Chapter 1 - The Begging Of Two Roads

Chapter 1 - The Begging Of Two Roads

'One minute I was nothing, I might have been something or someone?' As I looked around but that's not right as I could see all around me. I was a pure circle of black stone about the size of a fist that floated about 1.828 meters in the air. 'Why did I know that?' All of a sudden, a blue screen appeared with the noise of trumpets playing.

Congratulations Dungeon Core!

Good Luck Dungeon Core.

'Well that didn't help at all' I think, as I look around my room? It's wrong to call it a room it's more of a cave about 3 meters by 3 meters with a white archway that had some type of creatures carved in to the white stone. And with a gray veil covering the entrance, on the wall furthest wall from me. As I stare at this archway a small smoky, grey, glowing, ball flies into my cave. As I look at the ball it makes me feel hungry?

'Yes hungry and didn't the blue boxes say to grow so eating it should make me grow?' as I stare at the food. I wonder how to eat the food as I realize it's making noise.

Congratulation Dungeon Core!

You have learned a new language - Aflesh Common

After the blue box appeared, I could understand the food.

"Hahaha I got here first, I finally got a Dungeon I hope it's a smart one or has a good monster or maybe has fire mana" the food says in a light, chipper voice. As it bobs around my core as it keeps making those words.

"Hay are you awake yet?" Was the food speaking to me, does food normally talk? "Yo!" The food seemed to be annoyed? "Awake up, you can't sleep forever we need to get to work and we need to make a bond."

I look at the food as its smoky color turns slightly red. 'Is all food like this?' I wonder as I try to speak but nothing, as I try again to speak but I can't make the noise like the food. 'Well, that's unfair why can't I make a noise like the food!' as I glare at the food.

As I continue to glare at the food as I start to listen to its noise again. "Do you know how to talk?" it asks, as the food turns from its smoky red to a yellow tint. "Ok if you want to talk you need to push your words out, it's easy." It says in a chipper tone.

I try and push my words and no matter what the food said, it wasn't easy because how do you push words? It's more like focusing on the food and wanting it to hear.

"Can you hear me food?" As the food backs away quickly.

"Not so loud and I'm not food!" The food turns bright red and goes up and down faster than it's bobbing earlier, with its voice becoming angrily. I hope not all food is like this.

After a few more moments of aggressive bobbing, it moves to be level with my orb. "Ok I know you've just awakened so I will let the fact go that you call me food but I will tell you now if you want to survive you will need my help." It said in a calmer voice before containing. "So first thing first, let's make a bond and before you ask, it should make me safe from your monster or what else you might do, as well giving me mana. In return, you get access to my mana type as well as my knowledge. Also, my name is Cinder."

'That was a lot the foo- no Cinder said. What didn't it mean by mana type and monsters? If Cinder can help me grow and do the other things the blue box said...' As I look at Cinder. "Ok, I will have this bond" as I said that another blue box appeared with a ding.

Will-o'-wisp Cinder wishes to make a bond with you. Do you want to make this bond?

Waring!

With you make this bond you will be unable to harm will-o'-wisp Cinder and breaking this bond will cause damage.

Do you still wish to form this bond?

Yes / No

'What does it mean by damage?' but I still I focus on the word yes as the blue box disappears and is replaced by a new one?

"Okey now that we got that over with, let's go over the basics before your Keeper shows up" Cinder started saying as she bobs around my core. "So let's start by Summoning your guardian.

"What is a guardian?"

------------------

I stretch, hearing and feeling the clicking of my back as I get out of my sleeping roll looking around the Bone Woods, and still get the creeps when looking at the bone trees. Unlike most trees, the bone trees have a hard pale bone bark with red veins running up the tree with crimson leaves. It's so unnatural and I normally wouldn't be here but I need some money and there are supposed to be some valuable plants in the forest.

"Okay focus Aurora, I need the money and then I can be out of this damn place," I say to myself, knowing full well I have been alone for too long, especially well being in this forest.

I start packing up my campsite making sure there was nothing left of my presence as hear a sound.

"Past the halfway point to my next level, nice," I mutter to myself as I start to move through this place looking for anything that may be of value. As I start moving deeper into the forest I notice that the dawn's light becomes a blood red as the light streams through the crimson leaves of the bone trees giving the place the look and feel of a bloody battle with a blood mage.

As I was looking at the leaves, lost in thought, I almost didn't notice the creature that was hiding in a small hole by one of the bigger bone trees. As I spun to look at it, it sprung from its hole, bone white fangs bared. I spun my staff to block it and use Identify on the creature, as I feel a bit of my mana drop.

Name: Red Glow Fox

Level: 5

Health: 50 / 48  Mana: 20 / 20  Stamina: 100 / 82

Red Glow Foxes are creature native to the Bone Woods. They are know for their ability to have their fur to blend in with the red light of the Bone Woods, as well to be ambush predators.

"Well, this is good," I say with a grin as I look at the fox. It has an almost translucent red fur which has a slight glow to it that matches the light around it and with smoky grey eyes and teeth that look like bones. But none of that matters, as these little foxes' fur sells for a bit so I stare greedily at it.

As I make eye contact with the fox, even though it was a higher level than me, it started backing away, growling at me. "Oh no, you are not getting away from me, my furry friend." I said as I lung forward, swinging my staff at it, not willing to let my money go that easily.

Seeing that it couldn't escape, it tried to dodge the swing and bite at my leg. But the fun thing about a staff is that you can block and attack with any part of the weapon. So as I swing the staff down, nocking the fox's jaw out of the way I hear a snap of bone as the bone and wood connect. Hearing it whining is unpleasant as I was hoping to kill it in one strike so it wouldn't feel the pain, but that's the way of the world. As it tried again to escape I moved quickly and struck again, this time killing it.

As I look down at the fox, its head was caved in by the two strikes. Before I could get to work and skin it, the ding of a notification pops up.

Ding

Congratulation!

You have kill 1 Red Glow Fox.

Because you have kill a creature higher level you earn more exp.

You have eared 467 exp.

"Not bad for such an easy fight" I observed as I start getting to work on skinning the fox. This is going to be a good day I decided as I finished skinning the fox and make my way deep into the forest.

After about 2 hours of finding useful plants and hunting Red Glow Fox I found what I was looking for: a Bone Rose. It had a bleach-white stem with yellow petals that were very similar to old bones. "No wonder people call this a Bone Rose. This is going better than I could have ever expended. I should come back here even if this place looks creepy."

As I start making my way to my prize, two things happen at once; the first being a large black pillar as dark as the starless night with gray smoke wrapped around it. The second thing is a burning pain in my back, as I see a flash of claws and black fur. I fall into the pillar, it being the last thing I see.
