floating and cannot go anywhere or do anything, "is this really the afterlife" he thought almost reverently. However, his next words quickly ruined the mood as Xavier said, "cause that would fucking suck, do I really have to sit here doing nothing for a bajillion years, honestly whatever god thought this up is a retard whose godship should be removed" those seemed to be the magic words as he was quickly blinded and yelled at by an excruciatingly bright light, "WHAT DO YOU MEAN THIS SUCKS, YOU GET TO GAZE UPON ME AND MY SIBLINGS CREATION FOR ETERNITY." His voice then shifted to a proud tone as he said, "and nothing is more perfect than our creation."
Then purely out of spite Xavier said, "Well I have never been fond of just sitting around and doing nothing, so to me this really isn't bliss or perfection, more along the lines of hell." Xavier knew just what to say to pluck this beings strings "Then screw it, would you like to spin the wheel of reincarnation, I have to warn anything below a god is possible. You could even end up as a tree." Xavier couldn’t believe his ears, after dying and being sent around the world he was going to be discarded with the spin of a wheel "Woah, woah, woah, you can’t just send me off like that who are you?" However this god of sorts was having none of it so he promptly said, "Can and will, now spin the wheel I don’t have all day you know, souls to see, people to torture, so hurry up" At this point Xavier had given up, thus he settled on a simple "Okay, whatever."
So, he did spin the wheel and he saw many options he liked, he even could have become a dragon but unfortunately, he was denied that privilege. It spun and spun until eventually it landed on dungeon. "A dungeon, really, what can a dungeon even do?" The god replied rather slyly, “Oh you have no idea, this should be some good entertainment, well no matter, adios” After this god like being said "adios" he was swiftly pulled into a selection screen
Select 1 species to inhabit your dungeon
Description Beasts Can be found in any part of the world but strengths very greatly, anything from a mouse to a basilisk, offers massive versatility. NO BONUS GIVEN Undead
Conjured from dead bodies, automatic negative alignment with holy factions, anything from zombie to skeleton lord. LARGE BONUS (automatic target for destruction by holy factions and adventurer organization)
Spirits Spirits of nature or destruction. Most often found places of extreme nature variant mana. Low variety coincides to elements. MEDIUM BONUS (starts out very weak and easy to destroy) Humanoids
Any dungeon able to make races created by a god (elves, humans, dwarves, orcs) are immediately destroyed without mercy so now only sub species are allowed (kobolds etc.) Decent variety, NO BONUS
Stolen content warning: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences.
Elementals Very versatile, can take upon any element and eventually any shape. SMALL BONUS (can be difficult to maximize and are specifically targeted for the creation of magic staffs and wands Constructs Not found in nature, only made by sentient craftsman. Starts out weak in the beginning but progressively grows stronger. MEDIUM BONUS (slow start that enhances the vulnerable period)
Xavier quickly ruled out spirits and the undead as he had no wish to be targeted by all or be exclusively weak for a long period of time. The two he was deciding between was humanoids and beasts as they appealed the most but for separate reasons. Beasts had infinite potential and he longed to have legendary beasts in his dungeon, could you imagine having griffins, dragons, and krakens in your dungeon; however the humanoids were for a completely different reason, they gained sentience quicker and were more creative which is easily underestimated in strength. Imagine having a mul (dwarf human half breed)
Spoiler: Spoiler
Muls are a special case as elf and human halfbreeds are not allowed to be produced by a dungeon. Muls are sterile and unless given an extra push in the mental strength department they are dimwits.
that can create legendary weapons would also be wonderful. In the end however, he chose beasts and yet another screen popped up
Select starting type of beast Reptiles Avians Mammals Insects
Xavier figured that the only immediately useful types would be the reptiles and mammals, and as he had no desire to be Mr. generic he went with reptiles.
Then an almost robotic voice sounded "You have successfully selected the reptilian category of beasts, now select your starting location." and thankfully another table didn’t show up, it seemed that a description would suffice. "You can pick anywhere on the map not greyed out and immediately get more information on the are" Xavier then asked "what are the greyed out areas." "The greyed out areas are other dungeons in addition to a 1 kilometer buffer"
Xavier POV
These last few hours have been a whirlwind and now I am finally at the ending stages of the set up. The first places I look at are all plains of some sort and none of them give a defensive buff or access to rare creatures, so I turn my vision to the south. This part easily took the most time in the process but as this is permanent, and I would like to find the perfect place and I think I have found it. The place I have chosen is on the southwest part of the Tanzar continent. It is a at the base of the mountain with access to an underwater stream and even further below that is a magma stream; it is also very defensible as it will be going into a mountain. Don't think that just because I will be in the south that it will be a desert as the Tanzar continent its fairly far north, and because of this the place I will be residing in is a massive forest that also has the inhabitants of a small village. These geological reasons are not the main reason for this selection as any number of places could have fit these needs, the main reason I chose this place is because there is potential access to a rare type of snake called a Yanari viper that has a very potent poison, one I would love to evolve along with the snake. This place is in the territory the country Nafain, a human run country that has a not so small population of elves and dwarves. Hopefully this will be a place of fertility for my dungeon.
